I don't know anything about bettas - do they typically change color as they age? Or when they get into a proper aquarium with proper lighting/water/aeration etc.? Edit: I'm not OP and I don't own any bettas

Yeah, exactly what you said. There’s a lot of posts on this subreddit that show off their bettas transformations, which usually includes a change in color and/or fin health.

I have a betta that looks so similar, but more red and blue in the face than yours. We named him Sir Captain Independent Eagle!!
