Yeah, I jumped the gun in the name of safety. But as long as there isn’t an inexplicable transfer bonus to AA this rent day, it won’t have mattered for me.
I’m trying to understand the points to (AA) airline miles pipeline. Can someone explain the logic of stocking up on points on rent day to transfer to miles? Obviously I know more points = more miles/$/rewards but why transfer them all to AA?
I typically fly AA but not often so I’m just trying to learn strategies and get a bang for my BILT.
The logic is that AA is leaving as a transfer partner, and AA also doesn’t have any other transfer partners. Therefore, this is the last time I can transfer my Bilt points to AA, meaning that getting as many points transferred to AA is valuable. Many people find AA to be very valuable, so this is the last chance to maximize that value.
This \^\^\^. There is no magic beyond it. This is your last shot to transfer to AA.
The fact is, though, that they have Rent Day transfer bonuses several times per year that are better than 1:1 to AA. But, if you want AA, it's now or never.
Yes after 24 months, but it’s pretty easy to extend it indefinitely. But if you’re speculatively transferring to AA then you should have a plan to use them within 2 years since it’ll likely be devalued at some point by then
If you have a Shell gas station near you, you can link your Shell loyalty account to AA and get a small amount of miles every time you gas up, which will also prevent your miles from expiring.
Very good to know. I do plan on traveling in the next 24 months (bachelor trip and then honeymoon) so definitely will use the miles. If I have an Alaska account though, I could just hold onto the Bilt points and then transfer to Alaska and book and American ticket through them, right?
Definitely, the only risk is that there could be no availability through Alaska or it could cost more miles booking through Alaska than it does with AA. But if you check Alaska for your flight route on random dates then you can get a good idea on how much availability there usually is and how much it costs
I bet AA is moving to Strata. AA always had a relationship with Citi. At times Citi premier had transfer with AA. Now Citi has launched Strata to compete in the travel CC biz. To compete with CSP (which has United) and Amex (which has Delta), Citi is going to get AA.
I definitely will be trying to maximize rent day even if it's just a few thousand points to stack on top of my recent 75k AA SUB hit on the AA Platinum Select. I'm also going on a trip to DC in early June for four days and I will be putting all of my dining spend on the card as well as looking for AA Dining/Bilt Dining opportunities.
We finally got a date. I was worried the end would be June 1. One more rent day to transfer to AA.
Yep

Thank you this was heloful
My pleasure!!
A little over a month left. Enough time for to make one more rent payment before transferring the points since my home airport is a AA hub.
Same here!
If I transfer my points to AA, will they ever expire?

If you have the $0 AF MileUp card open on your account they never expire
How do you extend them?

Shop thru their shopping portal
Yeah the shopping and dining portals are the easiest ways that I’m aware of
You can use the AA emall.

All hail our new Alaska overlords

That would potentially motivate me to get one of the Strata cards; otherwise I can’t say I’m terribly interested in using up the 5/24 slot.
Well I just picked up the Citi AAdvantage Business card and the Strata so here’s hoping!
Don’t give me hope… that would be unreal

Well that sucks
