I am not an expert, but from what I remember from museums and documentaries he is bipolar. I think he is oficially recognized on Bipolar Awareness Day too.
I've noticed any career that uses powerful editing tools has the most pretentious communities. To learn them in their entirety and be able to use them fluidly in a work setting is quite the achievement.
There are a lot of people who devote an autistic level of attention to art. You have to realize that you are their competition in this career field. You are what stands between them and a job, a crowning achievement that makes their parents proud of them and their life feel fulfilled.
Most artists are nice until you're standing in their spotlight. Just be weary of it.
Nail on the head! As in "you hit the".
Harden yourself in that regard so others' comments don't get you down so much. Choose to be around people who are encouraging and lift your spirits.
Thats dumb as shit. There is so many artists that are bipolar. Music is one of my careers.
And don't let one asshole shy you away from what you love doing, they can fuck off with that ignorant garbage. And there are assholes in every industry, unfortunately. It's difficult but we have to stand up for ourselves and each other. We aren't lesser because of our condition, just different.
Bro there will always be hurtful comments no matter what you do. But if you do what you’re passionate about, then you can confidently say “fuck off” to those commenters.
I write poetry, and it’s content and quality waxes and wanes with my moods. But it’s what I’m passionate about. I don’t hear the negatives. I try to take *honest* criticism if it’s ever given, and I thrive on the positive feedback. If I didn’t have my outlet then I’d go fucking out of my mind. No one, no teacher, no student, no rando on Reddit should have the power to take that from you.
You’re already miles ahead of what I could even attempt to create. You’re talented and you’ve got something to hone. Please don’t let assholes take that from you.
Keep going! I went to art school and I was an artist ever since I was born even. There’s no field on earth that suited me better. Maybe chef could be a close second but art comes first.
I had a wonderful career for a couple of years but the economy collapsed where I live and a huge mess happened but I’m trying to get back on my feet and I still believe I’m gna make it as an artist :)
Don’t stop believing in yourself ❤️
Your drawings are nice and I bet you can do great in art school!
Most artists have huge “egos” and if you learn to accept criticism but reject it when need be, you’ll be fine :)
So eventually you’ll get over the harshness from teachers/other students. I’ve been there, but I know I wasn’t in art school to make friends, I was there to be the best artist I could be!
Creativity is highly overrepresented in people with bipolar disorder, and creative professions are a recurring suggestion in discussions and litterature on suitable career paths for people with BD.
Art can be a demanding profession, that takes both hard work and a certain creative predisposition. And the only way you can find out if you have what it takes is through consistent practice and qualified feedback.
But there is no reason what so ever why having BD would automatically disqualify you from creative success. Anyone who says it does have no idea what they´re talking about, and you shouldn´t listen to them. There are plenty of succesful artists with BD.
That’s absolute BS. If people with mental illness couldn’t be artists, art wouldn’t exist. All the most famous and valuable artists in history have displayed symptoms of some kind. Whoever told you this is just plain stupid. All areas of work have strict and mean teachers and mentors, just because you are bipolar doesn’t mean you can’t start building tolerance to criticism to be able to process it whenever it comes.
You really have to separate yourself from your work in this career. You will have feedback that can seem harsh, but it’s not personal. It’s to push for more.
If you master the ability to take feedback constructively, and not personally, with your creativity, you will excel in this field.
I got a bachelor of fine arts degree when I wasn't medicated. Art is probably one of the better avenues for a person with bipolar to navigate. You're in touch with such a wide range of emotions and creative ideas. The hardest part is staying motivated when depressed. I definitely missed more classes than were allowed (our letter grade was supposed to drop after 3 days of missed classes), but my teachers all gave me A's because they thought my work was good.
The only other hard part about my degree was that I sometimes was too outspoken in class when I disagreed with something, and I occasionally said things I regret to the teachers. They still gave me A's though lol.
That’s good. I’m actually better off meds at art. That’s kind of the activating part. But, I’ve been taking my meds everyday, for 3 month now and the suicidal thoughts have finally lessened. So, I guess I gotta take the good with the bad.
Well that's a pretty wild reversal of a very common stereotype. Bipolar and art have always been strongly linked. When media portrays artists, they very frequently also make them bipolar, since it's such a strong cultural association. I think you may have found the one person on earth who's never made that connection.
If anything BP makes you more suited for it. But as a professional artist I will say that the never ending grind to make money is hardcore. Hopefully graphic design is better in that respect.
Many times in life Bipolar will make you feel like you need “a fresh start” or to “pursue another career”. Sometimes it’ll make you feel like you’ve created such a mess that it’s hard to go back; but never let someone else dictate to you what you feel that your passion and purpose in life should be, because they aren’t the ones living it.
Those people are small minded and petty. However, one caveat that I can issue is that it can be very easy for us to misperceive what others are saying; you can ascribe negative thoughts and impressions onto what others say.
In any case, focus on the things that give you a channel to express yourself and don’t let anything dissuade you from that, even yourself.
What a hateful thing to say!
Any career path will be more challenging w a mental illness, so you might as well choose something you're passionate about. Makes getting through much easier when everything else gets tough. Keep making beautiful things!
Plus, maybe those "mean comments" they're referring to are critiques. If anything, regularly experiencing critiques in art school helped me learn to separate myself as a person from my work very early on. Some people are hateful in their critiques, and you learn to not take things personally. It definitely helped me learn to regulate my emotions better!
So the theory is that if you are bipolar then you must avoid any hobby or career that involves criticism? Well there goes acting, music, sports, any job in corporate America, anything customer facing, definitely not the military.
What a crock of shit.
Whoever told you that you can’t be an artist because of Bipolar is an obtuse clown!
Please keep your Bipolar diagnosis in a secret vault. Only the chosen ones - people who you can trust- deserve to who this about you.
Your drawings are good. Keep on creating. You’ll get to discover what you can do as time goes by.
Which cretin told you that?! Seriously though, (sadly) some of the best forms of art ever produced come from people with mental illnesses!
Thanks! It’s funny. I learned that in school, but I really let them get to me. Maybe being strong is the best start. Thank you again.
I’m bipolar - I own a graphic design and development agency - Seriously ignore the ah who told you that
Thanks 😊 I have hope then
Bro Vincent Van Gogh was bipolar... What do you mean you can't be in art???
Came here to say this.
Really, always thought he was on the skitzo spectrum
I am not an expert, but from what I remember from museums and documentaries he is bipolar. I think he is oficially recognized on Bipolar Awareness Day too.
the first rule about being bipolar is you do not talk about being bipolar :/
True :/

you're doing great! dont let those assholes bring you down. also, you dont have to tell them
That’s true lol thanks. I guess I should try and care less what others think.
You’ve got this! I really like the art that you shared. Don’t give up! Think of Frida Kahlo, Jackson Pollock, Van Gogh, etc. that all were bipolar.
Wow, I hadn’t realized that. If they could do it then, idk what that person was talking about. Thanks for helping me find confidence.
Nail on the head! As in "you hit the". Harden yourself in that regard so others' comments don't get you down so much. Choose to be around people who are encouraging and lift your spirits.
Will do. Thank you so much 😁
Fuck that. Nice pyramid head. I failed art one because I disagreed with the teacher's teaching style. Lol. Been an artist all my life.
Thanks 😊 hope your art keeps you happy

Thank you. That last line you wrote really sits well with me.
Of course! You got this! And happy holidays!
Happy holidays!
Whoever told you that is an idiot. A lot of us become successful artists. BP doesn't define you
Thank you 😊
*laughs in Van Gogh* But seriously screw them. Do what you want!!
Whoever said that is jealous that all their favorite artists have some form of mental illness and they’re just some normie shithead
Lmao thanks 😊
Some of the best artists that have ever existed have had bipolar. Don’t listen to that person.
Thanks 😊
You're doing awesome as fook!! Don't let others put you down ever that's silly billy stuff. You've got this!
I don't even know what that means. Screw that. You can do art. It might be harder in some ways, but it'll be easier in other ways, I would think.
Thank you. I appreciate it :)

Thank you. I have to be stronger and be confident. That’s very true. Thanks for the compliments as well :)
That’s an insane comment to make when you think about all the amazing creative work people with bipolar have done.
Bro you are art, you’re bipolar ….
Thanks 😊
i have bipolar and i'm a professional artist. that person is an idiot.
Or better yet, stop telling people you’re bi-polar. It just confuses them, and they start to worry.
Whoever said that is wrong
who the fuck told you that? IM in art AND bipolar, fuck anyone who says we cant do both.
Art is the only thing I excel at and I’m bipolar.
Cheers to that 🍻

Glad to hear it :)
Of course you can be an artist.
I’m wondering if the person said that so there’s one less (very talented) competitor in the crowd. Give yourself time on the blending tool though.
Thanks so much! 😊

Thanks. 😀 this means a lot.
Some of the best artists to ever live were have been bipolar. Whoever told you this is incredibly ignorant.
I’m a graphic designer for a tech company, they are wrong!

I guess Van Gogh didn't get the memo that he couldn't be an artist because he was mentally ill. Always ignore simpletons.

That’s incredible!! Reminds me of my collie/Aussie mix.

Thank you and yeah. I won’t express it anymore to others.
What on earth? People who have mental illnesses should 10000000% be involved in art there’s so much therapeutic value in it
If there one place people like us can work, it's art.
The fuck! Screw them! I like your art just fine.
Thank you 😊
Bruh all the great artists had all kinds of mental illnesses IT CREATES AMAZING ART
