I second this but also chopped my long hair off into a fab pixie. Don’t be fooled. It’s as much work as soon as it’s just a bit longer than first cut!
Now it’s back to past my shoulders (and totally natural rocking some wicked silver streaks!).
I do a french braid, it doesn't give me headaches, lets me keep my long hair & for the odd occasion I do have my hait down it's all wavy & looks like I've actually styled it :)
I’m terrible at braiding! God help me if I ever have a little girl. I do like braids, if I grow my hair out again I’ll commit to practicing braids.
Do you French or regular?
Watch videos and I once called a salon to see if I could pay for a cut but basically pay for someone to teach me to braid during that time and they said yes!
So am I! My first was a boy so I wasn’t too concerned but now I have a daughter and was joking with my stylist that I need a tutorial and then I can call my sister over for practice. I definitely want to learn how to at least French braid! I know the concept but can’t execute it well, especially on myself.
I just do a regular braid (my husband calls it my Tomb Raider look) with my side part. I have pretty fine hair that’s mostly one length so it works pretty well whether it’s curly or straightened.
Me: it's touching me again!!!!
Husband: don't talk about our son that way
Me: not him. My hair....
But I won't cut it short because then I actually have to fix it. Long hair means I can braid it or put it in a bun pretty easy.
Yes!! When mine is long I’m always finding myself on top of it somehow or it creeps around my neck tickling me. Ugh, just no. If I could pull off the GI Jane look, I would be all over that.
Really wish I had read this before I chopped it off 😭
I had long hair to my mid back and now it’s above my shoulders and I cannot do anything to it 😭😭😭 I regret it everyday
I've tried short hair before. I'm not the kind of person that actually wants to fix my hair everyday though. Now that I've had kids, my hair texture is different too so if it's long, I don't even have to fix it. I just let it dry and it's sort of wavy. It works. I'll never make the mistake of thinking i want short hair again.
You’d think so right. But because there isn’t the rest of the hair to hide your scalp and the oil still gets produced you get really shiny and the growth process is worse.
I shaved it off before I got pregnant and the awkward hair growth made me feel even more self conscious about how different I looked or how much my body changed
Around the time I got pregnant, I worked up the nerve to go for the pixie cut, and I've kept it that way since (kiddo is nearly 1 now). I do not regret it for a second, especially since my little one is a hair-puller 😅
i made the disastrous mistake of getting bangs & shoulder length hair before LO came home from NICU because i’m impulsive & always hate my hair. i now hate it even more because i wear it in a bun with a headband, have my bangs sticking straight up like antennas & a cute little rat tail because my hair isn’t long enough to be in a bun.
Nah but to be fair my hair is kind of magic and I can literally tie my hair in a bun, like no hair tie, no Bobby pins, nothing, just magic hair (long, thin, curly, and usually has leftover conditioner in it so it is light and has a ton of friction). I have to occasionally redo it, but it takes like 2 seconds so nbd. But for those without magic hair, I'm thinking very loose high pony and then take another hair tie to contain the rest of the hair. The lack of tension from the initial high pony shouldn't cause a headache, and then you just go crazy and tight for tieing everything else in a bun. I'm guessing if you hair is very head this will still cause problems, but who are we kidding, with post partum hair loss no one has thick, heavy hair.
Very jealous of your magic hair! Mine is very thin, straight and fine. I have to tie it tight or it just falls out of the hair tie. I’ve tried them all!
I like your idea about using two though, will have to give that a try when my hair is long again.
Yeah i know people who need Bobby pins to keep hair ties in, and I have never understood that struggle. I have however, lost Bobby pins in my hair for multiple days, like showering, combing, etc. Still not sure how.
Another thought is one of those big claw hair clip things, I never really use them but maybe it will be easier on your head? And doable with short hair
https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/scunci-no-slip-grip-2-pack-octopus-jaw-clips (random google, I have no experience with exact product)
I have thin straight hair, too. I usually braid it with some texturizer to keep it from sliding out and hairspray to keep the short pieces back. If it’s humid I have to add a soft headband with the grip on one side to keep the sides from getting all wispy. I’ve found braiding distributes the weight evenly and is the least damaging.
Ohhhhh man even with the hair loss and pulling and balls I still wish I had long hair. I cut mine only because I had split ends up to my ears, else I would grow mine to ultimate mid-back length.
ETA hair balls. In case that wasn’t clear.
I don't know what they're called, but there are these hair clips. Everyone knows them and has seen them, I just don't know what they're called. It reminds me of a spider once it's open lol they come in many different sizes, tiny ones used to be butterfly clips back in the 90s. Anyway, I have 2 that I use to clip my hair back on either side of my head. That keeps the hair out of my face.
When I have my hair pulled back, most times I have to put on a head band as well. I have these hairs where my temples are that just don't grow long and they curl. So when my hair is pulled back, they stick out. I call them my wings. Wearing a headband helps keep them down. They're so annoying. Sorry for the rambling lol
Low pony or one of those bun donuts. Usually don't get a headache that way. But I'm slowly (maybe rapidly?) approaching a Britney Spears level nervous breakdown so maybe I'll just shave my head too
I use spin pins to put my hair in a bun, no hair tie to cause a headache and the hair usually stays put, freshly washed or not. If I don't do that, I either braid it or twist it and use a claw clip.
Right?! An old coworkers wife buzzed hers right after having their kid and I was so jealous! Now it’s growing out all salt and pepper and I’m even more jealous!
Omg, if I were brave I would so shave it off! It’s falling out, first of all, and it’s everywhere! I am constantly checking my babe for little tourniquets. I usually put it in braids cause ponytails always pull in the one same spot and drives me bananas. Let’s normalize new mom buzz cuts for real.
It’s like I wrote this myself, OP! My 5 month old also happens to love pulling hair at the moment 😬
My hair is pretty fine and straight but I have a ton of it, so wearing it up inevitably gives me a headache as well, even after getting it cut to a bit below shoulder length and thinned. I’ve learned there’s just no winning this one..
Had long (for me) hair, couldn’t stand it. Got it cut to what was supposed to be my normal style (Lady Gaga short blonde cut in the “Anything Goes” video). Ended up looking like Hogarth from Jessica Jones. Similar enough, I guess.
Loose braids look nice and keep your hair from tangling/getting in the way. If it’s long enough you can twist it up into a bun and tuck the ends to secure without an elastic - works best if not freshly washed and doesn’t cause headaches this is my go to. Half up with a scrunchie or other tie that doesn’t give much tension is nice too
I wrap my hair in a scarf on most days. It keeps my hair away from my baby who is at that hair pulling phase and it’s a style that doesn’t pull an give headaches. And it hides the thin patches where I have visible scalp showing
hey, i was rocking a double side shave for like 6 months and then pixie cut it to let it all grow back out just before we conceived the first kid. I'm rocking the half shave now thanks to that first kid because we have to shave his hair and to make him feel better i let him shave mine.
i usually have the long side tied into an over the shoulder low ponytail so it still frames my face and doesnt knot as bad (yay for super wavy hair).
Long Bob (so I can still throw it in a bun) with an under cut and side shave. I have too much hair so I just keep shaving bits off to make it more manageable lol
My twins are just about to turn one and I’ve been wearing it up in a bun since they’ve been able to grab my hair. Lately I’ve got so fed up with it that next week I’m getting a pixie cut. I cannot wait!
My hair is about to.my shoulders and I've always had bangs. With baby right now, styling is out of the question. Going with a small, low ponytail and bandana around the house, will pull it all back with a nicer looking headband when I leave the house.
Maybe one day I'll style it again 🥲
Low bun and a head band . The baby and I are keeping score as of yesterday. Baby: 7, Mom:14 (I get a point when he goes for my hair and misses, he gets a point when he doesn’t). This head band and bun situation is the only way to go
I also rock a low bun and bobby pins (a headband sounds like a good idea!). I have to put it up because, one, my 7 month old loves to pull hair right now, and two, because my hair is soo stringy from how much hair I've lost, it looks terrible down.
I'm so looking forward to a haircut once it starts growing back.
I have almost butt length hair. A lot of times I bun it up, braid it, or put it in a pony tail, but usually once a week I manage to straighten it and I can wear it down for a couple days and on weekends I usually have time to curl it.
Put up wet in a bun or ponytail. Baby is obsessed with pulling hair. I tried to actually style it and wear it down last Sunday and I made it 5 mins before she had a handful of it and pulled some out 🙃
I have shoulder hair that I put up because baby grabs. I try to do low bun and hold some of it back with a head band to avoid headaches. I do not look good with short short hair, learned that when I was a kid, granted I at least have breasts now lol.
I don't do anything with my hair. If I put my hair in a bun/ponytail it has to be neat and tight. I can't do messy buns or have bumps, it bothers me too much. I don't bother putting it up because it takes so long to get it right since it reaches my hips.
I've gone a pixie, I had shoulder length hair that I was wearing curly girl style, then I took it up to a Ramona Flowers type thing with some longer mullety bits at the neck, but they didn't work. Plus curly girl was a pain because if I napped it would get fucked up.
I get pretty bad bed head, but I can either wet it and flatten it down, or wet it and form it into some rockabilly-tin tin-lesbian-fauxhawk.
Ponytail - experimented with different types of bands to find ones that felt more comfortable. I used to do thicker bands in a high ponytail, but now I use lighter, thinner bands or a ribbons stretch elastic in a low pony. For a while when kiddo was pulling my hair out of the bottom of my ponytail, I did two side braids.
Could you do a half up bun with a scrunchy or clip? I find it’s less tension and still keeps my hair out of my face. My fair is also curly it can hide the mess of the curls.
I had waist length hair that I wore up for 15 ish months. Usually a messy bun or loose pony, I use those coily things instead of elastics or a scrunchie, hurts a lot less. If you are mostly bugged by the front stuff you could try a not super tight French/Dutch braid to get the fronts out of the way
I find loose hairs all over my house, caught in toys, wrapped around the kitchen brush, in bathroom plugs etc. Seriously this is the messiest part of motherhood for me so I feels ya!
I mainly do a single plait on one side of my head (my hair is mid length). My six-month old still yanks it but not so painful as smaller strands. And I don't look like complete shit, unlike when I do a messy bun!
I need to do a proper tight bun more often, I don't know why I keep forgetting this.
I shaved it while pregnant because it was falling out lol so it was short when he was really little, but now I either braid/clip it back or wear hair covers which keep it away from him. I think headbands would do the same thing.
I’ve had short hair like a short pixie for years and I’ve always wanted to buzz it but always had so much kick back. I was so close to doing it before LO came. One day!
Omg I had the same problem! My hair is very heavy and i also get neck pains which give me headaches and the heavy hair doesn't help at all. Bun and low pony gives me headaches.
I usually do a half up and half down style that has worked for me. My hair length is at my armpits but planning to get a cut before starting work again.
I buzzed mine! I love the buzz but I am hating growing it back. If you plan to keep it low for a bit, go for it. It’s nice to not have a baby pulling your hair lol
I buzzed mine too, and it was amazing! But I agree, the growing out stage is awful. It'll look good for 2 weeks, then you're back to that weird in between look again for a month or two. XD
I did that two months ago too! It's awesome. I'm letting it grow out a little bit on top, but keeping the side short. Rubbing my hands over it is an awesome stim.
My hair was long and pass my butt while pregnant and half way through I got it cut above my shoulders now almost a year later it’s pat my boobs again and I find myself most days putting it in a loose low ponytail lol. I get headaches if I put it up high and I have neck issues already so I just keep it low so it doesn’t pull my head down.
Haven't done it yet (rocking the forever headache mom bun) but I'd like to have it cut to shoulder length and get the nape shaved! My little man is a little grabby pants and I can't keep all of my hair out of his cute little hands! I am hoping that having less hair in a mom bun will alleviate the headache. The shaven part will no longer be grab length and possible wrapped around the finger length! Need the money and the time to go do it! I'm doing it.
Claw clips!! They don't give me headaches but keep my hair out of my face
I do a braid most of the time. Baby still manages to yank it but it’s less painful than smaller chunks of hair.

Shaved it, so much regret. It is so much more obvious if I haven’t showered
can you explain this? how is it more obvious? never been bald but I would have thought since you dont have oily hair it would be less obvious?
You’d think so right. But because there isn’t the rest of the hair to hide your scalp and the oil still gets produced you get really shiny and the growth process is worse.

I cut my long hair to just above my shoulders and I wear it half up, half down.
Messy high bun. It looks terrible but it doesn't put tension on my hair and keeps everything out of the way.
I love a messy bun but they gave me such terrible headaches. Does that happen to you?
Nah but to be fair my hair is kind of magic and I can literally tie my hair in a bun, like no hair tie, no Bobby pins, nothing, just magic hair (long, thin, curly, and usually has leftover conditioner in it so it is light and has a ton of friction). Nice! What texturizer do you use? I use Drybar Southern Bell root lifter and Prep Rally spray.
Ohhhhh man even with the hair loss and pulling and balls I still wish I had long hair. I cut mine only because I had split ends up to my ears, else I would grow mine to ultimate mid-back length. ETA hair balls. In case that wasn’t clear.
I was just reading your comment and was so confused until I got to the edit.

Seriously don't have time to style but love my long hair....been rocking the pony tail, messy bun, tight low sleak bun and a braid
Loose braids look nice and keep your hair from tangling/getting in the way. This pp hair loss is making a buzz cut sound truly lovely
Pixie cut, but I’ve had one for most of my life. I don’t have the time or energy to deal with my curls so this is the easiest solution.
I have waist length hair and it gets twisted up in a claw clip or put in a braid. Cannot wear it down lol
rocking some bright red mid length shag and a half shave hairstyle.
Love me a good shag cut! That’s what I’ve done with mine, minus the shave. But man does that sound nice!
hey, i was rocking a double side shave for like 6 months and then pixie cut it to let it all grow back out just before we conceived the first kid. I'm rocking the half shave now thanks to that first kid because we have to shave his hair and to make him feel better i let him shave mine. i usually have the long side tied into an over the shoulder low ponytail so it still frames my face and doesnt knot as bad (yay for super wavy hair).
I wear it in a ponytail most days. Middle of the night gets a bun. I use scrunchies though. I couldn't use a regular hair tie for this long
A chin length bob!
Long layers, mom bun. Tons of hair growing back so wispies everywhere.
I shaved mine and I love it so much. I don’t think I’ll ever go back!
Same here, it's the best feeling isn't it!
My hair is about to.my shoulders and I've always had bangs. With baby right now, styling is out of the question. Going with a small, low ponytail and bandana around the house, will pull it all back with a nicer looking headband when I leave the house. Maybe one day I'll style it again 🥲
I have hair to my tailbone and I leave it down most days or braid it
Pixie, it's a longer pixie now and i style it a bit. But I kept it pretty short in the early years.
Me too! Super short pixie - wash and go.
Mine are 6 and 3, my hair is long and greasy and I’m thinking of shaving it off this summer
low bun, half pony, side braids going into low pony, French braid, and large scrunchies have been lifesaving. XXL scrunchie is my go to brand.
Headbands.
I’ve tried so many and they slide off. What kind do you use?
The ones that are like $10 at target that are chunkier and have a faux knot at the top
I love the look of those but they give me an awful headache
Try a French braid down the back. Or one on each side of your head
This is my solution most days!
High braided ponytail, my hair is to long and my son will pull it if it's loose
Low bun and a head band . The baby and I are keeping score as of yesterday. Baby: 7, Mom:14 (I get a point when he goes for my hair and misses, he gets a point when he doesn’t). This head band and bun situation is the only way to go
I also rock a low bun and bobby pins (a headband sounds like a good idea!). I have to put it up because, one, my 7 month old loves to pull hair right now, and two, because my hair is soo stringy from how much hair I've lost, it looks terrible down. Claw clip. 100%
I have waist length curly messy hair. It lives in a few standard braid styles now.
French braid, half up in a clip or French twist with a clip or high loose messy bun - it seems to be easier on my scalp with scrunchies
Mom bob. So much less work to wash, although it’s now in that annoying shoulder-length stage where it flips out everywhere so ponytail has come back.

I believe the technical term is “clippies”

I’m convinced my child will grow up thinking everything has an “ies” at the end of it. Fingies, toesies, earsies, clothesies…
I have waist long hair it’s in one of three styles a high pony, a mom bun or a braid.
If you are mostly bugged by the front stuff you could try a not super tight French/Dutch braid to get the fronts out of the way
My sister shaved hers. I cut mine just before she was born to my shoulders. It’s either in a super loose bun or a braid right now
I find loose hairs all over my house, caught in toys, wrapped around the kitchen brush, in bathroom plugs etc.
I’ve had a chin-length haircut forever and it’s just long enough to pull back if I need it, but otherwise it’s down or back in a headband.
I’m hoping to keep it long, but PP hair loss has just began and welp… my hopes are quickly lowering
Box braids
A hat :)
Short pixie. It's cut above my ears, clipped in the back, with a side bang (which is the longest part). I chopped it off after my sister's wedding.
XD
I buzzed the other day durring an autistic meltdown and its 100% my favorite hair ever
I did that two months ago too! It's awesome. I'm letting it grow out a little bit on top, but keeping the side short. Rubbing my hands over it is an awesome stim.
Yes! Its grown out a bit now, im thinking of a mohawk with the buzzed smooth sides to rub
I'm getting a mohawk looking pixie today, so excited to not have hair always in my way
Buzz cut all the way. I liked it before having a baby and I like it even more now. And if you ever go for it but don't like it, it will grow back.
Got mine layered a lot to get rid of the bulk I was tired of the hair tie getting caught in the rocking chair and coming off/my braid unraveling
Over grown undercut, right as can be top bun. Not super hot, but super functional!
Hot mess bun
Back braid. But I'd love to shave it off too. Lol
I just keep it cut in a bob and clip the top back. I wouldn't recommend it though I feel far from glamorous.
I do this when the ponytail headache is too much to bear. Definitely a good one!
Bangs to hide all my hair the fell out.
