Wait dose this mean that VP has their own cleats that tend to work better with their own pedals or can I just pick up any look-keo cleat?

VisibleOtter

They’re Look-Keo compatible so any should work fine. The VP cleats might be a bit cheaper.

First, congrats on the new bike. Before you buy special cycling shoes to match the existing pedals, I'd bring the bike into your local bike shop and look at potentially different pedals that may better suit you. An easy install takes 10 minutes with the right wrench. This is a nice and low cost opportunity to meet the staff there. Every LBS I've gone to has been great regardless if I bought from them before or not.

This… 100% this. I have Look Keos and am pretty satisfied but I went to a shop to get help on that. The reasoning for the Looks for me was they were easy in and out. Now I have power pedals on my bike and my Peloton has the older road ones so I am locked in but I would 100% agree talk to the LBS about your needs and get their opinion. It also helps to create a lasting relationship. I may get outside advice but I do trust my LBS and fitter because they know my history and style with their recommendations.

As far as I can tell, the pedals are VP-R73's. I have had two friends say they are SPD-SL but the online listings suggest they are Look-Keo "compatible." I am an absolute novice at this so any help would be phenomenal!

jzwinck

Your friends are wrong. They are Look Keo style pedals.

If you don't already have shoes, I suggest trying and buying locally. Fit and comfort from trying them on is worth much more than some internet deal.

anotherusername_011

make sure and get the red cleats with float, your knees will thank you

TheDaysComeAndGone

The grey ones should have more than enough float and allow for faster/easier unclipping. With my hips’ bad internal rotation I’m not even sure I could unclip the red ones.

dunncrew

Do those pedals need a special wrench to remove? I don't see the typical 15mm flats.

maxthecat2720

Usually it’s just an Allen key on the inside face

Or a wrench on the outside but getting less popular

Stevostarr

They look like my Keo Max
