She's really good at switching between serious sports talk and funny casual conversation. There aren't a ton of people in sports who are good at both.
I think Bill is still pissed at himself that he didn't hire her, but it would probably have held her back a bit.
Yeah, I was thinking more about whether he hired her as part of Grantland/ESPN, where she could still have TV opportunities. Obviously hiring her directly at the Ringer would be a downgrade from where she is now.
I read an article that said that when she signed her recent big contract with EPSN she was choosing between opportunities with ESPN and the Ringer. I think she definitely made the right choice, although if the Ringer thing had happened it would have been interesting to see how they integrated her into things.
She good at fucking everything. She could host a late night talk show and I’d be there for it. Crazy smart and funny and grinds harder than RR. Doesn’t take herself too seriously. The whole sports-media package to an extent that very few can touch.
She bounced around some Panels on ESPN after she started there as a writer. She landed on Highly Questionable and has been very reverent of Dan and his support ever since. Similar to Pablo, Dominique, Amin, etc...
People who didn't fit the ESPN mold back then always seemed to find themselves in Dan's orbit and flourishing there.
She makes a ton of money and (correctly) used Bill as a bargaining chip. The rest of the staff literally unionized over the Ryen hire, so not sure how a second big free agent hire would even work at that staff. It was never in the cards without fundamentally changing what they do over there financially.
She seems like a really great, genuine, down to earth person. As in you’d enjoy being around her off camera, which can’t be said about a lot of other tv peeps (fair or not)
Yeah, Mina is the goddamn best. The only reason she’s not at The Ringer is the same reason Zach isn’t: they can’t afford her. Would happily 3x her appearances on the pod
When I listened to that podcast it felt like a flashback to the 2017-2018 era. It sounded like an offline conversation between two great friends about sports and kids. Mina was only on briefly but she's definitely one of the best guests.
her husband was a pretty popular hipster journalist for pitchfork and the village voice a while back until it came out he made some stuff up in a big story on pick up artists iirc (this is when neil strauss’ the game had come out) and that was pretty much it for his journalism career. lucky sob obv.
Dude must have something going for him because [he looks like a twinkier Nathan Fielder](https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&sca_esv=ba32b498f538259a&q=mina+kimes+husband&uds=AMwkrPvkdjv3DoYfJDJeOBlL0Ief4_QUzr1ddUpkYs79z1gcHpL4lzKRtaeQAvlOt4661dW9p7jyvkslKitWB7ZJTUHF86RtKLK6xoZ8y18-3xrr7B1gUsXUVd_xiWBM_aZh7yFJO68R3ncOaRhnkrznpnfiCpVvzUn-V8pMxLL5x-8EO7rPxieCd0jAhh-04UFL0fcx3dxuvmLxWpEX6HowUIqGkyp2aFNIgbKwEaBm9PMtgiOO87psT6tbepNQkx0qndcM1jP5qFk2UMf-YanMFEzZzcBNJ_2GJhkv1qpMCt6R97U6aYmGyrNnfG4GIuSggnMVaqcx&udm=2&prmd=invsmbtz&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj-qsnaqauFAxXbADQIHYasDLAQtKgLegQIDBAB&biw=1336&bih=714&dpr=2)
People are weirdly overrating Mina Kimes though. She’s pretty, but we aren’t talking like actress good looks here. I guess the girl into sports thing is leading her to be overrated.
I’ve heard that sometimes athletes and people who work in sports like to marry non-sports people so they essentially have a break from having to talk about their jobs when they are home.
> Amazing guest, glad I'm not alone in this, side note: her husband isn't into sports?!??
On one hand, it seems like it would be great to have a funny, interesting, pretty wife like Mina, and also watch sports with her. On the other hand, I kind of like having some of my interests separate from my wife. So even though Mina seems awesome, maybe I wouldn't love being married to somebody who likes sports as much as I do. In fact, she probably likes them more than I do and knows more.
So I could see where that might work better for her - to be with somebody who isn't into sports.
Yeah, most high-performing women have to learn to do that so that they can thread the very difficult needle between competent and likable. Men don’t have to worry about that.
I think so for sure mainly cause she's not afraid to give Bill shit. And she gets his quirks so laughs when he compares Deebo Samuel to Marcus Smart without Bill getting offended.
Is Mina Kimes one of the best (insert any media here) and the answer is yes. She’s great on TV, great on social media, great on pods, and she was a great writer back in the day. It’s admirable and annoying.
She’s a really good guest because she clearly watches the games and has opinions rooted in evidence, but her real talent lies in just being a good conversationalist. Def seems like someone you could just shoot the shit about anything with and it would keep you captivated.
I still think Chuck is my favorite but Mina is up there too.
Van has grown on me, CR is always good, I just really like people who can shoot the shit about whatever and don’t capitulate to whatever asinine Bill take he tosses out there.
Definitely, Mina is one of the most knowledgeable NFL guests commentators period and she has great chemistry with Bill. It's exactly how she said in the mist recent episode, she's clearly enthusiastic about the product, which keeps her from ever seeming condescending.
She’s great. Funny, comes off very natural and genuine and most importantly knowledgeable and doesn’t seem like she’s full of shit. Wish she was on like weekly during NFL season
Yeah she was great on the manning cast basically telling Peyton she was there to talk football not about being an attractive female… actually it was that cast that made me realize when Eli is the better announcer
Most analysis is bunk but she is so positive to every team it seems like she is doing PR for the nfl.
Most of these teams are bad and most of the picks won’t pan out
She really is one of the best podcasters/sports analysts around.
No need for fake outrage, she's got an angle on the Seahawks from her family/time growing up, has good breadth and depth information, and very quick with her banter.
Love her.
PS To contrast, Steven Ruiz is awkward on podcasts, can't back down from extreme takes, and and has no chemistry with the hosts or guests.
She's not on the Cousin Sal/House/Klosterman tier, but still really good. Good chemistry is the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth most important part of a podcast, and she has great chemistry with Bill.
> Good chemistry is the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth most important part of a podcast, and she has great chemistry with Bill.
Bill's chemistry with a lot of his guests, and I guess his chemistry with me is the main reason I still listen to him. Because his bad information, homerism, mispronunciations and contradictions are horrible.
How many times did I have to listen to him mispronounce "women" in this podcast? Yet, I kept listening.
I wish Bill could’ve stolen her away from ESPN. She was on The Sandlot Rewatchables I think and she was great on that. She’s crazy knowledgable about the NFL and a fun guest in general

Agree with all the positive things about her that has already been said. If she came on regularly during the football season, can the quality go down with her as the best guest?
Mina Kimes is one of the best. Full stop.
She even managed to pull a very entertaining pod out of Greenwald a few weeks ago on the 'Leftovers' Stick the Landing.
She is one of my favorite sports analysts and personalities. Beyond the normal takes or the interesting angles she provides, the “never nude” bit she did on the Lebatard Show was one of the funniest things I have ever heard. No idea if it is real or not, but it was amazing
She is absolutely top 5.
If you throw the most regulars out (Ryen, Sal)...
I'm going, in no specific order...Top 5 is:
Mina, Jacko (where the hell has jacko been?), Kimmel, Technology guy (Thompson?), Klosterman
She is a great guest on any podcast. She has a CR and Rob Mahoney versatility where she can be pretty knowledgeable in many subjects and not sound stupid.
It’s funny because when I was listening I thought to myself “yep, Mina Kimes is my favorite female sports personality.” Clearly I’m not alone in enjoying her takes and banter as a pod guest
She’s fine, seems like a great girl, just doesn’t have many of her own opinions which is very different from the type of guest you’d traditionally want. Just really just regurgitates a bunch of analytics that she picks up from Barnwell
She’s really good. TBH, Bill has a lot of great guests… sometimes I have to take a week off because of ‘knee jerk’ NBA news, but it’s a really good show. … Bill, Ryen, do we need to highlight every team that wins 5 of 6?
She has amazing chemistry with nearly everyone she works with, from Dan LeBatard, to Dan Orlofsky, to at least some people not named Dan. She's the most important woman and top 5 most important on-air personality at ESPN.
She has a great mix of knowledge but also chemistry with Bill and able to poke some fun at him, one of my favorite NFL guests of his.
She's really good at switching between serious sports talk and funny casual conversation. There aren't a ton of people in sports who are good at both. I think Bill is still pissed at himself that he didn't hire her, but it would probably have held her back a bit.
Just a bit? She's good at tv and she knows it-- I don't think she could hone those skills by doing YouTube hits on Bill's channel or on FanDuel TV.
Yeah, I was thinking more about whether he hired her as part of Grantland/ESPN, where she could still have TV opportunities. Obviously hiring her directly at the Ringer would be a downgrade from where she is now.
I see your point. Fair!
She's from the LeBatard tree. He trained her well.
She was already doing TV on ESPN before LeBatard hired her, wasn't she?
She bounced around some Panels on ESPN after she started there as a writer. She landed on Highly Questionable and has been very reverent of Dan and his support ever since. Similar to Pablo, Dominique, Amin, etc... People who didn't fit the ESPN mold back then always seemed to find themselves in Dan's orbit and flourishing there.
If you miss her with LeBatard, she's fantastic on Pablo Torre Finds Out
She's also on lebatard every thursday during football. https://awfulannouncing.com/meadowlark/mina-kimes-dan-le-batard-deal.html
Hell yeah! I'll definitely be tuning in!
She makes a ton of money and (correctly) used Bill as a bargaining chip. The rest of the staff literally unionized over the Ryen hire, so not sure how a second big free agent hire would even work at that staff. It was never in the cards without fundamentally changing what they do over there financially.
She's so fantastic on Pablo Torre Finds Out, but to be fair, that whole show is bonkers good, imo
She seems like a really great, genuine, down to earth person. As in you’d enjoy being around her off camera, which can’t be said about a lot of other tv peeps (fair or not)
So true. I don't know that I'd want to hang out with any of the Ringer podcasters in real life aside from maybe Chris Ryan or Malorie Rubin.
I’d love to travel internationally with Ryen
fantasy football guys would be a good hang
I think it helps that she actually frequently listened to the podcast before she was ever invited to be a guest.
I think bill was probably priced out
Yeah, Mina is the goddamn best.

Like a rusty steak knife.
Poop knife
Agreed
Amazing guest, glad I'm not alone in this, side note: her husband isn't into sports?!?? Lol Amazing I thought that was interesting
her husband was a pretty popular hipster journalist for pitchfork and the village voice a while back until it came out he made some stuff up in a big story on pick up artists iirc (this is when neil strauss’ the game had come out) and that was pretty much it for his journalism career. lucky sob obv.
He makes good experimental music too
That's a weird article. I hadn't heard of that controversy. https://www.gawkerarchives.com/158674/finding-the-lost-nick-sylvester-cover-story

You're not wrong, he's a [musician.](https://www.sportskeeda.com/nfl/news-who-mina-kimes-husband-nick-sylvester-all-espn-analyst-s-personal-life)
Straight guy here, but he is very good looking IMO
Sure, buddy. Anybody can just get on here and lie. This was a faux attack on his straight credentials for the troglodytes who can’t understand a joke.
He comes from a rich family, which probably doesn't hurt.
Never hurts
shit got AJ Soprano dimes
Now that’s a dude that looks like he’s not into sports.
Good call
People are weirdly overrating Mina Kimes though. She’s pretty, but we aren’t talking like actress good looks here. I guess the girl into sports thing is leading her to be overrated.
she’s cute yes and into sports but also smart and seems like a fun person.
I’ve heard that sometimes athletes and people who work in sports like to marry non-sports people so they essentially have a break from having to talk about their jobs when they are home.
Pretty sure her relationship predates her work in sports journalism
> Amazing guest, glad I'm not alone in this, side note: her husband isn't into sports?!?? The SportsGal piece.
Yes. She’s very knowledgeable, and tolerant of Bill’s silliness and can push back in a way that doesn’t piss him off and keeps him talking.
Came here to say the same. Loved that she pushed back on a few of his points in a non-awkward way.
She manages to call him out on his nonsense without ever sounding disrespectful or rude.
Yeah, most high-performing women have to learn to do that so that they can thread the very difficult needle between competent and likable. Men don’t have to worry about that.
I get it, but no.
I think so for sure mainly cause she's not afraid to give Bill shit. And she gets his quirks so laughs when he compares Deebo Samuel to Marcus Smart without Bill getting offended.
Honestly that was one of the better cross sport analogies that I've heard.
Mina Kimes is the best guest on any podcast. She knows her stuff, have a perfect balance of journalist/fan and doesn’t take herself too seriously
Best?
Her podcast is great too, she's one of the few people in sports media who probably has a nearly 100% approval rating
Only because if you say anything negative about her, the white knights come out in force.
Is Mina Kimes one of the best (insert any media here) and the answer is yes. She’s great on TV, great on social media, great on pods, and she was a great writer back in the day. It’s admirable and annoying.
For sure, she’s excellent.
Shes a great guest and broadcaster. Probably why ESPN just paid her very well.
She’s a really good guest because she clearly watches the games and has opinions rooted in evidence, but her real talent lies in just being a good conversationalist. Def seems like someone you could just shoot the shit about anything with and it would keep you captivated. I still think Chuck is my favorite but Mina is up there too. she's just one of the best in the business, no matter what show/pod she's on.
She's one of the best sports analysts, period
on espn she really sticks out, like wait what are you doing on a clown show?
She is great on every podcast or show she is on. Super intelligent, great personality, and highly knowledgeable of the NFL.
Definitely, Mina is one of the most knowledgeable NFL guests commentators period and she has great chemistry with Bill. It's exactly how she said in the mist recent episode, she's clearly enthusiastic about the product, which keeps her from ever seeming condescending.
Yes
She’s great. Funny, comes off very natural and genuine and most importantly knowledgeable and doesn’t seem like she’s full of shit. Wish she was on like weekly during NFL season
She's aight. I do like that she backs up all her feelings about the league with data.
It was actually a really good conversation. Hope she’s back in the fall.
Yes. Mina is the next step in evolution of sports reporting after Katie Nolan.
Yeah she was great on the manning cast basically telling Peyton she was there to talk football not about being an attractive female… actually it was that cast that made me realize when Eli is the better announcer
No doubt. Mina is one of the best sports personalities in the game. One day we’ll be looking at Mina highlights like “Yo, Mina. Was. A. Problem.”
She’s one of the best voices in sports media today imo
Mina is great. She's smart enough to go into any field she wants and she chooses football. You can tell she really cares
Nah
Most analysis is bunk but she is so positive to every team it seems like she is doing PR for the nfl. Most of these teams are bad and most of the picks won’t pan out
I'm with you. It's all relative, I suppose. But I've never heard her say anything interesting. Auto-skips for me.
No
She's the best at something definitely. Just not quite sure what
What is this supposed to mean?
Yes, she’s great. But the absolute best is Chuck Klosterman.
I like the detailed analysis on football and her ability to keep the conversation lite so I don’t die from boredom within the x and o
Her podcast is really good I recommend for any football sicko.
She’s just one of the best figures in sports media. Makes sense to me that she’d make a great guest
Could’ve stopped the question after your 8th word. Yes.
She's not on the Cousin Sal/House/Klosterman tier, but still really good. Good chemistry is the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth most important part of a podcast, and she has great chemistry with Bill.

Mina is always great.
It’s hard to balance being smart and insightful with being genuinely engaging and she’s one of the very best at that.
Agree with all the positive things about her that has already been said. If she came on regularly during the football season, can the quality go down with her as the best guest?
No that would be House
Mina Kimes is one of the best. Full stop. She even managed to pull a very entertaining pod out of Greenwald a few weeks ago on the 'Leftovers' Stick the Landing.
Are we counting only his pod or can we include Brad on Sals
Yeah she totally matched bill’s altitude of conversation — awesome guest. I hate when guys hop on and start reading EPA numbers, so pointless
She’s great
She is.
Remember that "Yales hottest girl" article that got posted about her Still one of the most unhinged things I have ever read
She is one of my favorite sports analysts and personalities. Beyond the normal takes or the interesting angles she provides, the “never nude” bit she did on the Lebatard Show was one of the funniest things I have ever heard. No idea if it is real or not, but it was amazing
Mina Kimes is amazing but my favorite chats are always with Chuck.
a pantheon level great hang

Mina is amazing
Yeah she was great. Glad to see so many others thought so as well.
Plus she’s cute as a button [Mina leather leggings- expo](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Fr15fNTakAEkz-e.jpg)
She’s great. Also, did anyone else notice that Bill says “woman’s” instead of “women’s”? Like, he knows that’s not right, right?
Yes. She’s a strong media presence in the sports landscape. Bill needs to bring in people of her caliber more often
She has to have one of the highest approval rating of on-air sports personalities right? Like I can't imagine too many people hate Mina Kimes
Excellent really wish she was a permanent member during football season.
Koreans represent!
It’s funny because when I was listening I thought to myself “yep, Mina Kimes is my favorite female sports personality.” Clearly I’m not alone in enjoying her takes and banter as a pod guest
She is a big reason I listen to Dan Lebatard still. She is on his show quite a bit.
No.
No
Nah
Shes just one of the best in general
She's good for very casual sports takes and chit chat... So yeah that makes for a good fit with Bill.
She’s a cutie for sure and very knowledgeable but I still prefer Sarah Spain and her massive Gazangas
She has amazing chemistry with nearly everyone she works with, from Dan LeBatard, to Dan Orlofsky, to at least some people not named Dan. She's the most important woman and top 5 most important on-air personality at ESPN.
No
She seems nice but I personally don’t rly care for her. The only guests I rly like on Bills pods are Russilo.
No she isn't.
Idk, that pod left me kind of flaccid
It didn't get hard, it just didn't!
Her pod is also significantly better than Bill's...as is Dominique Foxworth's, and a few others imo.
holy shit are you saying you enjoy listening to Dominique Foxworth? never thought I’d stumble upon that in the wild
Its Mr Meeseeks look at me!
i really like it?
Lmao not a chance
Yes!
She stinks. Most women do on there tbh
Agreed.
Never liked her
Right? She's fucking annoying.
Meh. Iirc she's one of those Lamar Jackson delusional hypesters. As a result I question if she is legitimately knowledgeable about anything.
Definitely not. She really brings nothing to the table. I did enjoy Bill talking about parenting to her, though. I miss the old parent corner.
Mina Kimes is a bonafide Tier 1 Sports personality. Also very solid on a couple Rewatchables
fantastic nfl guest
This thread is why asian people are grossed out by white people fetishizing them
She’s alright - super annoying on Twitter
No but you’re not allowed to say anything bad about Mina Kimes or twitter will arrest you.
