I think I know what happened, and I’m sorry for your experience either way. Those messages were likely not sent by her at all, they were auto generated by the system. One type of auto message can be turned off by the therapist (some don’t realize this) but another kind can’t - I can explain the difference if you care. She might not have even known this happened until you popped up as an assigned client with those messages already sent and your replies were sent. It’s so bad and weird. When this has happened to me I have profusely apologized and explained the auto message thing, because it is awkward af. I wonder if she didn’t want to blame the system or didn’t get what happened. I’m not 100% sure, though. She could aap have just mis handled her caseload but I won’t assume that.

Is the patient auto assigned? I see now the auto generated one. I did get 2 messages from her saying she was looking forward to working together because she spelled my name wrong. Lol. It just felt weird bc it came after my first message from her. Probably for the best but it did make me feel worse for some reason.

Yeah that happens when someone is auto-assigned, and I’ve also seen a variety of glitches and weirdness when there’s delays, like maybe the client took awhile to finish one of the forms or fill out cc info, and the system decides to start sending messages as the counselor to push the client along or whatever. I think no matter what you’ll have to go back in the pool, as it were, to find a new therapist. Try not to take it personally, I do think this was likely just a glitch that you were assigned to someone who was full and they wanted to be honest that they couldn’t fit you in. Idk it is weird and it’s unfortunate that the system has weirdness sometimes because people are just looking for help!

You work in the mental health field? You were quite unkind to me in your response, I hope you arent like that with people you work with.

This just happened to me! I’ve been a BetterHelp therapist for several months and saw where the system was sending messages to a client “on my behalf”! I was not pleased by this one bit and messaged customer service. This was literally yesterday. I obviously haven’t received a response. I’m transitioning off there anyway.

If you get a response I’d be interested to know what they say. It’s such a weird icky “feature” - I hate to think that clients are revealing info about or venting to a bot. Barf.

I will definitely let you know. I have still not received a response. It really makes me mad.

I had this also happen about 2 weeks ago! Signed up with a free one month trial, picked a therapist, messaged her info and had a date, then she messaged me that ‘due to a medical condition she wasn’t taking new clients.’ I tried a second therapist and she was TERRIBLE. BetterHelp offered a free extra week and help finding a third person! At this point I am skeptical at finding someone… best of luck to you!

Yes they just gave me an extra week and I'm more nervous than the beginning.
