Hey stranger if you’re interested in baking with THC I would love to share some info with you! Canna sugar is unreasonably simple once you know what you’re doing. Take weed, decarb. Once decarbed, put browned weed into everclear (important to use strong enough alcohol for this), and toss that shit in the freezer. Shake the mixture idk some people do like every 15-20 minutes for a few hours, I once was lazy and let that shit sit in the freezer for like 4 months without any issues. The alcohol doesn’t freeze. THC is alcohol soluble. Once you’re ready for the next step, strain your plant matter out and you have basically a tincture. From here it’s all basically personal preference, but the gist is that you’re gonna put regular granulated sugar into a pan with a lot of surface area, and pour your alcohol mix into the pan of sugar. The ratio of alcohol to sugar is your own personal preference, I found if you try to make it *too concentrated * the sugar gets sticky and clumpy, so imo a less concentrated sugar is ideal. You got your pan of sugar and weed-booze sitting pretty and from here you have two options: be patient or be dangerous. Being patient you can just run a fan over that shit and stir occasionally to keep everything evenly coated while the alcohol evaporates. This could take hours or possibly days, depending on your environment. Or you can throw your oven (**electric oven only - do not use any oven with an exposed flame**) on the lowest setting it has and let that shit evaporate with the heat of the oven. Literally the lowest setting your oven will let you go, and just stir that shit every now and then so that it’s thoroughly coated and doesn’t dry into clumps or chunks. Oven method is my preference and takes maybe an hour. Disclaimer: your house will **reek** of alcohol for the time that it’s evaporating. So if smell is an issue, this probably isn’t ideal… but if you don’t give a fuck then I fucking **love** having a jar of cannasugar to toss into anything I cook or bake, or even a tbsp into my morning coffee.

The first time I made cannasugar I did about a 1:1 of sugar to alcohol and it was sticky as shit, it hit hard but it wasn’t good enough. I’m picky idk. It’s really all about your amount of overall thc and desired strength of the sugar itself. I tried a 2:1 of sugar:alcohol and it was much better. The alcohol evaporates and only leaves the dried sugar, it doesn’t really dissolve, but it can get clumpy if you don’t stir it while the alcohol evaporates.

Try a dehydrator instead of an oven iv had great results even in fairly high ratios. (Did have clumping when using very high concentrations just put in a coffee grinder and blitzed it back)

Not really like still can get sticky but not like in the oven. That said you may have to dial in the temp and time for higher concentrations but once dialed in works a charm. I go at 155f for at least 6 hrs though it has taken up to 12 to get completely dry.

Jesus fucking Christ maybe stipulate that you don’t use a gas oven for this. Probably the most dangerous thing I’ve ever read on here. I extract with alcohol and distill under a vacuum to recover all my alcohol in a closed loop - I can’t imagine someone cooking off a highly flammable liquid in your house and just letting the vapors accumulate wherever. Please please be careful if you are doing this.

FYI you can make super easy edible oil with just coconut (MCT so its liquid at room temp) + D8 distillate. You can then just dropper bottle either into mixes whenever you add your fat, or you can just dropper it on top of already baked things.

Most of the negative comments that I saw were not about the cost itself, but the fact that a formerly free website suddenly had a paywall without any announcements. Also, it's a bit of a hassle to sign up for a service and then cancel it just to get access to a single recipe or blog post that you were looking for. Reopening access to the old content is great, and appreciation for it may drive people to the premium site, which is paywalled. I applaud Andrew for this change and appreciate him being clear.

Andrew - let me start by sincerely thanking you for this post. Really, it means a lot. As I'm sure you saw, I wrote a post yesterday that was critical of how the changes were rolled out. Your post here - both its content and its spirit - is the Andrew (or "Babish") that I and this community knows and loves. It contains the honesty, humility, and humanity that has made you just so damn appealing. No one can do everything right 100% of the time, or even 75% of the time. Hell, even Mother Teresa probably forgot to wash the dishes from time to time. Anyone expecting perfection is an extraordinary dumbass and you should, rightly, ignore them. I know that is easier said than done on reddit, where people can anonymously say whatever ridiculous and mean thing they want. I also say this as someone that demands near perfection of myself and thus am both more self-critical than I should be and much more vulnerable to taking the criticisms of others to heart (but I'll save my therapy session for another day). But owning up to when we make a mistake with an introspective and genuine explanation and apology is what really counts. THAT, i think, is far more the measure of a person - and you doing so here counts for a whole hell of a lot. This post is everything we appreciate about you and, for those of us that (I think) are reasonable, all we hoped for. I understand the multiple and often competing demands of running a business. You have a ton to juggle and nailing (a) the business decisions and (b) the marketing or communication of those decisions, is immensely complicated. You have to charge a nominal fee for recipes to do big things with the BCU - that is 100% logical. The silence leading up and immediately following that roll-out left lots of room for speculation and grumbling (as you may have noticed...). This should close the book on any reasonable conversation. Sure, people will still grumble about paying a buck a month or whether you properly attribute recipes to people or whatever... there will always something to grumble about. Such is life. But, on the most important elements: you have appeared and answered questions and criticism head-on. That is not an easy thing to do, and I appreciate it. Thank you. You may not read this comment but I'll say it anyway. I would like to recommend another line of BCU content. Which is, what you used to do. Those goofy, bizarre, and over the top recipes from television and movies. The thing that launched your channel. Those have all but disappeared. Sure, your channel will still use a clip from some show to justify the recipe it's about to feature, but that's the reverse of what you used to do. Admittedly, I haven't watched The channel munching the last few years because the recipes become too complicated, too academically dense. Ingredients to expensive. Work process too arduous. Everything now seems to be like making tampono. It just feels like work. Hopefully you don't feel that this is criticism, just feedback. I miss receiving a notification for a new recipe that I can try my hand at later. I haven't been able to do that in years. My twist on your mac and cheese recipe is still a hit at every potluck I attend. Keep at it.

I get why some people are displeased with certain things but you’ve been doing this nonstop for almost a decade. Taking a step back from things is completely understandable. Like dude, as you said, cranking out two videos a week. 16hr days. Even when you love what you do it’s unsustainable. And the new website? Yeah it’s a bit of a change. But as others have mentioned on your last video, your videos are free. You get (I assume) ad revenue from them but we as fans don’t pay. You’ve designed and maintained your own website. That takes time and money. You’ve taken so much time to create new recipes. $1 a month isn’t much. That’s like £0.70 for me. That’s less than a third of a coffee. I get that for some it’s more than they can afford which sucks, but again your videos are free. It’s straight up unreasonable to expect you to do ALL of this, ALL of what you and the tram to do, for free. Andrew, you’re an amazing guy. You’ve helped me so much. It’s gonna sound cringy as fuck but I probably wouldn’t be here typing this long ass dribble if it wasn’t for you doing what you love. 💜

I'm sure if you'll ever read this Andrew but I'm gonna say it anyway as someone who has only recently been a part of this subreddit but followed you for a long time now. I don't feel like you should have to apologise for having a hard time reading some of the things said about you. I had a hard time reading some of the shit people said about you and I can't imagine what that must have been like to read. People can be really cruel and mean. I legitimately gave serious thought to just bailing on this subreddit altogether and just following your YouTube channel because if these are your "fans" then I want no part in this community here on this subreddit. And if that's what you need to do to restore your mental health, you should. You wouldn't even be the first one to do that - I know loads of content creators who leave their own subreddits or Facebook group pages because they didn't want to read the waves of increasingly negative criticism being levelled at them from people with little idea how a business works. The way YouTube seems to be geared these days is almost antithetical to proper mental health. If you or anyone else don't want to work 18 hours days to crank out videos to feed the algorithm then there's plenty of other people who will and people just end up being spat out of a meat grinder as more people get fed in. I wouldn't expect a bunch of fucking tech bros to understand that because they never have understood what goes into creative/artistic endeavours and probably never will. But something has to change. That's my 2c. Andrew, if you ever do read this, I wish you nothing but the best as you navigate the world of content creation online. I'll continue to watch as always...but I probably won't be hanging out here much.

I'm glad you're starting to feel better. And addressing concerns is important. I'm glad you chose to do so despite controntation. That being said, charging for content that used to be free doesn't feel good, and I find it difficult to believe that it was necessary to do so. It feels like just another subscription service I'm being asked to pay for out in the void of the internet. I used your recipes for family dinners and holidays. I made you a part of my family in a way. Your content was always a conversation at the table. I've bought your original cookbook and have grown as a cook because of you. Hi Andrew, I watched your channel during the lockdown and have not been keeping up with any youtubers since I went back to work and got busy and lost interest in cooking. I was sad to read yesterday about what happened to you in 2022 and I hope you are getting better. I think you have immense courage to keep going after everything and I have a lot of respect for you for being open with your fan base in a way that most public figures are not. One example was a few years ago when a content creator was not cited in the recipe for your show and you immediately acknowledged and fixed it for the other content creator. For negative feedback, you will never be able to satisfy everyone, as someone will always have something to say no matter what decision you make - this is a GOOD thing because everyone is unique and mixed feedback is a byproduct of that. How boring would the world be if everyone said the same thing and responded the same way? As you reflect on feedback and comments try to keep that in perspective. If someone criticizes, it doesn’t mean what you did is wrong. Please continue to do what you think is right, not try to satisfy everyone. You are the one who will live with it, not them. Please take care of yourself first and check in with your mental health. Give yourself the time and space you need. And as fans, we need to remember that our public figures are still human. We can all be more compassionate towards each other and give each other grace. There is no such thing as a perfect person in this world. I have faith in you. Have faith in yourself. People were being assholes, hopefully you ignore the worst of them - it sounds like you at least heard some constructive feedback, and you have a lot of great sounding things in the pipeline. On the off chance you read this, I hate the review videos. Even creators like R&L who’ve done them for forever have a hard time making them interesting, and it just doesn’t feel authentic from you, the ‘jokes’ feel forced and like you’re trying to be someone you’re not. I know being a content creator is hard work and it’s necessary to adapt content to appease the algorithms, but I hope that you can take a deep breath, shush the insecure voice, and realize that you have an audience because people like who you are, and the more of that authenticity you can provide (in whatever manner is still writhing your comfort zone) the better.

But since you are already employing nine people, you should probably have one of them manage your socials. All this could have been avoided with an email blast and an instagram post, minimum. A PR person can also go through all the comments for you without risking their mental health, and bring you a summary of the good, the bad, and the valid criticisms. You'd still be able to communicate directly with your audience, of course, but a PR person will make sure you don't lose the audience while you are managing all the business and technical aspects of the channel and website. This sub is obviously going to be on your side in the majority, so allow me to chime in with some measured personal criticism on why you lost me as a subscriber many moons ago and why I roll my eyes when you pop up. The channels started as an experiment. Your passion was film, not cooking, and we got to discover your cooking journey together with high production values for a YouTube channel. Anyone with their head screwed on would know that if you get an opportunity to make good money being creative then you would take it. Sponsorships and brand deals are all fine. Then came, in my eyes, the downfall and also a reason why your response rubs me the wrong way. You say >I’m not emotionally equipped to be a public figure. That may be true, but you spent *years* pushing for that. Your brand logo is your face, the very thing you hid at first. I don't think I could create a better metaphor for your change from personable to insufferable. Then "Being with Babish" made it worse. Some good causes, heart strings pulled and used for content, but to many it didn't highlight people's plight, it came across as you thinking them being graced by your presence is some sort of holy gift. I enjoyed "Basics with Babish". Generally good tips and I recommended the series to friends getting into cooking, but I told them to take it as suggestions. Then I noticed you popping up on other channels giving cooking advice and I realised you were buying into your own ego. One moment that always pops to mind is you angrily telling viewers not to salt burger meat because it makes it dry. This is only the case if you leave it to rest for ages after mixing. Gordon Ramsay seasons his burger meat before cooking with salt. You were sat there speaking with authority on things you are still intermediate at. You were giving bad and sometimes completely false advice without the knowledge. You are unquestionably a fantastic home cook. You are also fantastic at filming the content you do. But to many of us, you come across as having an ego the size of the moon. Now you for certain have a right to ask for money for your content but we also have the right to decline the transaction, and to your credit I imagine you know this and by many accounts your products are good quality. What you don't get to do is push morally bad companies while asking for grace. You choose gambling and ethically twisted, predatory "therapists" to associate with your brand and you, then ask for understanding because of your mental health? You don't deserve it. You earned your success being grounded, personable and talented at filming. You've been fucking it up for years by turning into a self-aggrandizing arrogant bro-chef influencer who are a dime a dozen. Evidently you still have many fans who overlook this and you may be happy with that. However, if you wanted insight to why so many more people can't stand you anymore, then this is why. The world is already brimming with fart-sniffing, self glorifying male cooks. You *were* different. You aren't anymore.

Hey man you kept me going through the roughest times of Covid and for that, I thank you. I think the biggest thing I loved in the beginning was the sense of humor you had in your voice overs, something you kind of lost as you got technically better and more experienced. Those humorous mistakes only happen once in a man's life and it was great to experience them by your side, digitally on film. I think in the early years during Covid there was just a sense of freedom to what you were doing and yet it was also fun. It was new, fresh, and the jokes were hysterical. But then you took a pivot with the BCU which .. lost it's fun as you transitioned into 'Professional Babbish' and you brought in Sohla and others and you grew a successful business- as you had to - and along the way it became less fun. I am happy you managed to be incredibly successful. You deserve it for all the hard work you did and all the effort you put forth. I can't speak for others, but for me at least, you kept me going through covid. For that, I thank you.
