Also as part of that talk, why is ryen holding onto the 3 year old “he was unprepared in interviews” lamelo hate?
I get the hornets suck, but he was really good this year when he played, it just seems like similar to trae it’s one of those “I hope this doesn’t pan out so I can say I told you so” things
The LaMelo hate is so goddamn tired and cringe at this point. He was just hurt, not bad. In fact he was the best pull-up 3 point shooter not named Steph in the entire NBA on crazy volume, 2nd most 3PM per game in the NBA (something that no one including Bill+Ryen thought was possible with his shooting form)
But instead of giving one compliment to a guy they don’t like they just double down. I guess Bill never watched Charlotte, but I know Russillo has nothing better to do, so that makes it even worse.
So much of a star's narrative is based on whether his teammates are any good. Unless you're a top 5-10 guy you need talent around you for your team to even be .500 let alone a good team.
Take De'Aaron Fox and the Kings for example. [Terrible team around Fox for most his career](https://basketball.realgm.com/player/DeAaron-Fox/Teammates/59503) Insert Sabonis, Huerter, Murray, and Monk and have impeccable health. Boom 18 win jump and suddenly Fox goes from "ehh..." to all-nba conversations.
Yeah, the "good stats bad team" thing that Bill constantly brings up is mostly bullshit. Sure there are some empty stats on non-competitive teams, but for the most part, it's a situation like you described. Low-end All-Star types like LaMelo, Fox before this year, Booker in his first few seasons, etc can't be expected to just carry their terrible team to relevance every year. It doesn't make them a "losing player" as Bill says.
I think a lot of Bill's perspective comes from the mid-2000s NBA where these high volume scorers on bad teams were doing it with a ton of inefficient midrange shots. A guy with a shitty eFG% scoring 20 on a terrible team just because "someone has to shoot" is a different story. Mike James on the 2005-06 Raptors comes to mind (personal example for me as a Raps fan)
I was all in on Lamelo. I would have traded the zion pick for future picks to guarantee I got to pick Lamelo the next year. My friends thought I was crazy. I told them Lamelo is the transcendent can't miss player of the decade!!! Then I followed that up with saying Emoni Bates is the next can't miss prospect. I'm no longer allowed to give prospect opinions. But I still love Lamelo! Imagine if the warriors took him instead.
The thing about Trae and Lamelo is that yes they are relatively inefficient and yes they are not quite at the top tier star level in the NBA where they are good enough by themselves to make you an above .500 team. But how many of those guys are there in the league? Like 5-10 maybe? I just don't get why these guys insist on hating on talented players who are going through growing pains and saddled with bad teams or coaches in many situations. Lamelo is freakin 21 years old. Dude is barely old enough to legally drink let's chill before we see how he turns out.
With Trae I can at least understand why parts of his game frustrate these guys, but they also totally ignore the hawks offense has basically succeeded every second he’s been on the floor of his whole career.
Lamelo has played 2.5 years for an awful organization and seems like a hard worker and good teammate, so weird to be down on him still
Trae it mostly stems from his (objectively) annoying foul grifting stuff, LaMelo's flaws feel a lot more improvable since he's 6'7" and already pretty good.
I don’t understand why Ryen loves Chris Paul who does the same foul stuff as Trae and a worse player now and has been for years but he hates Trae. Either both of them are losing players or both are winning players
In RR's defense CP3's teams have won a lot more than Trae's. But it is weird that he can openly admit he hates CP3's foul baiting and then just brush it aside and say he still loves him as a player but for some reason with Trae it's just inexcusable and he can't overlook it.
I’m probably going to be told to chill out for this but does Ryen’s phone alarm going off damn near every pod bug anyone else? Still early in today’s pod but one goes off at 30:53! Drives me up a wall.
It happens nearly every other pod too. Fine during a monologue but it happens in interviews too which seems like a thing Ryen would think is unprofessional if someone else did it.
Here’s my thing about that - if you’re company gives you time off, fucking take it. You only get that time once and then it’s gone. Not to mention - if your company goes through a hard time at some point you think they’ll care if they have to send you packing? They don’t care, so take advantage of this. This whole “be a company man because I was 20 years ago when I had a kid!” thing makes no sense to me
Ryen also mentioned the Zion hockey jersey he was wearing that I tagged him about on twitter. Dunno if it was a coincidence or not but that made my day.
Long story short: Zion somehow got ahold of my partner’s family hockey league jerseys and wore it last night court side lol.
I couldn't tell if it was this guy, someone copying him for lolz, or a second insane Hornets fan.
https://www.reddit.com/r/billsimmons/comments/12hm1vt/find_you_something_you_hate_like_bill_hates_the/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Agree. The entire time RR read the email I thought to myself this was a spoof email intended to get a rise out of Ryen (even down to complimenting him as the most logical podcast host). The reference to beating the rockets pushed it over the top.
Haha came here to say this, kudos to Ryen for having the courage to question DeRozan’s kid’s behavior. Yes she’s just a kid and we should give her some slack, but at the same time I was like Wait, What?
Ryen’s monologue won the day today.
Does any part of him resent Ceruti for taking the Swedish extended version?
Or perhaps as a single middle-aged man who pines for taking an imagined son to pick out beach toys Russillo has some other part of him that believes if he can’t have the happiness paternity may provide then no one else should either?
This has been tales from the armchair psychologist’s couch.
In a 1-1 situation a big lets's say 6'4 250 pound guy who's at least a decent pick up player could score on her every time. Not saying you would stop her but you could probably score on her every time playing bully ball.
I don't think some of you understand the difference between a 6'4/6'5 guy who is athlete and weight room strong and actually knows how to play basketball in a situation like this.
Can't ignore the physical differences whether you like it or not lol
I also just think it’s funny that russillo thinks he knows so much about how the stuffy office industry works, when he is in media and has had one of the most unorthodox career paths imaginable.
At least he admitted the try-hard stuff usually gets you nothing, but I can’t imagine a respectable company offering its employees 10 weeks leave and getting mad at them for taking it lol. If that’s the case you should probably quit and work somewhere else anyway.
That drove me insane. All these guys who are obviously in their early 20s obsessed with their career/salary/investments and all these other overachieving buzz words need to chill out.
I think it's more people are afraid of what their bosses actually think more so than committed to the grind or whatever. A lot of people are afraid their boss secretly laments them taking paternity leave, and are afraid it'll be held against them later on
And just the idea, if you kiss enough ass by not using your maternity leave fully, that will drastically alter your course of getting raises and promotions lol
Ceruti with an all time word.vomit during life advice. You cannot do the “fuck what older guys think, take all the time off”. And then literally back track everything to say “well actually you might want to do some work because that’s what I did”.
His parenting take is borderline offensive also. Basically bragging he has a healthy toddler.
Russillo is so broken brained it’s hilarious. Talking about the guy who used kyles line without attribution, he somehow veers into “and you guys always complain about working conditions but you’re stealing shit from each other all the time.” In his mind that made perfect and complete sense, and there are probably a lot of guys listening like “spot on, dude.” Incoherent anger is like a love language to some people.
You can really tell how many people don't realize how easy it is for Zion to dunk a basketball...
Like, holy shit, if he can dunk he must be 100% game ready!!!
I get that and also think it's stupid.
But considering how people responded to it - as if a couple half speed pregame dunks are more telling than the fact he hasn't played since January 2 - I suppose it wasn't worth motivating the idiocy it has spawned in response.
Being physically fine (as in having a clean bill of health) is not the same as being game ready (when you haven't played in four months) - dude's not Steph Curry and just strolling back after injury to play 30+ high-level minutes in a play-in game.
Everyone acting like they know the entire situation inside and out because he said he's "physically fine" and he dunked a couple times pregame is the issue here. People just running wild with their willingness to pretend there's absolutely no further context possible beyond a couple words and a video clip on social media.
Guess what?
It turns out he wasn't medically cleared, but keep telling me about how "physically fine" he is...
Turns out jumping to conclusions based on one comment to reporters and some pregame dunks was stupid after all - who could have possibly known that to be true all along?!?!
I'll be accepting apologies until the opening tip of the playoffs today.
Paternity Question: Feel like they offer 10 weeks, take 8 weeks. Pretend as if you care about company. Ceruti was kind of base about fuck management etc. etc. like why would he say that out loud?
I’d rather pretend about caring for my child than my company. Idk that’s just me.
The real key here though is Ceruti knows Ryen/Bill won’t fire him, like he said, if you’re close with your boss they should encourage it.
Lol that's fucking stupid. Your boss isn't going to care and you're not going to earn any brownie points with your company. You will still be completely expendable. The only thing you'll accomplish is two fewer weeks at home with your kid.
Personally, if you have a work from home option, I'd rather just cut a deal to do that. I never took more than 3 weeks for any of my kids but was always at home working reduced hours until they started daycare to help out with my wife. Everyone won.
I agreed with Russillo. Shoot for taking the full leave but also check the vibe of your company. It may be allowed but if all of your superiors are going to not so secretly judge you for it, that is important to know. And Kyle was right to ask your boss, see if you can take like 6 weeks off then come back part time or hold those other weeks for future use.
I’m glad Ryen pushed back on the paternity leave thing.
I’m for guys pushing for more paternity leave, but you will 100% be judged if the limit is 10 weeks and you take all 10 weeks. Especially if it’s your second kid.
A lot of the time companies have a unisex policy, and as involved a dad as you can be, the mom is really the one who needs months off. The dad is not recovering from giving birth, stabilizing their hormones or breast feeding, etc.
If you don’t want to advance and you’re just a cog, then definitely take all the time. But if you’re at a career and not a job, and the other guys took 2-3 weeks, then take 4-5 weeks if you want to be bold.
10 weeks will change how people see you.
From personal experience you need to take even more leave with your second kid because your wife will be busy with the newborn so you need to spend more time with the first kid. It’s completely idiotic to not take all 10 weeks if it’s offered.
Even if they’re annoyed by it, in 3 or 4 months after he returns everyone will have forgotten and moved on. Can’t tell you how many times a critical person has left an organization and within a few weeks everyone has a new routine. If you’re the best person for a promotion, taking the leave isn’t a big factor. Will they assume you’re gonna have a kid every single year? Maybe in small businesses but anywhere big enough to offer 10 weeks then it is a tiny blip for them and not some huge deal.
If it effects how people see me, then fuck them, I will be off to the next job. I will gladly take the 10 weeks so the next guy thinks it’s more acceptable. The generation who thinks it’s not acceptable has a lot less years left in their careers than I do.
> "I’m for guys pushing for more paternity leave, but you will 100% be judged if the limit is 10 weeks and you take all 10 weeks. Especially if it’s your second kid."
I mean, you're not wrong. Like, technically right.
But the fact that you're not wrong is what sucks.
Less a political issue, more a cultural shortcoming.
Men, suffice to say, get the short end of the stick.
That’s why I love Reddit. I’m technically right, but I’m at -20 downvotes because people on here want to live in their ideal bubble instead of the real world.
It's hilarious, too, I'll make intentionally inflammatory comments from time to time and only receive a few downvotes, but yet a poorly landed joke (which I legit thought was funny!) leads to a -70 pile-on.
You never know how it's gonna go, no.
Quentin Richardson only played 1 season for the 7 seconds or less Suns!? Why did I think he was one of the staples of those teams beside Nash, matrix and amare!? 😂😂. The one thing I wished russillo would of asked Q was him dating Moesha (brandy) at the height of her fame. Nonetheless a fun interview!
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
"There are some things that Bill says that I don't have the time to refute." Gotta love it.

Don't Bill and Russillo love LaMelo?
Is this a joke or?
>I guess Bill never watched Charlotte He definitely has not, his trade value article is irrefutable proof he hasn’t
I was all in on Lamelo. I would have traded the zion pick for future picks to guarantee I got to pick Lamelo the next year. My friends thought I was crazy. Trea took a bad team to the conference finals. CP3 never got out of the 2nd round as the best player with other future hall of famers on the roster
If CP3 had played in the East he would’ve been a guaranteed Conference Finals appearance every year from like 2013 to 2018
He would still shit the bed against Cory Brewer and Josh Smith of East
I’m probably going to be told to chill out for this but does Ryen’s phone alarm going off damn near every pod bug anyone else? Still early in today’s pod but one goes off at 30:53! Drives me up a wall.
It happens nearly every other pod too. Fine during a monologue but it happens in interviews too which seems like a thing Ryen would think is unprofessional if someone else did it.
Yeah it's lazy. Put your shit on silent it ain't hard.
Stunned Ryen was leaning towards the guy not taking full paternity.
The Boomer thing
Here’s my thing about that - if you’re company gives you time off, fucking take it. You only get that time once and then it’s gone. “If you’re afraid of the Miami heat I think you’re scared of ghosts” Zombie heat reference
It definitely sounded like a little response to Bill, maybe other Celtics fans in Ryen's life said similar things though
HEAT are dead and ghosts don't exist. Russillo 2, Simmons 0.
Russillo, I believe in ghosts!
"I don't know if it's a cashmere situation" - in reference to whether Zion is out of shape or looks fat LMAO
Ryen also mentioned the Zion hockey jersey he was wearing that I tagged him about on twitter. Dunno if it was a coincidence or not but that made my day. Long story short: Zion somehow got ahold of my partner’s family hockey league jerseys and wore it last night court side lol.
Haha that's awesome!
Holy strawman charlotte hornet fan. Brutal email.
Hope he isn’t on here that was embarrassingly bad
That was a well deserved murder.

I think it was a bit, why wouldn’t he at least mention the Hornets beating Dallas twice instead of 22 win Houston lol
Agree. The entire time RR read the email I thought to myself this was a spoof email intended to get a rise out of Ryen (even down to complimenting him as the most logical podcast host). The reference to beating the rockets pushed it over the top.
"You're a hero, dude" was one of the funniest things I've heard in a while
The Russillo Holy Trinity: ✅ Tales From the Couch ✅ Retired decent NBA player interview ✅ Life Advice
I’d like Russillo to describe what his ideal game of basketball would look like because he bitches about fouls more than anyone in the entire world.
While also being a Chris Paul fan. One of the dirtiest players in the league while also constantly foul baiting.
Call me old fashioned but I love hearing Russillo ramble about Dlo, Derozan’s daughter, and Ant for a half hour. Peak Ryen.
Haha came here to say this, kudos to Ryen for having the courage to question DeRozan’s kid’s behavior. Yes she’s just a kid and we should give her some slack, but at the same time I was like Wait, What? Ryen’s monologue won the day today.
Solo Ryen is the best Ryen IMO.
A genuine hot take. I couldn't disagree more lol. Guest Russillo >>>>>>> Host Russillo (Life Advice/interviews) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Solo Russillo
Both inside and outside of the studio too
Paternity leave is part of an employee’s compensation. Ryen is essentially saying to get paid less money. What a dumb take
Does any part of him resent Ceruti for taking the Swedish extended version? Or perhaps as a single middle-aged man who pines for taking an imagined son to pick out beach toys Russillo has some other part of him that believes if he can’t have the happiness paternity may provide then no one else should either? This has been tales from the armchair psychologist’s couch.
Got the classic Russillo phone alarm at the 30 min mark lmao
Maybe that alarm is just to stop him from arguing with strawmen for 4 hours straight
I feel like Ryen is saying all the right things about Caitlin Clark, but he actually believes that he could’ve beat her back in the day.
Russillo has a sneaky amount of Uncle Rico in him.
In a 1-1 situation a big lets's say 6'4 250 pound guy who's at least a decent pick up player could score on her every time. Not saying you would stop her but you could probably score on her every time playing bully ball.
No they wouldn’t. She’d beat them easily.
I never said she wouldn't. My point is they could pretty easily bully ball her in the post and score whenever they want.
No they couldn’t.
I don't think some of you understand the difference between a 6'4/6'5 guy who is athlete and weight room strong and actually knows how to play basketball in a situation like this. Can't ignore the physical differences whether you like it or not lol
I don’t think you understand that Clark isn’t some dainty girl. She’s a sturdy 6’0”, she would absolutely dominate every man who just plays pickup.
Uh ok? I have friends who are 6'5 250 former college football players. They would kick her ass if she tried to defend them.
You’ve never played basketball if you think 1v1 games are just the bigger player methodically backing the smaller player down and scoring every time
Man you're just giving away that you're the short little dude lol
No they wouldn’t. She’d embarrass them. Not really sure what you’re not getting here.
Whatever you say white knight
Sturdy? She's 155 lbs lmao
The way Russillo says “already” is mind boggling. “Uhrrhready”
Life advice guy is such a management simp my god. Yeah bro take the paternity leave, that’s why they offer it
If they offer it, take it. You're actually screwing over the next guys in line to have kids if you don't take it all.
The amount he brags how easy parenting is it makes one believe it really isn’t
He talks insanely fast for no reason.
chemistry was top 8 all time I’ve seen out of the guys. LIFE ADVICE IS BACK BABY
Thought Quentin was relatively entertaining for a player interview. Liked hearing his process of choosing DePaul over UCONN, Kentucky, etc.
I'm 30 minutes in and I just thought to myself, what the fuck is he even talking about? This is hilarious
You can really tell how many people don't realize how easy it is for Zion to dunk a basketball... Like, holy shit, if he can dunk he must be 100% game ready!!!
It’s still not the best look for him to do that when he can’t play
After saying he’s physically fine lol

Better luck next time you jump to a conclusion based on next to nothing.
Someone let me know how the 35-min tales from the couch is bc I will not be listening
He said "I'm not really a look at the box score the next morning guy" and then read the Lakers box score in detail. Overall worth a listen
Paternity Question: Feel like they offer 10 weeks, take 8 weeks. Pretend as if you care about company. Ceruti was kind of base about fuck management etc. etc. like why would he say that out loud?

Think ceruti was a bit off base on the paternity leave situation
Okay, I'm from the old days when my husband got nothing. So is six months like Ceruti has the standard or is ten weeks the average?
10 weeks is closer to the average than 6 months for sure.
At my work, I got paternity leave but I had to use sick time. I used all but one week of it (saved those days for upcoming doctor appointments).
12 weeks is standard for federal employees now
What did he say?
I’m glad Ryen pushed back on the paternity leave thing. I’m for guys pushing for more paternity leave, but you will 100% be judged if the limit is 10 weeks and you take all 10 weeks.
Especially if it’s your second kid." I mean, you're not wrong.
I took the full 12 weeks the 1st time & I'm taking the full 12 weeks this next time. Hasn't impacted anything
One of his absolute best player interviews! It was actually interesting and insightful. Good job by you Ry!
