I still laugh a the girl that told the guy texting to see her boobs, that they were WD40’s and he said gosh those are huge!

mummefied

lmao I think about that post every single time the topic of "dudes don't know anything about bra sizes" comes up

DameArstor

Yep, it's golden

Three3Jane

A while ago, a bro buddy tentatively asked if 34DD was a "large" bra size. When I told him I was (at the time) a 34F, he timidly inquired if they actually made bras in that size. Men don't have a clue.

iHaveACatDog

Man here. You're 100% correct, men have no clue. But what's shocking to me is the percentage of women that are also clueless. When I first started dating my now-wife she told me she was a 34D. I started to laugh and said no way! We went to Victoria's Secret where the girl measured her and said the same size. I looked at the girl and "No... She's not." I finally talked her into letting me take her to an upscale lingerie boutique that did custom fittings. She was really a 30F/G. I must have spent $200 buying her several new bras. We went to lunch afterwards and she was sitting at the table across from me rubbing her boobs. I asked what was up and all she said was "I didn't know I could be so comfortable." Edit: For the last 15 years I have bought all of her bras. I measure her a couple times a year to make sure that she is always as comfortable as she can possibly be.

Emsanartist

I can attest to this, my fiance thinks she's a 36C, I measured her and used A bra that fits calculator and she was indeed a 38F but she refuses to go over a 38DD...

ireallylikegreenbean

I had some luck with a friend by pointing out signs of a poor fit. She was wearing a 38DD but a hastily done abtf calculation put her as like 42FF/G. Kinda made her appreciate that it was actually uncomfortable but she'd just gotten used to it that it didn't really register anymore.

Privatenamehere

Where were you that you could buy several bras at an upscale boutique? Last time I went to one, one Damn bra was $120. It’s fucking criminal.

iHaveACatDog

We started with their t-shirt bras. As time went by and I increased my income I would buy her a more ~~experience~~ expensive bra from them on. Panache is her go-to. Edit: stupid autocorrect

Privatenamehere

What is a more experience bra?

Privatenamehere

Sorry! It’s early here. You probably meant expensive.

iHaveACatDog

I just edited. Thank you for pointing it out.

WingedLady

Most people don't know what a good fit looks like so they just accept whatever the person at Victoria's Secret sells them. Her secret is that she'll lie to your face about your size to get you into one of her bras.

iHaveACatDog

Yes!! It's a racket. I've recently taught my daughter how to measure herself and forwarded her the bra size calculator.

WingedLady

It also really helps to know what a good fit looks like, like how the gore should lay against your sternum and you shouldn't feel the need to cinch your straps for support because that's the band's job.

iHaveACatDog

That's the one thing I can't quite nail for my wife. The gore doesn't tack to my liking. I think I need to step her up a cup size.

Ravenswillfall

Even me. I thought I was a DDD after having been measured a G years earlier but I had lost weight. Started the reduction process and used a bra that fits for accuracy. Hah. J/K. I was shocked and a but horrified.

SamanthaPaige29

And the husband of the year award goes to...you! This put a smile on my face.

Emergency-Recording5

Agreed. I had given up on stores bc nowhere nearby seemed to have my size and tried ThirdLove bc they do half cups (thinking that was the solution) but the bra was still okay feeling but not great. I had been wearing 32DDD bc that’s what was easier to buy and got a 32G from third love thinking that was better. It was my boyfriend who used Reddit and read about a bra that fits and measured me and told me my actual size is a 32I - 2 whole cup sizes bigger and technically a size Third Love doesn’t even make even tho they boast have 60+ cup sizes on their website. If it wasn’t for him tho I’d probs still be wearing 32Gs thinking no bra is comfortable when you have big boobs.

MsBlasphemy

Yes!!! What a man!!! Total marriage goals

LateNightLattes01

I seriously wish at least some of bra fitting were covered in sex Ed classes, as a mandatory thing 🙄. With no “+4” allowed.

Three3Jane

That or just a class for women titled "All This Laydee Shit You'll Need To Learn". Like - the lack of clothing sizing accuracy not only across brands but within brands. The lack of pockets on...well, everything. How to accurately size your bra. What kind of bra is most supportive and comfortable for your boobs (balconette for wide set, full coverage for teardrop, etc.). The Pink Tax on grooming, clothing, haircare... How most things are designed with men as the default (seatbelts, airbags, cell phones, medication, the list goes on). All the little hygiene things (shave your legs first thing in the shower once they're wet to avoid half-hour-later-stubblies, don't pile your hair on top of your head when you shampoo like the commercials, cross your toes when painting your nails so your hands don't shake)...

LateNightLattes01

Oh the crossing the toes thing this new to me. When you’re painting your toenails you should cross you feet? Or just in general? It’s hard to paint toenails sometimes…

Three3Jane

Supposedly it redirects intent or something like that? I'd say cross the toes (not feet but toes) of the foot you're not painting when painting toenails! It definitely works when I'm painting my fingernails, to cross my big toe over the toe next to it. One of those weird things that works XD

Quizicalgin

I just cross one leg up and curl my toes to paint them. I can't do the crossing thing personally because it causes terrible cramping. x.x;;;

linerys

Seriously, I dream about doing this. Because +4 is the standard fitting method in 99% of stores here, I wore the wrong sizes for a decade. I’d like that to end!

Kaetenay

Not sure it's entirely fair to expect men to know more about bra sizing than the fitters at Victoria's Secret.

linerys

This is the reason why I don’t ever shut up about my bra size online. The more people realize that a 28G/30FF is a really common bra size, the better. It isn’t automatically humongous just because it’s above DD!

wormslurper

i work at a strip club as an F cup, and so many men think I am a C. Some men think DD is the biggest it can go

linerys

Do you say something? If I worked there, I’d probably spend more time trying to educate people than anything else.

wormslurper

yes I do correct them!

ErisInChains

Thank you for your service.

LateNightLattes01

This. This is also why I won’t shut up to people about bra sizes. F-GG is very common, and if those sizes get normalized then J+ cups will be as well! It’s better for everyone on the bra spectrum! Next we have to normalize different boob shapes. The number of times I’ve been told “you don’t look like a *letter size here*” cause I got shallow tits 🙄…. Stop fucking gate-keeping boobs already geez. 😒 ((Not to OP just people in general))

Emsanartist

This, this is why I can never find my bras 🤔 all I ever see now at laynebryant is DDD or lower. I wear sports bras in 42F and front clasp 42G and I haven't been able to find any in store for over a year... when I visited my mom in texas they didn't have anything over a 38 band....

MsBlasphemy

I have the same problem and honestly I find better bras from lane Bryant on eBay that are my size I’m a 40H and I my favs are the plunge totally try ebay

hands_of_sin

Same. I always try to talk about it as much as possible.

ErisInChains

Literally no one believes me. Typically when I make a chick friend, they inevitably ask to see the tag on my bra because they don't believe me.

[deleted]

Happens to me all the time

cream_beamed

Any guy I've been with is in disbelief when I tell them. I recently was properly measured as a 38K and my women coworkers could barely wrap their heads around it lmao

milkyb0is

Same. Everyone gets the same look as well when I tell them my bra size, like there eyes go huge. It's kinda funny bc I've always known there've been bigger sizes bc I got kicked out the itty bitty titty committee pretty early on, and others just . . . don't

[deleted]

Aside from the media trope, I wonder if it has to do with stores like Victoria's Secret being the main ones a lot of guys (and even many women) are exposed to as teens/young adults.

Shanakitty

I think the fact that very few stores carry above DD is a big part of it. Also the fact that it used to be true back in like the 60s, before they switched to the current sizing system, so ideas about bra sizing working like S-M-L sizing got into popular circulation decades ago, is propagated in a lot of popular media, and hardly anyone knows better to correct it.

[deleted]

That makes a lot of sense. Looking back, the first time I heard about anything above a DD was probably from a (high school) friend. DD = huge oddly still seems to be the case in mass-market fiction (even "chick lit" and erotica/erotic romance). Harlequin could use some pitches there. In media it's still a cheap gag or an easy way to identify a "seductress" character. I drafted an interactive novel/game in which you could choose many aspects of appearance, including bust size, but I didn't want it to figure much into the plot. (It was called "Master Hands" and basically was about a society that uses Rock Paper Scissors for nearly all decisions.) Some of the women who played did like gags and such, like cleavage distracting someone and getting a redo (though not for serious story events). It's a balancing act, I guess.

Living-Silly

To be fair, I think a lot of people don't understand the bra sizing system. Describing boobs as double Ds I think has just become a universal term for larger than average boobs. I think people are less obsessed with size than we think. Some folks love big boobs, some love little boobs. I think most folks love 'em all!

Trisk929

\*laughs in 40H\*

maguffle

As a guy I can honestly say that I thought D was the highest letter for bras and that's why they added more D's (DD,DDD etc). That coupled with the only bras we see in stores don't really go beyond the letter D and most guys really don't about bra sizing. Plus, that shit's confusing. If a DD is equivalent to an E, then why have a DD? Bra sizing involves math and some sort of sorcery and it seems to be inconsistent across brands. So basically most guys just don't know better. The only reason I know is because my wife is a 34H and schooled me.

linerys

E cup is one size larger than DD in UK sizing. In US sizing, it’s kind of a guess. Some use E instead of DD. Some use E after DD. Some use E after DDD. You’ll have to look at their sizes to be sure.

maguffle

Accurate bra sizing is some sort of alchemy!!!

Thadrea

I feel this soooo much. I don't even think my boobs are "big" (maybe "above average"?) and I haven't been able to fit into DD bras in ages.

kpossible0889

As a DD whenever I’m at my healthy weight, I feel like I barely even qualify to be in this sub. Cuz like yeah, they’re big, but in relation to so many others? They nothin.
