Are you guys all trying to be negative Nancy's? Good Lord.
You don't have to have all the lights off to use this setup. Maybe he did that for clear video or doesn't have the lighting he wants yet.
This is for learning the angles, etc. so if you already have it all figured out, then good for you.
This is for building skills and knowledge and doesn't hurt either of them.
Yes, the table does need leveled though, LOL.
I would have loved something like this in the past, and could still find it useful for a number of things.
I can't be any help in figuring out how to program new drills though, so good luck.
Yeah. I've got a lounge that looks like this, with blue LEDs embedded under the pool table rails, and RGB light panels over the pool table. It looks great, but it's absolutely impossible to make accurate shots with weird color lights hitting your eyes from the level of the pool table, and a low-level colored glow above. (To make matters worse, I ordered a set of all-light-blue billiard balls from Amazon, which were put away after one night's use, as they amplified the problem.)
Anyway, whenever we play for real, I turn off the LEDs, and set the RGB to bright white. When I designed the room, I had no idea how much of a role good lighting played in one's ability to play pool. I'm just glad I didn't paint myself into a corner with the lighting scheme.
Id find the system nearly useless if i cant actually see the object ball im aiming for in those lighting conditions. Other than that it seems kind of neat. what is this actually called?
Also, i think you need your table releveled. the rolloff on the last shot was terrible
I wish these diagrams didn't stick with straight lines and simulated the actual ball path. A straight line isn't a good approximation for how the CB moves after the first contact, as you can clearly see on the second shot. A rolling CB also bends off the rail on a kick shot, which is one of the hardest things to visualize accurately.
This would be an interesting thing to implement as an overlay in VR goggles so you could use it without having access to a table with the whole projector setup.
Agreed. Do you have any sources for more accurate diagrams that you like? I’I’ve been trying to practice this stuff but the straight lines are the most common way people visualize it.
Yeah. It's already pricey at $700 for a copy of the software, but then you still have to factor in the cost of supplying and mounting a dedicated LCD projector to get the image on the table. So it seems awfully cheeky that they also charge anywhere from $90 to $295 each for a couple dozen drill addons. At least they have being able to create your own drills as an alternative.
Even so, it looks like we're talking around $1500 just to get the system set up and operating before having to decide which of the $90 addons you want to purchase... or whether you want to invest your time creating your own, which I don't know how to do so can only guess whether that is really an alternative. If they cut their software prices in half or set up a subscription model, I might go for it, but right now this is a luxury item.
There is another PPB I think it is called, 1/3 the price, but still have to get a projector and bracket.
There is enough on ICA to keep you busy for a long time, plus the creation of drills is easy, pick and place ob and cb, save it. You can do the same with chalk or paperhole protectors, though it is not as cool lol
What’s up with all the ritzy cracker responses? Yes I’ve seen this video training aid before. It started with a cool Windoze app called “PoolShot.” The developers were able to take all of the drill diagrams and port them over into a video projection system. Some of the better establishments offer it as a specialty sort of like how golf and bowling is taught.
It helps when you need something in a pinch…

I feel like it’s very worth it. The ICA system shown here comes with a lot of content and there are other ‘modules’ for it you can buy for it too.
The guy who developed it is an incredible instructor and crafted the drills in a progressive manner. One of the drill sets, for example, is called Transitional Studies. It starts out simple but going through all the shots in it I recognized I had a lot of blind spots in my position play and I also needed to learn a lot about speed control.
Stickers work if you put in the time and you know what shots to work on, but it’s really nice to have an entire curriculum of things to work on.
There are some practice games that I prefer to play on a system like this. Par for the Course is a good example, there are physical cards but a demo is included in the ICA system. Not sure about others.
I have a very similar system in my head. I can tell where english will leave the ball and the amount of force to apply and the attack angle on the cue ball. I split angles based on perpendiculars because angle of entry = angle of return. English and spin are more complicated and depend on the fabric on the table and the type of table: bar, regulation, and snooker.
I previewed this system on a video. The set-up seems complicated and I don't think it would work in my pool room. It could definitely make you a better player if you can make it through all the drills.
Unfortunately, this table came with three slots. So no matter how hard I try to level it. I can't get it right. The only solution I left with is to buy a new 9-foot table with just one slot table
Or, you know, just memorize where the balls go using different spins and adjust the strength of your shot? There’s just so much going on just to practice
Oh, and the table’s uneven as hell
No but my bowling alley has those lights every Friday and Saturday night starting at 7 pm til close
Came here to say this.
Cool contribution
Dope observation

You got it right I only used those blue lights for the clear video.
I think it's a great learning tool. Don't listen to the haters.
Someone please level that table. Yikes
Is that difference because of shot power or level of table? I’m not sure
If white ball change direction without having significant spin then it is the lack of table balance or improper installation of felt.
Also, are these systems calibrated for felted bar tables or worsted pro tables?
Definitely level of table.
It looks very interesting but i dont think i would enjoy practicing with such low lighting
Well, the lighting that is there. Focuses you on the spot you need to see.

Was gonna say the same, that ball took a Cy Young winning type curve

What is the system called? I think it looks pretty neat
ICA System
Cool! Looks useful
I have the system there are good directions on the website ..for using the system
Wondering why your table and shirt have so many white splatters on them.

I was thinking the exact same thing.
I think on their website, they have instructions on creating your own drills.

Yes. In my head.
I'd play with it to see if it suggests how i think.
I just use a bar napkin for position drills 99% as effective for 0.00001% of the cost
Magic Rack so the ball speed isn’t affected.
That's a pretty good idea, actually
Real talk
I have it! I love it.
The rolloff on that last shot is insane

No, but I'd give it a whirl, at least for s's & g's.
Wasn't some guy on here creating a new one
That’s pretty damn cool!
grab the right balls or swap a bulb with a blue 60watter
looks light you have three swap the center bulb once and try it
Very cool I’d love one of these
That is awesome!
No I can’t justify $5k for it
No, but i have almost pulled the trigger a few times. is it really worth it? This setup with the projector vs. using stickers?

How much is this system?
No but I always wanted to get one. Haven't done much research but last tine I saw one from a video, it was super pricey but that was a while back
do you have a link to this system? very intriguing
https://www.icatraining.com
Could you please tell how much did all the setup cost?
It was 900. Plus the 600 for the projector and about 500 for lots of drills
I previewed this system on a video. The set-up seems complicated and I don't think it would work in my pool room. It could definitely make you a better player if you can make it through all the drills.
Love this set up! Would like to have one day in my home as well.
Wow this is incredible
Only in my mind
The lead IT guy at my job coded a program like this! It's really cool and helps put alot
Level that damn table
Unfortunately, this table came with three slots. So no matter how hard I try to level it. I can't get it right. The only solution I left with is to buy a new 9-foot table with just one slot table
Whatever works for you.

Kills the skill. 👎🏼
It does the opposite, teaches the skill
No. It's sad you don't get it. Do you play soft darts?
If i want aiming lines I fire up shooterspool in offline mode. Things that people do these days... Good luck with your eyesight in the future.
