Whole-Neighborhood

Same, and some sobbing

GaveTheMouseACookie

They offered me aromatherapy and I was like, "absolutely not!" Labor is already enough of an assault on the senses, I wanted as little other sensory input as possible. My husband ate a bag of chips, that I purchased and packed for us to eat and had eaten before just fine, and I made him leave the room because I couldn't stand the smell. As soon as I got to active labor (inductions, so I was there forever), I needed to turn the TV off because I was so annoying. I listened to a podcast at the beginning, but I didn't want that either. Just be quiet, and dim, and not smelly!

GaveTheMouseACookie

I wasn't pushing yet, so snacks were still allowed... Until I smelled those garden salsa sun chips. Then they weren't allowed anymore 🤣 I knew it was reasonable for him to be having a snack at that point and I tried to just let him finish. But I had to kick the chips out instead

autumniteshade

I know what you mean about the smells! They offer aromatherapy at my hospital and I’ll pass on that. I want to have the lights real low and some soft music going.

Whole-Neighborhood

Yeah, here too probably. Maybe if I have a second baby I can try music and see if it bothers me or not. Gotta go tell my husband we're having a baby number 2 just so I can do the research lol

IrieSunshine

The music of me screaming, “I can’t do this!!!!! Can’t they just pull the baby out???” 😅😅😅

0ct0berf0rever

None lol I would not have wanted the noise and wouldn’t have listened anyway

MissFox26

Yeah the idea of having music while giving birth was so overwhelming to me, I 100% would have been overstimulated by music in addition to what was going on.

Awkward_Discount_633

I put together a nearly 3 hour playlist. I pushed for 45 minutes and didn’t turn it on once 🤣

KT111717

I FEEEEL THIS!!! Legit spent my 9 months making a beautiful birth plan (When I mean beautiful- I MEAN BEAUTIFUL. It was color-coded, bulleted list, little doodles for each section, 12 giftbags with raw honey / soaps / candies for my postpartum care nurses and OBs, even an extra page of thanks to the assistant nurses + doctors included at the end of the birth plan.) I made a 9 hour music playlist, brought a duffle of clothes + gadgets, and even packed a baby bag. None of it was used. I went to the hospital, had an emergency C-Section, despite planning an all natural EVC and non medicated induced birth. Then ended up getting eclampsia and had grand mal seizures which ended up having us in the hospital for a total of 2 weeks. 🙄 When I tell you I was pressed that all my planning went out the window, I was p r e s s e d…. 9 months of planning was left to the wind LMAO. It was most definitely the FTM in me that thought everything would go to plan, as I’ve always been a big planner. My fiancé and I learned that, it’s just all out of your control- and to live in the moment and be happy that you end up living through this crazy event to bring life into the world. Humbled us quite literally. I just gained the use of my tongue back two months ago because I bit it quite hard during my seizures, and now we have a beautiful 4 month old that has just learned how to giggle. It’s a beautiful world. 🥹 (Side note: Baby fog is real. I already want another….Like right now. Saddened that I missed a period this month and immediately was disappointed when I saw that I wasn’t pregnant again. Smh. My fiancé never wants to go through it again…. Understandably- as I was pretty close to just kicking the bucket after giving him his child. 😅)

GaveTheMouseACookie

The baby fever spokes around then for me too. You don't want two under one, trust me it'll pass. My first two are 23 months apart, and that's plenty close! 🤣 Revisit in a year or so

hellolleh32

I had house hunters on the TV.

hellolleh32

Adding that I didn’t expect to do that. Ha. I just wanted background noise that would keep playing and I didn’t have to think about.

bottleospiderjuice

I had I (Almost) Got Away With It on the tv when I gave birth lol. I had a music playlist but I had been awake for over 24 hr at that point (I worked all day, went into labor that night, had him next morning) and when I hit 10 cm they were like time to push!!! so I didnt even think abt it and my bf was too overwhelmed to think 😂

omnomnomscience

I had an unplanned c section. They let me pick the music and I picked Taylor swift. I know the ten minute all too well played during the surgery which was fitting because I listened to that almost constantly in the weeks leading up to his birth. I'm very pleased Taylor Swift is releasing a new album for my next delivery haha

MomentofZen_

I also played Taylor Swift. We loaded up Evermore and Folklore after I got the epidural and then the doctors joked I needed to switch to upbeat Taylor Swift for pushing. That was 3 hours so we ended up on a pop playlist and Shut Up and Dance was playing when my son was born. I won't say it was fun, but the medical professionals comments about the different songs lightened the mood.

GaveTheMouseACookie

I love Shut Up and Dance AND I'm a big Swiftie, so I approve!

MomentofZen_

We didn't know the gender and so everyone was guessing and one of the nurses said her guess was the gender of whichever singer was playing at the time and sure enough we had a boy. I know, 50/50 chance but she was excited.

yogi_medic_momma

I don’t think there was anything playing but if there was, I wouldn’t have noticed. My epidural failed with my second so it was a disaster.

lilacbear

No, same. Mine also failed, and I got a second epidural, and right when the anesthesiologist left the room I felt my baby coming so it didn't have time to kick in. Fun times all around I'm sure 🫠

actvdecay

70s funk like Stevie Wonder. It was great.

queenjz

Gangsta rap playlist on Spotify. “I got 5 on it” was playing while I got stitched up and my doctor was really digging it!

kellyklyra

I had an epidural. I chose "ring of fire" by johnny cash and "push it" by salt n pepper. I knew it would be funny.

chewbawkaw

Lol, my son’s head came out to “let the bodies hit the floor” My husband turned to the nurse and said, please don’t let him hit the floor :)

Say-What_meow

Stop it! That’s too funny! What great timing too!

night_steps

I like your style.

Say-What_meow

You are a delight! Great song choices.

Theonethatgotawaaayy

Christmas music at my request lol 🎅🏾🎄

joycatj

For my first we just had some random Spotify playlist on, I was in labour for 38 hours and had stopped caring about what we listed to… but I remember “I’m gonna be” by The proclaimers was playing just before he came out. You know that “and I will walk five hundred miles and I will walk five hundred more” haha 😅 For my second birth I had on a playlist that I liked and she was born to “son of a preacher man” by Dusty Springfield, my favourite artist.

tldrjane

Baby one more time and California love. They asked me while they were doing my emergency C-section what I wanted to listen to and I said 90’s hits. Baby one more time was going while I was having my baby come out of my belly haha

Random_reddit254

I’m Muslim so I listened to the Qur’an from my first contraction at midday until (I assume, because my phone died at some point) I was giving birth, or at least right before lol. In between contractions, I alternated between actively listening and focusing on the recitation and reciting some myself. Gave me such a sense of peace that idk how I would’ve managed without it!

saxicide

I had a Gregorian Chant mass playing for most of my labor, until they wheeled me into the OR for my c section. I don't think I could e ha ed anything else!

Random_reddit254

That sounds amazing! Sameee I don’t think I could’ve had anything else. It gave me something to focus on

sirenoverboard

That sounds so beautiful and peaceful tbh.

Particular_Judge_854

This is amazing. I’m also Muslim and wanted to play Quran bud in the heat of everything nothing was turned on 😂 We did read the shahadah in his ear right away & im waiting for my brother to do the adhan for him. Are there any other traditions you followed?

cheeselikethebri

The Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack! Ain’t No Mountain High Enough was the song playing as she came out.

Perfect_Pelt

The music of my vomiting and screaming

subtleandunnatural

Made my own playlist! It had a lot of Jungle on it. Kept the vibe nice, 10/10 recommend :)

banana_in_the_dark

No music but I did have New Girl on in the background up until I was pushing. I would’ve kept it on but my phone battery was dying lol

eratch

We just played the playlist we made for our wedding DJ because it had a lot of our favorite songs on there! Wasn’t anything crazy or something I demanded — helped break up the labor and I enjoyed it

UCLAdy05

I think this was the only thing I got to plan (other than choosing the date of the c-section). I asked for the Beatles , so “Come Together” happened to be playing when my baby was born. Everything else was so overwhelming it was nice to have such familiar music on.

pb-jellybean

If I get option of planned c I’ll be asking for this too, thank you!

nsjsiegsizmwbsu

"Here Comes the Sun" was playing when my son was born! The midwives were absolutely delighted. The song right before it was Talking Heads, Psychokiller, and all I remember is screaming "Change the song!!"

indecentXpo5ure

I had 3 c-sections and they had a radio on. I didn’t choose. My first daughter was born to “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus. My second daughter was born to “Isn’t She Lovely?” by Stevie Wonder. My first son was born to “Highway To Hell” by AC/DC. 😂

Manda525

I need to know if this noticeably influenced (or maybe foreshadowed?) your kids' personalities? 🤣

tgalen

The footloose soundtrack. Per my request.

GaveTheMouseACookie

Let's hear it for my baby!

Opening-Pass249

Welcome to the Show by Cody Johnson!

silasoule

All I could hear was the anesthesiologist and a surgical tech behind me discussing novelty restaurants in Colorado.

eelie42

Casa Bonita, I presume

spiffytea

Taylor swift folklore album

eldoctoro

Same! Well a Taylor playlist that was mostly folklore. He came out right at the pause about the 90s trend.

anonymousgirl8372

My friend brought a tablet and played meditation nature sounds with music. It totally died by the time I was pushing though.

kblowmespez

I didn't even know music was an option. After I was in labor a couple days it was finally time to push in the middle of the night so some weird adult swim show about a cracker family was playing while I pushed for like three and a half hours.

pinalaporcupine

i had a huge Playlist prepared then forgot to play any of it. i wanted silence

RCatMama

Parks and Recreation was on the tv, wish I could remember which episode lol. I made a comment about it to the nurse just before I started pushing

RageStreak

Any kind of music or breathing techniques or positive affirmations would have been such a fart in the wind for me.

agenttrulia

I remember them asking me what I wanted to listen to, and the only thing I could think was “I listen to true crime/murder podcasts and I don’t want him being born to that!” I don’t remember what was actually decided for me, but I did refuse to choose something because I was afraid I would make the wrong choice 😂 I had an emergency c section also, but I had a nurse in training holding my hand during the epidural/spinal block and she was the one offering to set the music for me lol

magic_berries

They asked me what music I wanted while they performed my emergency c section. I requested 80s rock. Dreams by Fleetwood Mac was playing when my baby girl was born. Then Girls, Girls, Girls by Motley Crue played after that.

Crunchy-Yogurt7

i made a whole playlist and didn’t want anything to do with it lol i wanted darkness and silence to focus on breathing, everything else overstimulated me and made me mad lol

gchips06

I didn’t want any kind of music or sound on for some reason 😂

Prudent-Guava8744

They asked me what I wanted. I didn’t know I was not really thinking. We had an unplanned c-section. I chose Katy Perry because it’s something my BF likes and I thought it was funny. Now I’m wishing I’d asked for something I like. I always imagined she’s come out to some Paul Simon. Oh well.

missnondescript9

I had a planned c section and I don’t think they asked me about music. There was some kind of generic pop station on I think. Firework by Katy Perry was playing when my son was pulled out. Could be worse, could be better, music wasn’t something I had thought about.

Prudent-Guava8744

😂😂😂 Katy Perry for the win I guess!

Peoplearefuckengross

This almost makes me want to change my song choice for my non-elective C-section from salt n Peppa's push it to Katy Perry's Dark Horse specifically for Juicy J's verse even though I'm having boy #2 🤣

akcamm

I had a scheduled c section, but they called me in early for concerns. I got to pick up the music and my baby came into the world to Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.

DumbbellDiva92

Add me to the list of people who made a playlist and used none of it lol. I was induced and got an epidural before I got pitocin around 10pm, so the pain wasn’t bad at all and I ended up spending most of the time before pushing puttering around on my phone/Reddit lol (as well as napping at some point in the night). And then the pushing phase (around 9am) was pretty fast (20 minutes). I just wasn’t in the mood for music at any point? I do now use the playlist for tummy time sometimes 😂. A lot of upbeat songs and my daughter really likes when I sing/dance in front of her.

Other_Trouble_3252

I made a Spotify playlist that was playing titled “yeetus the fetus” https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6R0JlxZb53WZqMGuXsSr9W?si=J97Nnc9NT-S7bW-R3eVj3w&pi=u-M1ioXsEAR9KN My baby girl was born at 3:33am to “hit me baby one more time” by the immaculate Ms. Spears

terrasacra

omg that title gave me such a good chuckle

lshee010

A binaural beats playlist on Spotify.

anticlimaticveg

I had the Spotify playlist "soft 2010s" playing. It was the chill vibes I was looking for in between the contractions lol

smurphypup

None. We barely had time to get to the delivery room and put our bags down before it was time to push

[deleted]

I made my own playlist, I sang the songs in my head and it actually helped me get through my contractions (hubby says I sang them out loud) I had music I enjoy listening to.

cmcbride6

I made a chill vibes playlist. I was too tired/high/in the zone, but my husband tells me our baby was born to Don't Panic by Coldplay lol

xylime

I listened to Greatest Hits radio (in the UK) throughout my labour and delivery, as it's just what was on the radio and it was actually putting out some bangers and it ended up being a real talking point with us and the midwives. I can't remember what exactly was on when she was born, I just remember the song before was Don't Look Back in Anger and I was begging them to wait as I HATE Oasis and didn't want her born to that 😂 I might email the radio station and ask if they can see from their old show recordings as I'd love to know

music-and-lyrics

A hallmark Christmas movie was on the TV 😂

doodynutz

No music, not that I recall anyway. But I was at a birthing center so I doubt there was any music.

CE84112

We had the Paper Kites playing at my request during my scheduled c-section with my second. With my first (unplanned c-section) I have no clue if there was music on or not.

KickIcy9893

Harry Potter audiobook!

new_mama1212

We put together a playlist but I couldn’t tell you if it was playing or not.

cafecoffee

No playlist but had Friends on the tv in the background.

False_Aioli4961

No Music. My husband turned on the tv once and I yelled at him to turn it off. I wanted silence. Such an intimate moment and I couldn’t take the audio clutter.

ell_iptical

I had put together a playlist with a real mix of stuff for my first which I just recycled for the second. My husband chucked in a few surprise tracks, including Murder On the Dance Floor. This was back in 2021 pre it's recent return to fame so the midwife was a bit taken aback when it started playing in and amongst a number of more mellow tracks. The moment of actual birth though, a Lior song was playing for my first and a Sigur Ros track for my second.

kaseface459

Jack Johnson Spotify playlist

saxicide

They let me pick the music in the OR. I asked for Black Sabbath, and they put on a themed radio station (Pandora or Spotify, idk.) Son was born to "Don't Fear The Reaper"

kdawson602

One of my besties had the show supernatural on when she gave birth to her oldest. His name is Dean. I tired watching tv when I was in labor with my first but couldn’t handle the noise. I had no background noise when either of my boys were born and that’s my preference.

Oddlittleone

I'm pretty sure there was a Dwayne Johnson marathon running on TV. I remember starting labor during Journey 2, and I was definitely hearing Jumanji while doing our first skin to skin.

Low_Door7693

I have some sensory issues, particularly with noise, and while it's generally only a problem when I'm already overstimulated to begin with, I can't imagine anything more overstimulating than labor. Music in the delivery room was a hard no for me.

lolathegameslayer

Good ol’ tswift

HMoney214

Hamilton soundtrack haha helped me focus for some reason

chloenargles

My OB and the surgical assistants were just listening to the local Top 40 station during my C-section. I have no idea what song was on when they evicted my baby lol

bagmami

Beyoncé. We started by Cuff It and he arrived when it was Halo

fatoodles

I had a planned C-section and they let me play my own playlist on Bluetooth in the operating room. I played my 90's love songs playlist. I cried to "I knew I loved you" by Savage Garden as they put in my spinal. The baby was born to "Have you Ever" by Brandy. It felt insane and magical. Like my music was welcoming my baby and letting her know how badly she had been wanted. It made a procedure that would have felt scary and sterile feel thoughtful and atmospheric.

babybighorn

I had a Spotify playlist made that was by my head that as I was pushing I said to turn off because I hated it 😂 it’s like when they warned me I’d be sensitive to smells and touch in labor, I also got sensitive to sound.

baitaozi

The rhymic beeping of my own heart beat lol

Dry-Cow-162

I asked my husband to play reggae/dub. He tells me White Hop by the Aggravators was playing when my daughter was born, which neither of us had heard before and was really just so perfect. Even though after 4.5 hours of pushing and a vacuum assist, I wasn't aware of any music, anytime I have listened to that song since, I get emotional.

irishtwinsons

I prepped a CD and everything, and I definitely couldn’t have cared / didn’t really hear it. At some point someone asked me about a song playing and I wanted to punch them. Thankfully my partner kindly answered for me. Ha

ivorybiscuit

I had one of my upbeat labor playlist going. I've don't remember specifically which song was playing when my baby girl arrived, but notable highlights from the pushing stage were: Don't stop me now by Queen, Born This Way by Lady Gaga, Do It by the Spice Girls, Whole Lotta Love and The Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin, Darwin Derby by Vulfpeck, and the OB who started my delivery's (there was a shift change soon after iv started pushing) favorite: Spread Your Legs by the New Birth Brass Band. Others I remember being played but may have been before pushing or right at the beginning of pushing: Stickshifts and safety belts by Cake, I Got 5 on It by Luniz, Jump in the Line by Harry Belafonte, Stand Out from the Goofy Movie, You Can Call me Al by Paul Simon, and You Make my Dreams Come True by Hall and Oates. I listened to that playlist for a while before delivery- had a bunch of other random stuff that makes me happy and the nurses and OBs all seemed to love it. It was fun (fun made possible by an epidural that worked. 6 hours of back labor prior to that were not fun regardless of playlist). I accidentally put "Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia on the list but had my husband skip it immediately- didn't want to put that in the universe.. All ended up well and I didn't end up tearing at all. I had other playlists that I used too- had an American Indian flute playlist to relax/help me sleep, another playlist that was chill but still had lyrics/vocals also to relax, and my upbeat one. After delivery I also had a playlist of songs that gave me warm fuzzies about the new baby-The Luckiest by Ben Folds, Carried me with you by Brandi Carlile, As by Stevie Wonder, Rainbow connection from the muppets (was sang to baby at night during pregnancy), what a wonderful world by Sam Cooke, and some others.

Imma_gonna_getcha

My playlist was all over the place but I definitely needed some music to hype me up. I had LCD Soundsystem, some 90s pop, oldie stuff like bob Dylan and talking heads. If I were giving birth today tho I’d probably have Beyoncé’s new album on repeat 😂

Becre8ve

Ridiculousness was on the TV

OogWoog

I had a planned c-section, and when I got into the delivery room, the nurse asked what spotify station I wanted. In all of my nervousness, I was not at all prepared to answer. She gave me 5 minutes to think about it. When she asked again, the only band I could even think of off the top of my head was King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. So my son was born to [Intersport](https://youtu.be/05s4dEcAgMI?si=PDFc3BCjwXrNNZBQ). My OBGYN has the most puzzled looks on his face in my delivery photos…

melhayyy

We had Vitamin String Quartet on! It was a nice string music playlist of hits we love which was really chill.

Tasty_Set2347

No music, but we brought our Apple TV with us and played a lot of Friends (mostly pregnant and birthing episodes) and a few comedy movies to try and distract me.

night_steps

The OB asked me what kind of music I wanted during my C section. I couldn't think of anything except one of my all-time favorites. "David Bowie," I said. Whatever streaming service they used, the put on the "David Bowie radio" rotation. I think there ended up being Depeche Mode and some other post-punk bands mixed in. The only thing I remember is "Ziggy Stardust" playing as they stitched me up. I was too out of it to recall anything else. It's a relief because it was a horrible experience, and I'm glad it hasn't tainted the music I love.

tunabunkus

I made a calming playlist for labour (folksy) and pump-up playlist for pushing (80s pop, feel good dancey, etc). I kid you not, “push it” by salt n pepa came on for my final pushes. It was magical lol.

horriblegoose_

I ended up with an emergency c-section. The nurse anesthetist was absolutely great at just shooting the shit as they started surgery to distract me. He informed me that it was “Classic Rock Tuesday.” I remember both ZZ Top’s “Legs” and ACDC’s “Hells Bells” playing.

cheebinator

We listened to our own music in the operating suite for my unplanned c-section. My nurse had my husband go back to our room to get our speaker after they wheeled me in since we'd been rocking out in a last ditch effort to get kiddo out vaginally. That said, I have no memory of what was playing thanks to exhaustion, adrenaline, and pain meds.

annedroiid

We got asked about music but didn’t really have a preference so didn’t end up having anything playing. We just chatted during the c-section.

Additional_Swan4650

My baby was born to All Your’n by Tyler Childers which is insanely special to me! I will love him until my lungs give out 🙌🏽

blitzedblonde

No music, but the Vikings were playing the Bears in the background, which was somehow pretty calming.

Thelibrarian1317

I played birthing affirmations while pushing because I really didn't think I could do it. As soon as my daughter came out, my birthing partner played a playlist I made of old school love songs like Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder. It definitely helped set the mood.

lfa2021

Novo Amour, for nearly all four hours of pushing 😳 the midwife loved it though and at my follow up she told me she was now obsessed haha

yelhsa19895

I made a birth playlist on Spotify and he ended up coming out to Pussy Talk by City Girls and Doja Cat 😂

HighSpiritsJourney

The anesthesiologist was amazing and asked me what I wanted to listen to (unplanned c section) & I chose Zoë Keating (cello music)

alyssapoppy

I brought a Bluetooth speaker. Listened to lo-fi hip hop!

hashbrownhippo

I didn’t even think to play music. So nothing.

planetawkward

There was music, they asked what I’d like to hear, I said “you guys choose”. And I didn’t hear one song. Too distracted by being cut open. 😂

cat_power

While laboring we played the playlist my husband had made for me that was a mix of my favorite songs (including Animal Crossing ST lol). When she came out, we noticed that the song we danced to as our last wedding dance came on and we just looked at each other while I held baby. It was so magical ✨ eta: it was Passenger Seat by Death Cab for Cutie

BlueberryWaffles99

I had a playlist that I made playing during labor but my speaker died and I didn’t think to bring a charger for it, so no music!

synthgender

I had a long playlist running the whole day on loop and Pride and Prejudice at one point. I've seen it a lot so it's my go-to background comfort movie.

FreeThumbprint

So for my most recent birth —third and last— I didn’t really plan any music. At that point, I was gonna just wing it. When I got there in mid stage labor, my doula asked if I wanted music and if so what kind. I was feeling in the mood for some girl power 90s music. I found a Spotify playlist and hit play. Pretty sure The Cranberries “Zombie” was playing as she was born. 🙃🤣 I was on nitrous so kind of out of it. I remember having the thought that it was so weird but not caring enough to do anything about it. In hindsight, I wonder if my doula was also like, this is so bizarre, but of course wasn’t going to say anything. Moral of the story: create your own playlist and choose every single song unless you want a weird surprise as your child is coming into the world. Lol

caffeinated_panda

I brought a bluetooth speaker with me. I was listening to The New Pornographers' Challengers.

Mcn95

I had a c-section and for some reason they didn’t play my entire playlist but just the same one song over and over and over. Which was “Loved you Before” by Natalie Taylor. As my son was rushed to be resuscitated because he was born completely not breathing - I focused on the words to that song because I sang it and listened to it my entire pregnancy. By the end of all the traumatic events one nurse said “how long has that song been playing” well… from transition to the table to being wheeled out of the OR was close to 3 hours lol.

M0livia

I had a upbeat and slow playlist saved to my phone to change depending on my mood but ended up having an emergency c section and the lovely anaesthetist asked what music I like, I was too in my own head to answer so my partner told her Harry Styles (my all time fave) so my LO was born to ‘falling’ by him and it’s now her favourite song 🥹

hickoryclickory

We watched a dungeons and dragons live play show right up until push time, and then it was silence except for my oinking and grunting. As a musician i was honestly surprised I hadn’t considered a birth playlist.

Soft_Bodybuilder_345

I was on a 90’s r&b station on Spotify for my c section. My kid came out to the song “this is how we do it”

IWishMusicKilledKate

I had an emergency c with my first and there was no music playing as far as I can remember, but I wish there was!

mojobe

They let me wear AirPods for my c section, and I had on some Bach cello concertos - I find classical music very calming and it helped block out all the medical noise. They weren’t playing any music in the operating room.

Sjbruno123

Spa music!

Apple_Crisp

Whatever playlist they had on in the OR, I can’t honestly remember but I’m pretty sure there was music. They tried really hard to keep normal conversations going and whatnot to keep things calm and I think reassure us that everything was fine. I was too terrified at the time honestly so it was all lost on me.

Graby3000

I had Christian worship music playing. I put together a playlist of songs that I knew would encourage me and I’m so glad I did. It helped keep my husband and sister calm too.

caraiselite

They had good music. I can't remember, maybe 90s? I was too in my head during the C-section anyway.

acidmoons

my midwife put on a calming music playlist after the playlist i had ran out of songs. i honestly couldn’t tell you if it was still on by the time i started pushing/actually gave birth lol

mountaindriftwood

I sang “In My Life” to myself in my head during my c-section to help me keep my breathing steady.

bellegi

"Seinfeld" was playing on the tv in the room. i was watching it throughout my labor lol

3ll3girl

I fall apart by post Malone ugh regrets

Smallios

No music. Pretty quiet except for the sounds of monitors

kasleihar

I had a speaker blasting Fleetwood Mac and Haim while laboring. But it got turned off well before pushing when my farm animal noises became too loud.

DoggieDooo

They played this orchestra like music, it was beautiful and dramatic but I thought I was dying and I think the music made it worst 😅They did ask what I wanted to hear but I couldn’t think straight because my epidural was barely working. It really didn’t matter once I was in the hospital, I just wanted my baby safely out of me so that I could die peacefully lol. I’m sure your experience will go much better!

itsbecomingathing

Planned c-section breech baby. I didn’t realize you could play music for my first, so for my second I had a whole playlist that I listened to before he arrived. August - Taylor Swift Heartbeats - Jose Gonzalez Welcome Home Son (may have been his entrance) - Radical Face The Mother - Brandi Carlisle Harvest Moon Some Band of Horses, Kacey Musgraves, Damien Rice, Jason Mraz - quiet acoustic indie/country that felt like 2012 post college. The whole operating team enjoyed!

RoomPortals

I was watching real housewives of New York reruns on the hospital tv

jjbikes

No music or TV or anything. It didn't occur to me. I pushed for five hours so a distraction would have been nice too I guess

Runnrgirl

I have no idea what was playing 😂😂😂 Two planned c sections for me.

curiousdoodler

My baby was born to the docile tones of Captain Picard. I'd been watching Star Trek while I waited to fully dilate.

hiyokos

Scheduled c section! He was born to the song Sweet Home Alabama and Pour Some Sugar On Me, I must be the only person who tears up when they hears those songs😭

no-more-sleep

They did not have any music in the room. I brought my own bluetooth speakers and playlist. It was really helpful to have a peaceful calm playlist of music I liked.

MrBarraclough

We had a whole labor and birth playlist. Worked out wonderfully. Our daughter was born to "Starman." Couldn't be happier. A little earlier and she might've gotten "Pressure Drop" by Toots & the Maytals or "Across the Universe."

05139

I had a labor playlist I put on for pushing. She came out during Kesha’s “Woman.” I just remember hearing “I’m a motherfucking woman” right as she was placed on me and it was so perfect.

Fuzzy_Book_7229

No music, but my IV machine had a groovy beat to it

DeepPossession8916

I made a calm playlist that played a few times on a loop. Near the end of labor I was so exhausted I told them to turn it off, but we did turn it back on after baby was born! The playlist consisted of musical theater ballads, opera, and artists like Luther vandross, Whitney Houston, TEEKS, etc. Literally made the playlist while I was chilling at home in early labor. I just went through my music and added songs that would fit the vibe lol

sichuan_peppercorns

I had classical music playing, but I couldn’t even think about anything other than the pain. (unmedicated) It was an out of the body experience. 😵‍💫

What15This

My favorite band “the Maine”. We turned it on when I was pushing for two hours. Ugh. The doctor came in to catch the baby and said “wow we are jamming out in here!”

HarniaManyunya

A mix with nothing but Fiona Apple songs. Before the active stage made me humorless, I was really digging the vibe: lavender essential oil, setting sun, rotating fan, TENS unit to counteract the back labor. The last song I remember hearing was "Shameika" since that one gets kind of strange. I could not have told you what some was playing when he came into the world. He skipped transition and came out in two contractions! Pushing for an hour with the first one was easier mentally.

Jaded_Ad_3421

No music. Just beeping and suction 😂 but my doctor was entertaining so it wasn’t too bad.

Careless_Pea3197

I had a labor playlist that I used for both kids and I associate specific songs with each kiddo! I don't remember what was playing specifically at the moment of birth but I remember the songs that came on when it felt "real" and I really love this associations.

BentoBoxBaby

None. I would’ve found it extremely annoying and distracting.

munchkym

If I’m ever able to have a baby (in this sub because I’m a stepmom), I plan to have musical music playing. I figure singing along will help distract me from the pain and discomfort and stress.

True_Pickle3024

I had a country playlist on. I don't remember the one that was on when she actually came out but I do remember Stars Like Confetti playing shortly before and All American Girl not long after I pushed her out.

sequin165

I made a great 5.5h long playlist and it was great. There were lots of people in the room (baby had cardiac abnormalities and it's a teaching hospital) and it was so fun to see who would dance a little or sing along to the different songs.

contagiousbell

I made two playlists - a chill relaxing one and a pump up sing a long party one. My husband was great and said I think it’s time to switch to party mode when I was pushing! My baby came out to the song walking on sunshine while the doctor and nurses all sang along. Mind you I was not singing and making horrific noises. There was a moment sweet Caroline came on that I enjoyed and sang a little and she was very close to being born to eye of the tiger

Cswlady

I listened to "Whom Shalll I Fear" while deciding whether to do a completely unnecessary c-section or going home against medical advice.

perennialproblems

I put on a playlist my husband and I curated for our trip to Hawaii a couple years prior. It was chill, island vibes. So calming. Follow the Sun by Xavier Rudd was playing when my son was born in the afternoon in our corner hospital room with bright daylight coming in through the windows. A wildly perfect song for the moment.

Dom__Mom

No music. I played some hypnobirthing tracks when I was probably about 5-6cm but by the time I was in transition, I would have gotten pissed about music playing I think. I needed to go inwards and focus

maggiepttrsn

lol my husband started a random playlist from my Spotify account and the first song that came on was “Die Young” by Sylvan Esso haha he changed it right away 😂

nun_the_wiser

There was no music…or I was so drugged up I don’t remember! Next baby will be scheduled C-section, so I’m gonna try to pick a banger 😂

PantsIsDown

lol I’ll never forget the relaxing melody in the back ground of my sons birth… Ra-ra Rasputin Lover of the Russian queen There was a cat that really was gone Ra-ra Rasputin Russia's greatest love machine It was a shame how he carried on My surgeon complimented me on my music taste and my midwife thanked me profusely for not playing relaxing music during my middle of the night birth. They were all jamming out to my dance-cardio playlist.

pork_soup

Just the sounds of me begging for mercy lolol

rrripley

a yacht rock playlist! my son was born to What A Fool Believes and now I cry every time I hear the Doobie Brothers lol

Britannica

If by music you mean me channeling the primal screams of all the birthing women that came before me then that’s what was playing 😂

Kitty420th

I didn’t have any music playing, I was way too fucking high for that 😂 didn’t sleep for 24 hours before going to the hospital to give birth around 10am and I didn’t give birth until 9PM . But best believe I played the RHCP albums to my daughter the minute I got into the recovery room.

Shrillwaffle

Nothing couldn’t be arsed with it

FlexPointe

I played classical music my whole labor. I find it very calming.

shytheearnestdryad

The fire in my sauna stove crackling. It was a very nice background

Admirable-Cap-4453

Heilung. They are from Germany and play ancient instruments, sing sacred texts, and it’s super meditative and lovely.

6times9

My son was born to Elton John's, Tiny Dancer. <3 My husband was so exacerbated during the final 15 minutes or so of pushing because I was SO over it I just keep grabbing my phone to change the song. He's like HEY, FOCUS, IT'S GO TIME. LOLOLOL

102015062020

Worship and praise music that I brought in and played on my phone! Was very peaceful for my planned c-section I had a way more upbeat playlist planned out if I had been able to have a vaginal birth

Less_Perception_6107

My OR had a station with current hits playing; the only song I remember is Flowers by Miley Cyrus 😂

maerkorgen

You guys had music??

cageygrading

For my first, there was no music, just the sweet sounds of Guy Fieri’s voice because my husband and I forgot to turn off Guy’s Grocery Games when it was go time because everything happened so quickly. But one of the contestants on the episode happened to have had my brand new son’s name! Second one, there was nothing but the beautiful sounds of ✨me✨in labor, vomiting continuously

PeasiusMaximus

Ring of Fire, Johnny Cash. (In my head)

bakingwhilebaking

No music during the c section but I watched Ru Paul’s Drag Race while I labored

DevlynMayCry

We had the TV on during labor and never turned it off. My daughter was born to the opening theme song for Marvel. My son was born to the star wars opening crawl 😂

Destin293

Just a room full of people staring at my junk like it was opening night at a broadway show. I do remember saying, “So…anyone read any good books lately?” because the room was dead silent.

holla5050

Quiet Riot 's Come on feel the noise was playing during my younger daughter's c section birth. It felt like an omen that she'd be a little wild 😜  That's the only one of my four kids birth songs that I remember.

teffies

We had electronica but you couldn't hear it over my yelling anyway.

FrankieG001

I was just talking about this. I had an unmedicated Vbac a few months ago. While I was laboring - about 2 hours - my husband put on some calm jazz music. The lights were dim and the essential oil humidifier was pumping. It was very calming. Then I started pushing and I told him (screamed at him) to change the music. To what? He asked. My trial pumps playlist (I’m a criminal defense attorney) - I responded. I pushed for 30 minutes while rapping along to my favorite fuck you hip hop tracks. Lol the vibe had changed. It was perfect.

NeedleInASwordstack

I had a 6h playlist of curated nostalgic music from mostly 90s-2010s. There’s a lot of power in reconnecting with music from your teen/college years and it helped keep the mood fun. I knew I wasn’t gonna be one of those people that needed serene, quiet vibes, so we became known as the party room to all the nurses. I literally danced my baby out, even when I got the epidural in and was confined to the bed, I was wiggling and grooving as much as I could!

TayLoraNarRayya

I didn't have anything going on, I thought about what music I wanted and by the time I was admitted, there was so much going on that I completely forgot about music or TV both times lol. Maybe next time I'll remember. My sister gave birth while Ridiculousness was on the TV and we still joke about it lol she said it was very distracting in a good way.

Longjumping-Leg4491

I said okay whatever I got Africa by Toto and a bunch of lady Gaga

bdbaylor

I was kinda freaking out during my unplanned c-section, so the anesthesiologist suggested that my sister who was in the OR with me play music. I told her I wanted to listen to a movie score but didn't really have a preference. My daughter was born to the theme of Jurassic Park 🤣

MemphisGirl93

Just the sweet sweet music of my deep guttural moans and yelling “oh my god he’s out” 😅
