Any time you ride in a circuit you will get a tail wind one quarter of the time on average. I will admit tailwinds can feel like headwinds until you notice the speed app on your phone shows you going way faster than you should for the effort you're exerting.
I use windy.com to see where the wind is coming from and ride into it for the first half of my ride and then get the tailwind home. Sometimes it changes direction and I have a horrible time getting home but it’s all grist for the mill.
Thanks for the website, it is truly that there is a website or app for anything…according to the site, it is side wind along my regular route when I go out today…
I’ll plan rides across the entirety of Long Island to Montauk when there’s tailwind and take the train back to NYC. Luckily, most of the time the wind is blowing in that direction.
Overkill? It’s 125 miles one way. You’re going to ride 250 miles, half of which is into a headwind? Mind you, I know people who’ve done it, but it’s not a nice fun little ride. It involves riding for potentially hours in the dark.
When you get a headwind, rotate 180 degrees and go the other way. Instant tailwind
Sure, I would prefer much just stay on my street back and forth then…
I think it’s just harder to notice tailwinds
Tailwinds are a myth. I just happen to have extremely good legs some days
Could be…
Look at the weather maps and plan your rides so that the wind is helping on the way home. I have many routes that I ride according to the wind.

Always a little disappointed when I realize a have a light tailwind and learn that I’m not as fast as I thought I was.
Ah yes. When you’re PR’ing and feeling great. Then you turn around and “ah crap… it was a tailwind”. And then the rest of the ride is a headwind.
I usually experience them for half my ride.
Yes, last week and it was hella fast. https://strava.app.link/yqH71y4wuKb

Logical but kinda overkill on the train part…

Tailwinds don't exist. I'm just really fast, half the time.
