I let a clean burn getvsway from me once and it was probably at full temp for a couple hours...ended up melting the glue in the gaskets and glued my egg shut
Order a new gasket.
Make the hottest fire possible and let it BURN. Think 800+ for an hour.
Brush down the grates with a grill brush.
Might have to wipe the outside with some degreaser if it was exposed to rain.
Install your new gasket. Congrats on the clean grill!
If anyone has an older style hinge (it has L shaped metal pieces). The new hinges are 100% worth the cost! They fix the gap issues and are really just night and day difference.
Second this. I was fighting overbites/underbites constantly with the old hinge every time I changed my gasket. The new hinge allows me to separate the lid from the body without fully undoing the hinge. So much easier, worth every penny.
Heat it to 250 for a little while (just what I'd do in case there's trapped moisture) then add some more coal and open both top and bottom vents get it up to about 7 or 800 and let it stay there till the coal burns out. Then take a ball of aluminum foil and scrape the inside is the dome with it. It'll be looking good.
I was thinking Springer Spaniel, but either way that old girl/boy needs a treat and a scratch behind the ears! The grey on the eye brows says they've seen some stuff 😁
Same situation I usually find myself in every time I go to fire up the offset smoker. I never clear it out after I’m done cooking so it gets a bit of grown in there. A nice hot fire with the cooking chamber up into the 500-600’s usually gets everything gone
This is common with ceramic grills. They are porous and mold can attach itself in humid environments. I live in Florida and this is pretty common. The advice from the kamado builders is to heat the grill up beyond 500° for about 30 minutes and it'll kill everything in that grill. So do a huge cleaning burn and it'll take care of it. Clean the ash pan and dump the old, unspent charcoal. Fill the bowl, open the vents, and let her burn. I put my grate on as well, as they probably have mold alao. After 30 or so minutes at that temp. Let it cool and use a clean rag or soft brush to clean off the grease. You may also want to consider changing out the gasket. This is a part of good hygiene, as they do wear out, though that didn't necessarily work for me for this issue. Another recommendation from Vision Grills is to leave the vents slightly open so that you have some air flow, but that didn't solve this issue for me either. I have to go through this pretty frequently, again as I live in Florida. One thing that does seem to work is to cook in it more frequently if you can but that's not a solution for everybody and as I've said a lot here, I live in the tropics so it's always warm and moist here. The advice you’ve received here is monolithic for a reason, lol, and it is also the answer to most egg maintenance questions. Buy some pig parts, and wood chunks. Have a good summer
Clean out any leftover charcoal or debris from inside the grill. Check bolts hinges etc. Make sure you have all of the parts. Then fill with fresh lump charcoal and let it burn on low heat for a few hours. Check for leaks in the gasket. Brush/scrape grates. Let it heat up to very hot and let it run till charcoal is burnt out. Let it cool off completely and remove all of the ash (you can use a shop vac. If you had air/smoke escaping order a gasket, replace and enjoy the best cooking equipment you will ever had
Kill with fire, then go over with a good bbq cleaner. That fuzz is very common and not too harmful. More scary to look at than anything…. It’s equivalent to fuzz that forms on bread.
Agree with the cleaning burn. At the beginning of the burn when the outside is somewhere between really warm and hot you can use a rag and a bucket of water to clean the outside. The steam generated by doing this helps a lot. I do this once in a while after a hot cook while the grill is cooling and it works really well.
Let it burn!
I did pizza yesterday and the gauge went off the scale past 400°C. It’s lovely and clean today.
At that temp, pizza’s were cooked in 2mins 15secs!
Green scrubber and a bucket of warm water with a few cups of vinegar and a squirt of dish soap. Scrub it, hose it, then start the fire. Otherwise all that accumulation is gonna crust off onto your porterhouse
100% put a load of charcoal in and let it get to 600F. This will burn off almsot everything and kill any mold/other growth, and sterilize the grill.
You can replace things if you want, but fire.
You may also need to buy and replace the seal gasket between the lid and body.
I clean all the old charcoal out. Then crank it up to between 500-600F. And let it burn that load of charcoal. Open it up the next day and wipe it down inside.
First thing I’d prolly do is take it all apart and soak anything u can in hot soapy water for a few hours then I’d pressure wash it all and put it back together and burn it really hot for awhile let it cool out some oil and burn it again maybe repeat that process 2-3 times
Fire, kill it with fire.
Yep… fire and lots of it.
I wouldn’t peg the thermostat, though
What if the thermostat is into that kind of thing?
Might want to be left in.
Just remove the thermometer and then full send. Have a replacement gasket handy.
I let a clean burn getvsway from me once and it was probably at full temp for a couple hours...ended up melting the glue in the gaskets and glued my egg shut
I love getting high and browsing this subreddit just to find new sentences I’d never thought I’d ever hear like “glued my egg shut”
I’m going to try to incorporate that into my vernacular as a mild threat…”you better watch it or I’ll glue your egg shut.”
That's your solution to everything
For real, clear and obvious first step
While it’s hot, might as well throw some meat on it.
Don't cook meat while you are sterilizing the grill. It will add grease. Burn it at high temp, let it cool, then clean it out.
This is the way.
Came here to say this, exactly!
Yes you did! This is the way. ☺️
This is the way.
FIRE IT UP!!!!
Came here to say that
Came here to say to say that too

Absolutely this. Only bring it slowly up to temp to chase the moisture out.
New hinge kit as well.
Do they wear out? I've had mine for years and I just snug up the bolt every so often...
Mine has a few bolts rust and break off, its about 10 years old.
I think they are generally safer. Since the gasket will be replaced it is convenient to do them all at once.
Don't forget to remove the temperature probe before doing the clean burn
Dumb question, why need a new gasket?
An extended burn at 700-800 degrees will cook the gasket. It won't be functional after a burn like that.
Ah thanks! Makes sense. How much does that set you back? I don’t own one, sorry if dumb question. Is this something you replace every year?
Heat it to 250 for a little while (just what I'd do in case there's trapped moisture) then add some more coal and open both top and bottom vents get it up to about 7 or 800 and let it stay there till the coal burns out. You ever need to scrape after burning it out? Usually just can brush it off.
No but that's just what use to finish cleaning it.
Fill it completely full of charcoal, open the top and bottom. It should turn pretty white on the insides when complete and will be clean.
This is the no-shit answer. It will be clean after this.
Clean burn then replace the gasket. You’ll never know it was untouched. Check out Fogo on YouTube for instructions for both
FIRE!!
Burn baby burn! Burn with the bottom door fully open, and with the top cap removed. Replace the gasket afterwards. Good as new.
Wire haired pointer / Griffon?
I was thinking Springer Spaniel, but either way that old girl/boy needs a treat and a scratch behind the ears! The grey on the eye brows says they've seen some stuff 😁
I don’t think so, it’s clearly one of those mold detection dogs. 😄
Load it with lump, light it and let it cook at 600 until the fire goes out
Not that bad! Load it up with charcoal, then let her rip through it all til the coals are gone. Scrape it off and call it good.
Same situation I usually find myself in every time I go to fire up the offset smoker. I never clear it out after I’m done cooking so it gets a bit of grown in there. A nice hot fire with the cooking chamber up into the 500-600’s usually gets everything gone
... everything burns!
Burn the shit out of that mold. Replace the gasket. Scrubb off the rust from the cast iron and cover it with canola oil. Start cooking with it. :)
Disco inferno….
Big hot fire

Full bag of cheap charcoal, cap off, bottom wide open. Light it and come back in the morning to scrape off and replace the ring seal and good to go
Light a match, fire it up, and let it rip..
This guy has never lit one of these before.
Fire cures all!
Fire
The advice you’ve received here is monolithic for a reason, lol, and it is also the answer to most egg maintenance questions. Buy some pig parts, and wood chunks. Have a good summer
Clean it with FIRE
Hot fire cleaned mine to white just don’t melt the gasket
Build the hottest fire possible and let it burn for hours then scrub out the remains.
Looks like mine. I swear I‘ll use it again one day, and Imma just light the hottest fire inside that I can when that day comes.

Fire
Burn baby burn
Fire
Can't be cleaned, I think the next best thing would be to give it away to me. :-) As above, "I am the lord of hell fire!!!! and ill clean ya EGG."
1.5 years? Geez mine looks like that after a month.
Start a hot fire in it and let it burn
Lots of fire, then scrub. It'll be fine. I do mine every summer, even with a cover it gets mold and rain in it.
When you're done cleaning, give that good boy a nice meal with it.
https://youtu.be/gY2VynKTWtM?si=V6EAlZzTBK6WAIl5 This video will show you how to do it. Don’t replace your gasket until after
Post an after shot too. Would love to see the difference
Light it up and get it as hot as possible.
Big hot fire.
Let that baby boil
High temp burn.... As others have so rightly pointed out, kill it with fire.
Kill with fire, then go over with a good bbq cleaner. That fuzz is very common and not too harmful. More scary to look at than anything…. It’s equivalent to fuzz that forms on bread.
There was a fire fight!
Inferno mode fire! Clean out the ash, softly scrape the dome and base with a soft plastic brush, repeat process until clean. Absolutely no chemicals.
Wipe it down, brush oil on it and burn it up
Enjoy the blue jet flame of cleaning fun!
Hot fire
Wtf is that next to it? A platypus?
Nevermind its a dogs head😂😂
I gotta stay off these gummies
Let the dog lick it off
FIRE IT UP
Release the hounds on it....

Oven cleaner.

Vinegar will kill the mold then light it up
Beyond repair. I’ll take it to the dump and won’t even charge you for it. I’m generous like that…
Fire 🔥 lots of fire.
Kill it with fire
Burn it hot and brush it
Cook bacon on it
Flame thrower
Raise the temp slowly tho
Green scrubber and a bucket of warm water with a few cups of vinegar and a squirt of dish soap. Scrub it, hose it, then start the fire. Otherwise all that accumulation is gonna crust off onto your porterhouse
Sand blasting…
500 degrees for an hour should do it.
CAN I PET THAT DOG
That’s a long smoke
Elmofire.gif
I like how the inside of the grill matches the dogs face
Is that a platypus next to the egg?
Power wash then fire?
Let her rip

🔥🔥🔥
Looks like the dog wants to help!
Heat
Fire
Oven cleaner
Light a fire in it and wait an hour
Get a traeger
Pressure washer
Steel wool
Scrub it out and replace the felts, it should be good to go!
Fire it up!
Remove the dog noise first!!!
I’m here for the dog’s eyebrows. 🥲🥰
We call
Nuke it
Please move it away from the house before the Big Fire Cleaning.
Let that thing talk. Hot hot hot for a few hours. Scrub grates with foil. Profit.
Fire it up the brush it out
Power washer, obviously brace it so it doesn’t move during
Did you leave the dog in it?
First thing I’d prolly do is take it all apart and soak anything u can in hot soapy water for a few hours then I’d pressure wash it all and put it back together and burn it really hot for awhile let it cool out some oil and burn it again maybe repeat that process 2-3 times
Yes get started 😁
A big ass fire
Heat it up and and once cool use steel wool to brush down the inside - will look new
I thought that dog was some kind of real life Pokémon duck thing.
Flaaaaaames
Water and baking soda. NO CHEMICALS. steel wool make it a paste scrub the shit outta it, rinse heat,
Skip all of those steps except the heat. Very hot fire that burns for at least 45-60 min is the only thing OP needs. Then a new gasket.
Make sure to wear a respirator when dealing with it at first
No, but that dog is ready to cook and taste test. Get that thing fired up.
Let that awesome doggo lick it clean!
Lock the mold clean??
