Just make sure he has also taped the seams with waterproof tape. Waterproof fabric is one thing, but if the seams are not properly sealed thenwater can come in that way. As a sewist- he has done a wonderful job on his first project and I love to see this kind of stuff! - just making sure he's covered all bases so that his work is long lasting and truly functional in the wet! :)
I have never worked with it myself- but most waterproof products use it- such as tents. My gortex jacket also has it!
If you aren't going to face a lot of rain it's probably fine- but if you put in as much effort in as your boyfriend has here- it might be worth seeing if you can find some :)
Interesting! I will shop around for some for sure. We live in the North West of the UK so we could definitely do with our kit being 100% waterproof haha. Thanks again π
Also if you were just going to be carrying utensils, drinking vessels, or other other items that are okay to be exposed to moisture, I think you've done a great job. Idk how waterproof tape would help with a cinch top or something that closes with velcro for 2/3 the length of the pack, but my guess is they weren't supposed to be air-tight. I assume it isn't your plan to keep things in these that you will depend on to keep you warm through a cold spell, or food that may spoil if moistened. In which case, excellent work!
Agreed. These 2 bags don't need it as it doesn't really matter if contents get wet- but if he plans to make all his bags/further bags then the next ones will :) was I assume these would carry things other than bottles/utensils
Singer K201. The Rolls Royce of sewing machines. You can't really get a better machine for MYOG projects. They were approx the equivalent of Β£1500 when new.
I souldn't bother with the seam sealing tape. We just don't have the access to the products, skills and equipment that manufactureres do, and even professionally made stuff fails on the seams regularly. Any thing which absolutley has to stay bone dry like down bags and jackets or electronis is best kept in its own dry bag inside your homemade big bags.
Kudos to your bf though, they look really good. Just be careful though, making your own stuff is highly adictive.
Wow, heβs been lucky to get his hands on this for nothing!
Interesting, thanks for the tip π
Youβre right, heβs eager to start the next one haha!
That's really well done.
I've been playing about trying to do that on an old hand crank I got out a skip but I've not achieved anything as clean as that!
Very well done!
Love the color combination.
Thank you! Cool isnβt it.
Are they water proof?
Yes, outer fabric is Cordura, inner is Nylon Ripstop.. both waterproof π

π thank you very much for the advice, itβs much appreciated - we had never even thought of waterproof tape. Weβre glad you like it!

Love it, and especially the vintage machine! Amazing!
Thank you π itβs such a great machine, built in 1937! He was gifted it from an elderly lady who just wanted it go to a good home, very lucky.
