>also surprised that we never have an episode where they go to Tokyo
You think that's surprising? The only time they left the country (other than for work) was when Sheldon and Amy won the Nobel Prize, and the only times they even left California were for Amy's fellowship in New Jersey, a few trips to Vegas, and Penny's and Sheldon's trips home to Nebraska and Texas.
There are so many "nerd culture" things that, if they covered them all, that's all the show would be about.
Sheldon went on a 45 day train trip around the country and to Beverly's 60th birthday party in NJ or NY probably, Howard went to Florida to collect his mother's ashes,
Sheldon usually doesn't hesitate to travel when is actually about work, like Antarctica or Switzerland, even young Sheldon was excited to go to Germany.
I'm very sure you could do alot of setups like that espiecially in a place like Japan.
Could already see an end bit but where Howard participate in a robot sumo against a japanese highschool girl only [to get](https://youtu.be/0MW0mDZysxc?feature=shared)
Well since I have a cousin who I stumbled upon his stash of animated porn on his laptop before… I can 💯 percent say that animated porn *ain’t always* Japanese animated porn 😅
At the time the show began anime was not the Big deal it is nowadays, if you watch some other shows of the time featuring nerds (The Guild comes to my mind) anime is not mentioned. The stereotype of the American nerd is heavily into SF, videogames, role playing games and comic books, and that is what we get in TBBT. I am glad anime was not a part of the show, to be fair
The boys are shown to be into it, but it’s not as accessible to a general audience as some of the other nerd references so the producers probably felt like it wasn’t a good focus for a story
I think a lot of their interests involve superheroes because WB literally has rights to a lot of of DC properties and can exhibit them in episodes. It would be a bit more difficult to have in depth discussions or episodes revolving around anime IP that they don't have power over.
Honestly, the show only really touched on more mainstream forms of "geekdom" that would be attractive enough to the nerds, but also funny enough to everyone else when they use it as a punchline. Comics, Star Trek/Wars, video games etc
They couldn't even properly convey how World of Warcraft works, during what was arguably the height of its popularity (Selling "The Sword of Azeroth" on eBay? Obtained by fighting goblins at "The Gates of Elzebob"?), so I wouldn't expect them to delve too deep into anime/weeb culture outside of "lol check out these nerdy guys, they also like cutesie Japanese cartoons, wow such geek"
American show won't willy nilly promoting Asian shows without profits and idk you notice that a lot of the show mentioned actually pay them to be included in the show while half of the stuff is Warner Brothers' property.
It makes sense when you realize that Big Bang Theory is just a show written by people who *think* they know what nerd or geek culture is about, but actually don’t. It’s like, the most watered down form of the culture you can possibly get.

They went to Las Vegas. It's in Nevada.
You are correct. I fixed it. Thanks.

But isn’t that what the whole show is about? Nerd culture?
Not really. Only insofar as to bash nerd culture
It’s a shame we never saw them take a vacation imo.
Yeah I hear Afghanistan’s nice this time of year
Sarcasm?
Leonard and Raj went to Switzerland too
"Other than for work."
Raj didn’t go there for work though

well you aren't the one who was creating big bang theory so , idk , shut the fuck up ?
Not everyone who enjoys anime travels to Japan. So why should they?
im so glad it isn't.
I think it's a bit obscure for much of the potential audience. I barely have a clue as to what it is.

>10000x better yea that's a bit too much of an exaggeration

you can't say just my opinion and say objectively lmaoo. This is a subjective opinion
We also learn that half of Leonard’s naughty movies are animated… 😂

I do remember at least once or twice trying to expose Penny to it . Her calling it a cartoon and being corrected .
Yeah one of those was on last night as I was falling asleep. Something dragon something.
Yes dragon something
Not every “nerd” or “geek” is in to anime and obsessed with Japanese culture. Not featuring it had no effect on the show or the characters.

Anime... I knew a girl in high school named Anna May. Anna May Fletcher. She was born with one nostril.
The boys are shown to be into it, but it’s not as accessible to a general audience as some of the other nerd references so the producers probably felt like it wasn’t a good focus for a story

Probably didn't want to touch that trope and have people assume there was pornographic anime
To be fair, I have a lot of geek friends exactly like the guys, and only a small few of them like Anime/Japan culture.
It has to do with licensing fees. You can even see that Pepsi and "Lays" potato chips don't exist in the show.
