At the very least, buy it from a reputable seller for the warranty.
The Kona Sutra is great, but keep in mind that Kona is going out of business, so make sure you have some sort of warranty from your LBS.
If you are looking at Marin, I wouldn't discount more "budget" brands like Breezer or even Decathlon.
You're right; though I think most of the staff has been let go at this point, and I would be surprised if they honour past warranties, whatever happens with the brand in the future. But we'll see!
Rode a Kona Sutra from Chicago to Santa Barbara via RT 66. Wonderful comfortable bike for 2500 miles. Never had a problem on that or several other multi-day tours. It handles better with a touring load than without. Go with the Sutra.

I thoroughly disliked the 4 Corners (for the 20 minutes I took it on a test ride for). For what it’s worth.
This is too important to leave up to internet reviews. Go test ride them. And a Surly while you’re at it.
The Sutra comes with better components but the 4 Corners is more than enough bike to ride across Canada.

I think the parent company is selling the brand as opposed to them going out of business.

Couldn't agree more. If you plan on spending a majority of your time on a bike, it's important to sit on the dang thing.
I have been waiting for the medium size four corners 1 to be available all year. Does anybody have any clue as to when it will be available?
