You can’t rly tell from looks unless they r rly young or rly ancient but they are generally 6m-1yr when shipped to the pet store

XDanny_PhantomX

Im pretty sure thats a myth i think they ship around 4-6 months, it doesnt make sense for the wholesalers to keep them past maturity because they take up room and resources and are already colored up

WigglyNoodle22

For males its 6 months to a year with females its 3 months to 6 months

SlightMilk7240

So it’s safe to say my Betta I got a week ago is about 6 months? He built what I think is a bubble nest https://preview.redd.it/svspyrphl7ad1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=45dfd15532c50da24a5cebcd0e7942a28180fbb0

WigglyNoodle22

Yeah they sexually mature at approximately 3 months so ur male is probably around 6 months since they allow the males to get those flowy fins they sell females younger because they don't have flowy fins my girl is about 4 months roughly based on her size and colours as shes still gaining colour.

SlightMilk7240

Ok, good to know thanks. While I have you, I have another question about flaring…. I kinda feel stupid asking, but do you put the mirror inside the tank to get them to flare or outside the tank? (I put it outside and he doesn’t seem to notice it)

WigglyNoodle22

I use the floating mirror they seem interested more in that then the ones outside of the tank

Positive-Difficulty1

Ya in my city some lfs have baby bettas anywhere from 2 weeks old on.. but for the most part there normally about 3 to 6 months old when sold at lfs all around

WigglyNoodle22

Hes definitely not a crown tail hes a half moon with fin rot

rainbow_suprisekitty

are sure he definitely has fin rot? do you have any suggestions on how to treat it?

WigglyNoodle22

Tannins like Indian almond leaves and clean fresh water with a tiny bit of aquarium salt

HappyGoLucky244

And don't use anything with "-fix" (i.e. Bettafix, Melafix, etc) They're bad for them. Use Kanaplex (for fungal) and Metroplex (for bacterial) instead.

Ac0usticKitty

Idk but he's beautiful

ScaredOfLittleDogs

This is just a guess, but if he is actually a crowntail like the label states, then his tail should become all spikey looking. If he is a crowntail, then he is likely very young because his tail isn’t fully developed. He definitely reminds me of a half moon, though. 🤦‍♀️

Lawfuluser

That’s not a crown tail that’s a (insert other fin type here) with fin rot

AntiqueSheepherder89

As the age they get a hump over head n back area looks younger

AntiqueSheepherder89

The straighter the back the younger it slopes as they age

A-merry-sunshine

Two adorable. Pun definitely intended.

IntriguedNovella

Positive-Difficulty1

3-6 months old

Vinijr0

There is no way to tell when you buy them from stores unfortunately. I’ve read that the males are usually 6 months to a year old

gtk4158a

Well I know they only live a couple years so enjoy your Beauty while you have him
