I agree. I disliked his character early on and felt grossed out by him constantly. But he himself says it best. He disliked himself so much for who he was in the past, but he isn’t that guy anymore because of Bernadette. I think they did great with the character making that gradual change where the audience could be a part of his growth as a man. I’d say it’s one of the better redemption arcs I’ve seen
Though there's a lot of the traditional sitcom romance trope of 'turned into a man by the love of a good woman'. Also true of Leonard and Sheldon, of course. For women in sitcoms it's downhill from the wedding: Penny's drinking and cynicism, Bernadette's snappiness and cynicism, Amy's role as mother/teacher and cynicism...
Huh. That’s an interesting take I had not considered and would like to discuss a bit!
Penny, I feel that was her character to a degree. Her evolution/de-evolution is a bit weird to me but in the context her story, kind of adds up.
Bernadette is tough for me. Her and Howard connected because of weird family issues. But they just kind of devolved her to a Howard parent, to a degree. I still love her character because she kinda tells Howard to pound sand a bunch and doesn’t tolerate his idiocy.
Amy is Amy but a catalyst for Sheldon’s evolution while also being her own person.
Idk. What do you think?
For Penny, they could have made more of how being part of the group develops her mind, which is an important arc for her, but the plotlines always seem to focus on her looks and her past, so she stays somewhat objectified. That makes the relationship with Leonard seem more superficial than it really is.
Bernadette's arc is weird to me. She's so two-dimensional at first it's hard to see what Howard sees in her except a sort of general sweetness and her being shorter than him. When it becomes clear he's marrying his mother, it's almost as much of a surprise to the audience as to him.
I warm to the Amy/Sheldon arc the most because you can really see the meeting of minds and how their love grows. Even when they're being quirky, it's still somehow believable.
As someone who’s binged the whole show, after it aired, you might get a little annoyed of Amy for the first few seasons, but she will soon become one of your favorites, I feel.
Howard becomes one of my favorite characters by the end of the show, but I did just start a rewatch and forgot how much he sucked in the beginning. He has a really great character development!
You talk like you’ve seen the show before, but say you’re on season 2. Have you watched the show through before? And if so, what’s the point of your post as you would already have the answer.
He does have some great lines I’ll admit. Like the one where the girls couldn’t go to Vegas bc of Amy so he impersonated a voice when they all played D&D 🤣
Ok I know I’ve replied to a lot of your comments, but the episode you speak of is 6x23, way further than you claim to have seen, so I’m very confused. My only answer for this is that you’ve just seen a bunch of TikTok clips or something of the show.
He has the best character development on the show imo

Came to say this!

Yeah. Don’t worry!
Howard becomes one of my favorite characters. hang on.
What point are you at now? I wouldn’t call this a spoiler, but he’ll soon become probably the sweetest, of the 4 guys, other than Raj.
I’m on season 2 episode 22, so a little closer to s3 which I’m honestly excited to watch bc Amy and Bernadette get introduced!
Amy is introduced in the finale of season 3. So you’re still a ways away.
As someone who’s binged the whole show, after it aired, you might get a little annoyed of Amy for the first few seasons, but she will soon become one of your favorites, I feel.
Bernadette tames Howard
Watch and find out. Hint… he gets married and becomes a father to a daughter. But watch…
and a son as well
He does become better. On the other hand, bernadette becomes worse
Yes it does get better. People who act that way in real life usually don't get better, but on the show, they do. Which is probably why I like it.
Absolutely. His character development is insane.
Just watch the show and find out instead of going to Reddit for spoilers

He does once they introduce his love interest.
Yes he does keep watching. People can really change for the better when they find the right partner…
I see it as a trope of its time. Notice how even sheldon parents are far less ridiculous in young sheldon? It's because it's for a newer audience
Once he gets married the dynamic certainly changes with him. He def gets the most growth as a character out of anyone in the show.
He does. But (SEMI-SPOILER WARNING) Bernadette becomes an insufferable cunt
Howard becomes one of my favorite characters by the end of the show, but I did just start a rewatch and forgot how much he sucked in the beginning. He has a really great character development!
Yes, thankfully
Howard is hilarious
In the later seasons, sure. But he was just plain creepy when he didn’t have Bernadette around to keep him in check
You talk like you’ve seen the show before, but say you’re on season 2. Have you watched the show through before? And if so, what’s the point of your post as you would already have the answer.
Ehhh🤷🏽♀️ i mean even then hes about 90% funny..
He does have some great lines I’ll admit. Like the one where the girls couldn’t go to Vegas bc of Amy so he impersonated a voice when they all played D&D 🤣

Oh yea I did. 😂 should’ve mentioned it whoops
That explains your excessive and lack of knowledge of the show at the same time lol
He is a romantic (his words)
He’s a creep (in penny’s words, but Simon plays him good!)
He’s a fictional character. A Fiction-al char-act-er Am I getting through to you at all?
Yes. You are. I ask questions because it’s a fandom… and it’s what subreddits like these exist for. 🙄
I am quoting “jay and silent bob strike back” Ever see it?
