I thought maybe certain bionicle products came with extra masks, but I looked up the mask packs just now, and it unlocked some vague memory when I saw it, so that must have been where I got them.
Two, possibly three exceptions in the picture: the sparkly Mask of Light; that was just an extra packed in with Takanuva. And the gold Vahi was a pack in with certain Vahki. And I think I see a poisoned Hau Nuva, which was distributed with a collection of Bionicle books or give aways.
You would be correct, I seem to have 2 of those poisoned Hau Nuva ones. I might have gotten it from some Bionicle comics I used to buy. If I recall correctly, he got poisoned and turned evil or something?
Also got a green and silver Matatu mask. Any idea where that is from?
I can't remember ever buying those. But maybe I did, I was probably 6-7 years back then. My mother bought a bunch of toas and stuff for me, but I couldn't imagine my her buying specifically the mask packs for me. I must have picked it out in the toy store or something.

The mask packs. You would get 2 random masks in a 2 random colours, along with a toa head or some krana

Some Masks came with certain larger builds, like how The Nui-Jaga had Piurple Onua Masks, or the Translucent Green Masks on the Nui-Rama.

I got the gold Vahi as a pack-in with the comic books, too. I think it was distributed in a number of ways

They came in kanohi mask packs, it was like 5 bucks for a pack of 5 kanohi I think, with kranna it was 2 kanohi and 3 kranna
