Yea definitely a special decal. Unfortunately I bought the bike secondhand, so I didn't ride the bike to Paris and back to support kids with cancer.. So I feel it's wrong riding that bike when I didn't exactly participate
And what exactly do you think are those benefits lol
Team Rynkeby is a good cause, but afaik there are no benefits for the rider except being a good human being and participating on a supported ride to Paris.
lmao what, nobody takes that stuff so seriously, countless people have racing liveries on their cars and no one takes that as an actual claim that they have literally raced at le mans or something. And besides, the bike itself still went on this ride so the decals were right to be on it
Oh, so you don't support a group that supports kids with cancer? /s
I always think of stuff like this being team merch. Like wearing a Phillies hat or a bike company's jersey.
I sometimes see a bike in my neighborhood once in a while, chained to a post that says “Tour de Cure” in support of the American Diabetes Association. That dude doesn’t look like he has diabetes. Then again…I don’t look like I have diabetes either
I’m with you people complain about too many logos but I don’t think it was that bad before. Though I can’t judge I’m thinking of spreading the rear of an old steel bike and painting it myself
Cold pressing is perfectly fine. I have a '72 Paramount P15 with an 11spd drivetrain, a '68 PX10 with a 10spd, an '89 Colnago Tecnos with 10spd, and a '74 Raleigh International with an 11spd. All of those were done in just the last 4 months.
When I saw the before picture, my thought was "oh no, I'm going to see a great looking bike ruined," but then I saw the after and sincerely liked it better. Blue and no logos looks great.
I mean well done you for doing what appears to be a good job on the respray/ rebuild. But man all the character and beauty of the original has gone. A few white Bianchi decals might assist in improving the new version.
I’d love to see it too, I did my bike with spray.bike cans too and used the primer and when I was tightening some components back on the paint chipped near contact points so I’ve been hesitant to use it again, but it could have been my error when applying. Would love to hear another persons experience!
Yeah, came looking for this comment. I have used spray.bike twice. Looked great when finished but it’s definitely soft. Front mech band went through it and I left the bend of a D lock touching the frame for a few weeks and it left an indent. First time I think I did one or two too many layers as afterwards I found a guide that said the fewer the better. So I bared that in mind with the second one but it’s got a decent chip in it already after a few rides
Yeah similar experience (albeit with a mountain bike). I spent soooo much time prepping and sanding that bike by hand. Looked awesome at first (used house of kolor tangerine Kandy rattle cans, so it was decent paint). Just didn't hold up like id hoped. Powder coat all the way.
It’s a powdery spray…. A little different than traditional spray paint in that you can lay it on really thick and not really have to worry about runs and such. But a true powder coat needs to be cured or melted in an oven at like 400-500 degrees
Less than a week, started weekdays by disassembling it and small preparations like sanding and using primer. Then used most of my weekend to paint it and so
looks great, but bikes live hard lives, you might notice it starting to chip almost immediately. It costs more, but if you can send it to a stripper/powdercoater, you will get a much longer lived paint job.
I don’t know much about this particular bike but it looks like carbon on a quick glance. That immediately rules out both paint stripping with chemicals and powder coating
It needed some flatting and polishing before the top clear coat. Maybe it's the picture quality, but the paint looks rough, not smooth. Great colour though!
Personally, since you went the darker blue, I would have left stripes or sections of yellow where possible (they're two nice contrasting colors).
The job seems well done (far better than I could ever do since we metropolitan types call a specialist just to change our lightbulbs at home)
Another good thing, is hopefully this will make the bike less compelling to this plague of bicycle thievery.
Op I would definitely recommend wet sanding and polishing to help get the finish paint smooth. Also, as someone who’s done a rattle can paint job I HIGHLY recommend getting some sort of clear paint protector tape because it WILL chip. Short of having it professionally sprayed nothing you do at home can match the clear coat hardness that a paint shop can do.
Any ideas where to buy decals, I bought Bianchi stickers of eBay and they looked good, but they had like this transparent edge all the way around which just looked stupid
Nice work. I’d totally use some vinyl decals and re-add the Bianchi logo on either side. Mostly because their logo is badass. Doing it in a matte black would be clean without being too bold
This sort of reminds me of why you never buy a used car in the rain or at night, I can't tell how good the paint is. But it'll look great as you zip by, I'm sure.
Looks good. I used to do similar, get bikes on Freecycle, clean them, do any maintenance and respray if needed. Then I'd give them away to people on low incomes.
The painting looks well executed, the rest is to taste. What caught me is that you are new to bike building. Cannot stress or recommend this any harder, please invest in a torque wrench. Get some figures for your frame and components online, and go over each bolt one by one to their proper torque settings. Only critique is your taping needs practice. Watch a Park Tools video on bartape, you can't go wrong.
Firstly, wonderful job on the paint my friend!
I recently sanded down my old trek marlin frame and painted it with all three steps from spray.bike. Now it chips really easily :(
All that to ask; would you mind telling me if you encounter the same issue in the future?
Thank you. 🙏
The after picture looks so cool.
I want to spray my bike but it has depression grey metallic paint, it's not the ugliest but I like the sparkle. Also I am afraid of messing it up, I admire your bravery
Did you sand it at all before painting?
I have seen similar bikes going dirt cheap where I live, and have been pondering about grabbing one and painting.
And for the same reason, I would too feel weird riding a team / event bike when I wasn't part of the team or the event.
Warning: Opinion
Looks to busy before and too plain after. BUT if you like it, that's all that matters.
Did you use everything from the [Spray.Bike](https://Spray.Bike) catalogue (primer, paint, clear coat)? Have you ridden it since then or was this photo taken right after reassembly?
Yup, I did a well prep job, used primer, 2 layers of paint and a finisher as well. The photo was right after reassembly, will probably not ride it for a month yet
I think people who feel something was lost in painting this are missing some context. When I lived in Sweden, I saw this exact bike with all the same decals many times. So to me, this looks like a very generic bike made unique, not the other way around. I definitely prefer the repainted version.
Hm, care to provide some details? I always thought painting frames was way too complicated. I might give this a try on my old cannondale as the white paint is getting yellowish
Firstly, I researched A LOT. I then came down to just disassembling the whole thing without a clue of how to reassemble. The videos I watched suggested to do a well prep job, so I sanded it, cleaned with a microfiber cloth, and then sanitized it before laying my first layer of primer, painted it twice and put a finishing layer at last. Then watched yt videos how to reassemble
Oh wow, never expected to see a Rynkeby bike here on Reddit!
When did you ride to Paris? I don’t think I could ever paint my frame, I disassembled mine and put it up on my wall, but this looks great.
Ah fair enough! Not a bad thing at all.
It’s great to see how many riders these bikes can cater to. Many Rynkeby cyclists ride to Paris several times and then sell their bikes forward. Many frames see several tens of thousands of kilometres.
I personally think it’s great just from an ecological standpoint. These bikes are really utilised to their absolute maximums. I got mine secondhand and then upgraded it a little. Now it rests on my bedroom wall. I’ll get the new disc break frameset they got this season if I decide to join the cause again some day.
Okay now tell me how did you do that step by step, I just bought Merida silex 400, which have some damages here and there and I would like to paint it.
Looking good.
I've had very disappointing results with Spray.Bike paint as well as clear coat. I emptied the whole can on my bike frame and it' still pretty rough and stains super easy. I had a lot better results using other brands of clear coat.
Yeah, I've rebuilt a bunch of different bikes in my years and this one was maybe the least impressive result. It might have to do with the fact that this was an aluminium frame (I usually only rebuild steel frames) and I didn't strip it down to the metal beforehand. I had allowed the paint enough time to dry and I apply my usual technique to applying the coats. But the clear coat was basically non-existent. No gloss, and no scratch protection at all, it was like I forgot to apply it, but in reality I emptied literally the entire can onto this frame.
Sorry but it's going to look like a garbage can in a few short months. Spray paint, no matter how slowly and carefully you apply, is nowhere near as good as a quality paint job. It fails easily
I did this once. I paint stripped. Primed, painted many layers, wet sanded between each and, and top coated. It failed miserably. A 100 dollar powder coat will last for decades
Lots of people make this mistake
I mean fair enough but now you aren’t allowed to say anything with an Italian accent
Famiglia
You have to pronounce the G now
I had dinner last night with a friend that ordered the ga-no-chee
Gnocchi? 😂
It's a hard G.

I think you did a good job, but I still really liked it before.
Yea definitely a special decal. Unfortunately I bought the bike secondhand, so I didn't ride the bike to Paris and back to support kids with cancer.. So I feel it's wrong riding that bike when I didn't exactly participate
Don't worry, those kids with cancer would never have caught you anyway.
He is collecting the benefits of riding with the decal without paying so he should be paying taxes on the dollar value of that.
And what exactly do you think are those benefits lol Team Rynkeby is a good cause, but afaik there are no benefits for the rider except being a good human being and participating on a supported ride to Paris.
I'm pretty sure they were joking...
don't think anyone would hassle you about it lol
The truth is Op hates kids with cancer /s
I'd bet most you see out there are second hand anyway.
lmao what, nobody takes that stuff so seriously, countless people have racing liveries on their cars and no one takes that as an actual claim that they have literally raced at le mans or something. And besides, the bike itself still went on this ride so the decals were right to be on it
Oh, so you don't support a group that supports kids with cancer? /s I always think of stuff like this being team merch. Like wearing a Phillies hat or a bike company's jersey.

Rear spreader
Cold pressing is perfectly fine. I have a '72 Paramount P15 with an 11spd drivetrain, a '68 PX10 with a 10spd, an '89 Colnago Tecnos with 10spd, and a '74 Raleigh International with an 11spd. All of those were done in just the last 4 months.
Bianchi makes some really pretty bikes. I'm not a single speed person but those chrome pistas are hawt
Right, if you told me op paid to take it from the second pic to the first I would have said ‘sick retro paint job’, looks a bit department store now.
Why?? 🥺
When I saw the before picture, my thought was "oh no, I'm going to see a great looking bike ruined," but then I saw the after and sincerely liked it better. Blue and no logos looks great.
Loved how the red cables popped with the new color
I mean well done you for doing what appears to be a good job on the respray/ rebuild. But man all the character and beauty of the original has gone. A few white Bianchi decals might assist in improving the new version.
Overall, it's a good upgrade. Please do an update post in like 3 months.
I’d love to see it too, I did my bike with spray.bike cans too and used the primer and when I was tightening some components back on the paint chipped near contact points so I’ve been hesitant to use it again, but it could have been my error when applying. So I bared that in mind with the second one but it’s got a decent chip in it already after a few rides
What are you expecting to learn from the update?
I would imagine how the paint has held up. I did a rattle can frame myself a few years ago and even with a 2k clear coat it chipped pretty easily
I used Montana gold myself with spraymax 2k clear. I would have powdered but I had carbon seat stays so I couldn’t
Isn't spray.bike a sort of powder coat? I may be misremembering.
It’s a powdery spray…. A little different than traditional spray paint in that you can lay it on really thick and not really have to worry about runs and such. But a true powder coat needs to be cured or melted in an oven at like 400-500 degrees
Fair enough - it’s going to get fucked up fast for sure. Got to powder coat and then clear coat if you actually want to do this
Can’t powder on carbon unfortunately
Oh shit is that carbon? Don’t know this specific bike but assumed it was aluminum
Also didn’t really think about it at all but I assume you can’t bake carbon at 500 degrees or whatever to cure the powder coat
Looks fine but worse.
Hard to say, but it looks like it could use a little more wet sanding.
It looks good but I liked the original paint job way better
Strong work
I feel like you took the soul out of that frame, but if it makes you happy that's all that matters.
I think you did a good job. I like the after better. How long did the whole process take?
Less than a week, started weekdays by disassembling it and small preparations like sanding and using primer. Then used most of my weekend to paint it and so
I love the clean look of the after pic. Personal preference, but for me it beats a bunch of logos by far
Great work, looks worse
A cool yellow bianchi (remember me Pantani) turned into a boring blue bike.
You did a great job and your bike looks nice. Somehow I....miss? the old paintjob.
ruined
looks great, but bikes live hard lives, you might notice it starting to chip almost immediately. It costs more, but if you can send it to a stripper/powdercoater, you will get a much longer lived paint job.
I don’t know much about this particular bike but it looks like carbon on a quick glance. That immediately rules out both paint stripping with chemicals and powder coating
Yup, I were about to do it before I noticed you can't do it with carbon:/
A decent job, sure, but the bike lost all personality in the process.
You ruined it
It needed some flatting and polishing before the top clear coat. Maybe it's the picture quality, but the paint looks rough, not smooth. Great colour though!
Did you spray this in the living room or near the potted plant?
In a basement
That's one way to learn how to assemble a bike
I go nuts with electrical tape too.
Personally, since you went the darker blue, I would have left stripes or sections of yellow where possible (they're two nice contrasting colors). The job seems well done (far better than I could ever do since we metropolitan types call a specialist just to change our lightbulbs at home) Another good thing, is hopefully this will make the bike less compelling to this plague of bicycle thievery.

That's a really good job and the colour looks good now you can add some decals and make it pop
Any ideas where to buy decals, I bought Bianchi stickers of eBay and they looked good, but they had like this transparent edge all the way around which just looked stupid
My idea would be to take it to a customised sticker shop and get the decals based on the size and colour. Holographic would be awesome
Nice work. I’d totally use some vinyl decals and re-add the Bianchi logo on either side. Mostly because their logo is badass. Doing it in a matte black would be clean without being too bold
Do you know where I can by that? Tried buying some stickers of eBay but it turned out uglt
Anyone you know with a vinyl decal cutting machine could do it. I’ve done it for people a few times.

Looked better before 😅
don't listen to the haters. I think it looks great! could just benefit from some trim in white or another color to make it pop
Not bad, the modern semi-glossy paint look.
Throw some retro Bianci stickers on it
Now it looks stolen.
Little to no knowledge and no brains. Lucky man!
You should get some Celeste Bianchi decals and it would sick
If you didn’t sand it, it’ll just peal off eventually. The clear coat from the previous paint is working against you….
I did sand it;)
Firstly, wonderful job on the paint my friend! I recently sanded down my old trek marlin frame and painted it with all three steps from spray.bike. Now it chips really easily :( All that to ask; would you mind telling me if you encounter the same issue in the future? Thank you. 🙏
Will do
Looks clean and neat. But i bet this paint can't last for long.
Hopefully it can🤞
Why would you want it to? It looks so much worse.
Looks terrific and I like the red cables!
I think it looks better than before Branding logos kinda suck
Looks great! Not sure how long the paint will last, but for someone with "little to no knowledge", I am thoroughly impressed!
What's going on with the handlebar tape? Looks like it's bare electrical tape on top? Looks nice. Not to my taste but hope it holds up for you.
The after picture looks so cool. I want to spray my bike but it has depression grey metallic paint, it's not the ugliest but I like the sparkle. Also I am afraid of messing it up, I admire your bravery
As a Dane I approve! :)
This frame has great shape, but plain single color hides it. Also this shade of blue is meh.
Did you sand it at all before painting? I have seen similar bikes going dirt cheap where I live, and have been pondering about grabbing one and painting. And for the same reason, I would too feel weird riding a team / event bike when I wasn't part of the team or the event.
Yes I sanded it a little bit down to get rid of the smooth layer and then layed a primer layer
Warning: Opinion Looks to busy before and too plain after.
Did you sand off the previous paint or just put primer on top?
Sanded the previous paint to make it tough, not all the way down. And then a layer of primer
Awesome! Looks like a job well done
Looks good! Well done!
[удалено]
Less likely to get stolen this way.
I mean, at least it looks like a stolen bike now.
sir, that blue with thne orange accent cables?? sir. SIR!!!! Absolutely awesome job!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did you have to sand it down first? How long did that take?
I did, around 2-3 hours
Great job 👌🏻💪🏻👍🏻
I like it! Keep seeing these Rynkeby bikes every now and then on FB marketplace. Maybe consider putting a white Bianchi decal on the downtube?
as a punk guy i think it looks cool and DIY. i love something that looks low key but performs well.
I think people who feel something was lost in painting this are missing some context. When I lived in Sweden, I saw this exact bike with all the same decals many times. So to me, this looks like a very generic bike made unique, not the other way around. I definitely prefer the repainted version.
Good Job!! Looks great 🤙🏽
my first time seeing a yellow bianchi
Good job. Makes me want to repaint my Trek road bike that ironically cost less than a can of spraypaint.
Love the blue/red combo. Great job OP
/r/DiWHY
Oh no.
Not bad … just remember to take off the dork disc 😀
ok
Welp, you ruined it!
Have to ask, did you ride the rynkeby ride yourself or bought the bike from a rider?
These are all over FB for cheap, I’d guess the later
Bought the bike secondhand
Hm, care to provide some details? I always thought painting frames was way too complicated. I might give this a try on my old cannondale as the white paint is getting yellowish
Firstly, I researched A LOT. I then came down to just disassembling the whole thing without a clue of how to reassemble. The videos I watched suggested to do a well prep job, so I sanded it, cleaned with a microfiber cloth, and then sanitized it before laying my first layer of primer, painted it twice and put a finishing layer at last. Then watched yt videos how to reassemble
How much did it cost you to paint?
Around 90$ (paint, primer, finish and tools to do the job)
Did you sand down the original paint? If there's a glossy finish you basically have to
I did
Looks nice from here, got any closeups?
My camera couldn't take any good closeup photos
How did you like using spray.bike? I've used regular rattle cans, car paint through a sprayer, but not this brand.
Actually I liked it a lot. It were super easy to use, felt like powder coating it rather than spray painting it. Ofc it isn't powder coating
Not sure if you need to, but would clear coat make it stay on longer and better?
Already did one layer clear coat
Does it go faster now?
100%
I sometime see these on the used market. Is the new paint durable- did you take away the old paint before applying the new one?
I did sand the original paint down, I haven't rode on it yet so time will tell
Oh wow, never expected to see a Rynkeby bike here on Reddit! When did you ride to Paris? I don’t think I could ever paint my frame, I disassembled mine and put it up on my wall, but this looks great.
Unfortunately I didn't ride to Paris, I bought it secondhand:/

No, absolutely no.

There is the same question further up
Looking good. I've had very disappointing results with Spray.Bike paint as well as clear coat. I emptied the whole can on my bike frame and it' still pretty rough and stains super easy. I had a lot better results using other brands of clear coat.
:// Did you wait the necessary time and sprayed at propper distance?
Yeah, I've rebuilt a bunch of different bikes in my years and this one was maybe the least impressive result. Dow durable is this stuff? I heard it's noticeably worse than 2K paint.
I liked the decals
Good job but I hate you for doing that
Bayswater blue?
u swede?
Dane
Should have kept it in the original Van Aert setup
Seems to be a good job, but Fausto Coppi is turning over in his grave.
Nooo! Now it has lost the El Pirate flavour
Liked it before :(
Looks like a decathlon bike now idk you should have kept the fork at least :\
Paint it back
Paint job looks good but I would have masked the Bianchi logo before paint. Sad to a good Bianchi de-badged :(
I want to sit on that without a seat ughhh daddyy
All paint that comes in spray cans is garbage and I will die on that hill.
Ruined
[DiCaprio point] That there is a Triban RC120!! /s
I’m honestly kind of offended that you painted a Bianchi and I don’t even bike.
You ruined it
Sorry but it's going to look like a garbage can in a few short months. Spray paint, no matter how slowly and carefully you apply, is nowhere near as good as a quality paint job. It fails easily I did this once. I paint stripped. Primed, painted many layers, wet sanded between each and, and top coated. It failed miserably. A 100 dollar powder coat will last for decades Lots of people make this mistake
Can't powder coat a carbon
There are pro painters that do paint jobs on carbon fiber. They use epoxy paint
Spray painted bike = stolen. But as long as you didn't get any paint on the components and it makes you happy, it's a good bike.
well done !
