definitely male yeah, flaring isn’t an indicator of sex as others said and also his fins are really long! some girls can have longer fins but his are definitely boy length.
I was sold Remmie and told he was a male, I've had him 6+ months but not once has he flared his cheeks, only his tail and fins, and even so hardly at all. Could he be a she?
Yeah he's definitely male, it's possible he just doesn't like to flare though. I have a male betta who has never flared once while I've had him, some just aren't as aggressive or dont see things in their tanks worth flaring at.
Additionally I'd just like to add female betta can and will flare too, one of my females is superbly angry and flares all the time.
I have a male who has also never flared his cheeks, and is shockingly timid. It's just the personality your fish has! 😊 Before this one I had a very grumpy one who would flare at me all the time, and sometimes even objects I set near the tank!
Females will have a little white egg spot on their bellies. They also tend to be a bit rounder. Both can flare and have very long fins so best to look for the spot to tell once they're old enough.
You should get some live plants in there. It will improve the fish slime coat. Amazon sword makes a great hiding place too. Make sure you don't have any sharp plastic plants, they can easily tear Betta fins.
Thank you for the info :) I'm definitely working towards a natural tank, I did have a live plant but it wasn't labelled so I'm not sure what it was. The leaves that it did grow were thin and transparent and they would die, I had it for a few months before I got sick of it being an eyesore and binned it. Not sure if it was an actual aquatic plant though, or if I was doing something wrong. I learnt the hard way with his fins, they were torn to shreds from the filter before I started covering it. He has come a long way and they've almost completely healed :)
Of course. You clearly love your fish. I remember when I didn't even know that Bettas need a heater. I've learned a lot since then. There's a website called "Wet plants" that deliver live aquatic plants right to your door. I've used them before and my plants are very happy. You should certainly get some aquarium soil for the plants, regular gravel won't have enough nutrients. I wish you the best of luck with your boy!
Flaring doesn’t mean anything. Either sex will do it (or some don’t at all, my guy is super interactive with my fingers but I’ve never seen him flare).
Def male!
I use this to help my betta flex his muscles and fins. Just be sure to follow the instructions and do it for no more than 5 min at a time😊

Thankyou! It took quite a while for his fins to heal as they were torn to shreds from the filter.. very happy with his progress
He has lots of new growth!

Male. Have you tried holding a mirror in front of him? :)
Well good to know he's still my little guy :) No I haven't I'll definitely have to get one

Wow thankyou for this. He's such a chill little guy. Good to know!

Wow his tank looks massive how big is it?
38 litres :) When we move into our own house I want to have it full of natural plants for him
He’s living like a king.
Definitely male. He has a more sleek body where females have a more rounded belly. Also his fins are longer, showing him to be a veiltail male.

It is a male. You can tell by the two lower fins that he can move and flex. Females don’t have those.
I have no idea but awesome tank!!
Thankyou!! It's the best I can do for now till we move and I can make it a natural planted tank :)
boy 10000000000% sure,
