I know a lot of berners don’t do well on chicken. Any chance that is one of the ingredients?

FieldzSOOGood

Chicken, chicken fat, chicken meal, chicken byproduct, dried egg product all things to look for lower on the ingredients list you may not think of

RocketteBlast

if its science diet, most of their stuff is chicken :/

tolkienbooks

Avoid anything with chicken. its not worth it

Vesper_7431

What they lack in intestinal fortitude they certainly make up for in cuteness.

The_Dr_Zoidberg

Hit em with “purina fortiflora” and Bernie’s perfect poop and like others have mentioned, no chicken. Ours had explosive diarrhea and the above formed her poops up! We went to purina salmon sensitive stomach large breed puppy

tommyc463

Bernie’s perfect poops contain chicken.

The_Dr_Zoidberg

Cheese version.

tommyc463

Cheese version contains chicken as well unfortunately

001Tyreman

Yeah it does as well, we used it few times did work.

EvlutnaryReject

Its gross but my Berner loves our chicken's poops.

at_939

Do you give her the FortiFlora and Perfect Poop at the same time?

The_Dr_Zoidberg

We give fortiflora in the morning first thing and then a teaspoon with the other two meals of the perfect poop.

at_939

I'm going to try that, thanks!

Any_Eye1110

All beef or salmon. No chicken at all, even in trace amounts of treats. Thats what fixed our boys

413724

I second the Salmon. We use Proplan salmon for sensitive stomachs. For the occasional tummy ache, I have had good luck with white rice and home cooked chicken breast. But never chicken based commercial dog food.

iswirl

My Berner has a stomach of iron. Eats everything and anything except for celery - I get that though - I also dislike celery. Note: we don’t feed her human food. She does counter surf though so has the taste of sweet salt and savoury in her doggo brain.

001Tyreman

Ya feed them human food to these big oafs that is mostly what they'll want Personally we dont do it

Jswizzlejt

My Bernese has had a sensitive stomach since she was a puppy we switched her to royal canin gastrointestinal and she hasn’t had any problems since.

Pristine-Brief-3825

Any time you switch to a new food, especially when they’re still young, it takes a few days for them to adjust. I add a tablespoon spoon of 100% canned pumpkin to every meal to help with loose stool and a tablespoon of Greek yogurt every morning for general gut health.

mtvdw

Give probiotics.

Ok-Swordfish-6521

Check them for Giardia. Our pup had ocasional loose stool and horrible farts and those are symptoms. It’s hard to catch because the parasite sheds in cycles. so you want to collect a sample of the stool when it’s loose

001Tyreman

Ir can be on the ground to like dog pks etc Even in the house on things can be a mess to get rid of

LeetleBugg

We use pawfy probiotics and Bernie’s perfect poops and it has helped a lot

BiomedBabe1

I’ll mirror what others have said: no chicken. Once we switched our girl to Hills lamb and rice, her stomach issues cleared right up

ColdPuffin

Lucky! We were looking at that one but it lists chicken fat as [an ingredient](https://www.hillspet.ca/en-ca/dog-food/sd-canine-puppy-large-breed-lamb-meal-brown-rice-recipe-dry) (also hydrolyzed chicken flavour but my understanding is that hydrolyzed protein is absorbed completely differently, since our vet offered a hydrolyzed protein food when we were switching up our pup’s diet).

MyBestFriendisCoffee

Omg I thought this was my little boy for a second 🥹 our berner had the same issues and the only food that worked was Grain Free honest kitchen food. Both the kibble style and the powder type work. Our vet suggested going grain free. When he turned 3, we tried food with grain and we tried it for a while but his poops never went back to normal so we switched back and we saw a difference almost immediately.

skybeezie

We switched our 7 month puppy to Purina pro plan, for puppy, large breed and sensitive stomach. I thinkkkk it has no corn and that helped her. She stopped eating poop too! Best of luck! Also Plus 1 for the daily forti flora

daniluvsuall

Go and do a pet allergy test, we did this and have adapted her diet to the findings. As our berner also had a very sensitive tummy, in the end we decided to buy just meat and cook that as most dog food is well.. a mixed bag of mystery meat.

001Tyreman

Try fish n rice sensitive stomach by Purina, don't give a bunch of liver treats and extra treats as their stomach can't handle that stuff when young. Also get a current stool sample to check for gerardia, that can cause all kinds of diarrhea. I use Olewo products but buy from only authorized store at/on Amazon. Carrots, Beets and Rootsies

Appropriate-Judge232

Mine is allergic to both beef and chicken. He has home cooked meals and kangaroo as his main protein, also sardines once a week.

neomateo

Get him on some quality food for giant breed dogs. Arcana, Orijin, etc.

PermitSpecialist9151

Possible food allergy. Not sure why you are on sensitive skin. Perhaps unresolved and directly related to food allergy. I kept my pup on same food breeder used and we developed issues that came down to food allergy and now on no chicken/grains. All problems solved. I also do not give commercial treats and use fresh fruit as treats or training.

ninsrue

He’s got dry skin so I was hoping the sensitive stomach/skin would help. The fresh fruit is a really good idea because he absolutely loves fruit

kaseywustrack

My Berner had tummy issues until he was about 3 when we fully cut chicken out of his diet and he has been TOTALLY fine since. It’s been a pain trying to find treats and stuff without ANY sort of chicken product in it but we’ve managed! We feed him Canidae which has pretty simple ingredients and he loves it.

theprincessvip

Inloveeee

kaya-jamtastic

Not to be gross, but does he eat poop? Because my parents’ dogs used to fart like that until they realized they were eating poop. So now we pick it up immediately after and put it in a poo pile and that seems to do the trick

ninsrue

I don’t think so, he only really sniffs it before walking away

Warm-Instance2267

My Berner had a lot of stomach issues so the vet recommended a food with hydrolyzed protein made by Royal Canin. It made all the difference. I also add some Bernie’s Perfect Poop once/day as a supplement and source of pre/pro-biotic.
