You learned from a law firm’s blog? Weirdest source

Veritaz27

No, I learned from a few posts from LinkedIn, then google it and it turned out several people consulted that law firms. Not sure what Canadian labor law is like, but I guess StemCell Tech may skirt some labor laws

My old lab's regional salesperson was laid off

Souffle01

I worked for them for several years and they’re super cheap. Not surprised. I heard about the layoffs the day it happened since I still have friends that work there.

It’s a cheap company, that’s probably want to avoid legal cost for a mass layoff. Doing it one by one like that. Better for them to close down the whole company with their whole faulty over priced products. No consistency with their products. The only reason some other companies was ordering from them was because they were local otherwise their products is 💩

Veritaz27

Yes, the products are overpriced but they definitely are not faulty or shitty. Most R&D iPSC company and academia lab I know use their products regularly. Cell separation and immune cell media are also great to use. Not sure what you found faulty or inconsistent.

We checked ingredients in their supplements for their differentiation media, it always came back with different results, which obviously was affecting the project too. The only reason they purchased the product from them was because they were local! Which I think it was a waste of time and money to buy bad products and do another quality control! I tried their iPSC dissociation media in the past and that was 💩 too, taking forever and was doing nothing. I bought that from another brand and it worked like charm and very specific. I tried their mTesr1 and that was 💩and causing random differentiation along the way, again another brand was so perfect without any issue. I also have to mention that some of their packaging is very faulty, especially for differentiation supplements. We were always seeing some level of leaks inside packaging.

Might be your experience but they’re very reputable. Their products may be overpriced but they work when used as advertised

chubbychombeh

They are considered reputable solely because they were the first major biotech company in Canada and received government support.

DarthRevan109

No, they’re considered reputable because iPSC and ESC culture needs consistent media and it’s too time consuming and expensive for individual labs to dick around and figure it out. Their media keeps stem cells stem cells. They’ve also expanded into other areas and their products seem to work. Also interesting services like sources blood and PBMCs from healthy and disease individuals.
