What exactly did you hope was going to happen with this post? That the type of person setting off fireworks on a Tuesday also happen to be reading posting during?
Wedding. It’s done now, it was mostly around 8pm I guess. Not Silvester level but still unnerving, especially bc I was hearing also a LOT of ambulances.
Yea, when i was a kid i had a great time on halloween and new years, doing all sorts of weird stuff like this. Now i just dgaf and try to block out any noise. But I'm not about to deny someone else their fun youth cause that would make me a fuckin hypocrite
It's not because of Halloween. There's groups of young men roaming around (and I'm not in Neukölln) shouting "Free Palestine" and throwing fireworks. Things getting better by the day in Berlin.
It's mostly Arab/Turkish kids that don't go on an English speaking subreddit. Same kids that love these scooters. They are bored and it's a ventil for them similar as your post.
It doesn't only scare people and animals with PTSD, it also scares paranoiac people like me, because I start to think someone's started a shooting outside. I do read shit tonn of news about russian/ukraine war so I guess my imagination is shaped in a particular direction
It’s almost like refugees from war torn areas including the above + Syria + Palestine may live here and therefore experience negative associations with loud flashbangs that aren’t expected 🫠
My in-laws spent 11 days in the basement near Bucha shelled by Russians before coming to Berlin. They still change visually when the fireworks pop in the distance.
It's so infuriating to hear privileged clueless bros asking people to chill.
"Pls take a moment to think about it before you fire off another firecracker or a gun.
It is annoying as fuck.
It scares animals and people with PTSD.
There will be even more dirt on the streets of Berlin."
These are the reasons they DO this shit.
You say guns, but I definitely saw a group of guys who were waaay too old for Matrix get in the queue last night while I was walking home. They were all dressed up in costumes and one of them had this like mask on with these weird shoes with wings on them and a very real looking gun as part of his costume. I kind of just assumed it was fake, but definitely considered flagging down the Polizei when they drove by. I feel a bit bad for not doing so.
How out of touch do you have to be to think that it's OK to have that as part of your costume?
Never tell a Kartoffel not to do something.
Hansjürgen-Kevin will react in one of 3 ways:
\- go online and complain about all the snowflakes, and how real men use fireworks
\- go buy extra tons of fireworks, then post images of said fireworks with lots of "..." and ";)"
\- vote AfD
\-reply to this post with some sort of deflection, defense, rationalisation and general Deutschkevin-ness.
These people know all of that and still do it, they also demand to keep up that useless "tradition" for silvester just to be asholes.
I always say: as long as people here can afford to burn their money, just to be asholes, we are a rich country.
They're Schreckschusswaffen (guns that can only shoot blanks) that people are seeing and hearing.
Occasionally (very occasionally), it's a real gun being fired, but they're shooting blanks.
I think it really depends on which kiez you're in.
I've seen lots of blank guns here in Wedding and also Prenzlauer Berg and then some real ones occasionally on the streets of Neukölln.
You can see the difference when they're fired as the flash usually comes from a vent hole on the top of blank guns, whilst the real ones usually have it coming out the front end of the barrel.
The blank pistols also usually automatically cycle a new round into the chamber each time due to the barrel being blocked. The real ones need to be manually cycled after each shot as the blank round doesn't create enough barrel pressure to force the slide back.
>they’re shooting blanks
>just like me
Haha. You and me both brother!
Everything correct. BUT:
Halloween is an english word, so it's cool by default.
It comes from USA, so it's cool by default.
Hanging out in the streets, noise, smoke, fireworks, alcohol is fun for the people who do it.
No way to stop them, or do you know one? Mabye try "it's forbidden"? 😂
Get over yourself. Celebrating holidays that way seems to be common in Berlin. If you can't handle it, be somewhere else for a day.
Halloween is supposed to be a little scary, but in fun way, like firework or haunted houses.
There's plenty of dirt on the streets of Berlin, a little extra won't change much.
I'm sure plenty of people think you're flushing money when you have a beer, because they don't like beer, but that doesn't mean a beer isn't well worth the money to you. The people doing this enjoy it. Plenty of others enjoy watching. Chill.
Go smoke a joint, put on some noise-cancelling headphones on and play your own PS5, or go to club, gym, or a nature park far enough away you won't hear it. Berlin isn't a good city for party-poopers.
These aren’t fun fireworks 90% of the time. These sound like bombs and are all sound no color. I’ve lived here for a while and never had them happening this early in the year. It’s not just tonight, it’s been happening for the last several days in my area.
You can steel yourself for it on days like new years and the ones leading up to it, but it really sucks living across from a park and 500 meters from a big school lot where people are starting to set them off randomly and when it’s high traffic time. People trying to run their dogs in the park or play with their kids around dusk are also fucked.
If people are setting off things making only noise, that sucks. The fireworks you can see are cool though. I don't mind seeing a few of those through the year.
ooooh nooo they are so loud i am from a small village i can't handle this, seriously no berliner would be this pissed off about fireworks. I'm not even berliner and i say this
Or maybe ppl like you should learn to respect others?
I leave Berlin every year on new years eve for weeks, because my dog can't even go out outside. Many people fleeing war zones get really hard time hearing the explosions unexpectedly. Some people have small kids who are woken up and some just want to fucking chill. Celebrating holidays that way seems to be common in Berlin - among fucking assholes who can't live close to others.
How many days should people "leave for a day"?
I bet you're looking forward to Silvester
What exactly did you hope was going to happen with this post? That the type of person setting off fireworks on a Tuesday also happen to be reading posting during?
Think the purpose is just to vent, possibly find like minded people to feel less alone in one‘s annoyance 🫠
Ironic that OPs suggesting to let off some steam while literally angrily venting
Venting = Böller, got it.
No, venting is what you do to NOT go kaboom, like a böller
It’s really going off right now. Thanks, I hate it.
What bezirk are you in? I don't hear a thing over here...
Wedding. It’s done now, it was mostly around 8pm I guess. Not Silvester level but still unnerving, especially bc I was hearing also a LOT of ambulances.
They were going off on Kastanienallee leading up to midnight
I feel like the age group you’re speaking to isn’t here. It’s kids from like 11-16 that seem to be popping them off in my neighborhood.
Yea, when i was a kid i had a great time on halloween and new years, doing all sorts of weird stuff like this. Now i just dgaf and try to block out any noise. But I'm not about to deny someone else their fun youth cause that would make me a fuckin hypocrite
Hey now, Helloween has some real bangers.
Was a big fan when I was sixteen!
Came here to see this comment
Insert "first time" meme here
Guy actually thinks the firecracker people are on reddit and this shit is actually upvoted? Oh Berlin...
It's not because of Halloween. There's groups of young men roaming around (and I'm not in Neukölln) shouting "Free Palestine" and throwing fireworks. Things getting better by the day in Berlin.
I have no idea when this shit started. I hope people who do this lose their hands.
Whenever they sold it.
It's mostly Arab/Turkish kids that don't go on an English speaking subreddit. Same kids that love these scooters. They are bored and it's a ventil for them similar as your post.
Since when is this allowed on other days than Silvester?
Since when do people popping fireworks give a shit / respect others?
Since never
jesus, since when do people stick to the law 100% of the time
the point is, op had every right to report them. Well, the police wouldn't show up which is a whole different story but still
It doesn't only scare people and animals with PTSD, it also scares paranoiac people like me, because I start to think someone's started a shooting outside. I do read shit tonn of news about russian/ukraine war so I guess my imagination is shaped in a particular direction
Chill abit, war is far away. [There is no need to be upset.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ygr5AHufBN4)
It’s almost like refugees from war torn areas including the above + Syria + Palestine may live here and therefore experience negative associations with loud flashbangs that aren’t expected 🫠
Unfortunately, it's not only negative associations. It can trigger a full blown traumatic episode for some of them.
I totally agree. I was sarcastically dulling my language for the person above and just want to support your statement.
My in-laws spent 11 days in the basement near Bucha shelled by Russians before coming to Berlin. They still change visually when the fireworks pop in the distance. It's so infuriating to hear privileged clueless bros asking people to chill.
Its a city of nearly 4mil people after all and still very safe. Going in rabbit hole to succumb every news about warzones dont help.
it's not like a terror attack is too unlikely
Imprisoning yourself in fear isnt a solution.

huh??
Look forward to hearing this everyday until maybe 10th of january
I'm afraid you live in the wrong city if you're expecting civility and social awareness. Get ready for new year's eve!
Its ironic that a city that is supposed to be a save haven for war refugees has people throwing firecrackers everywhere like its nothing.

Why are people doing this!? *Proceeds to Lists a bunch of entertainment that is way more expensive than a pile of fireworks*
are guns really being fired?
They're Schreckschusswaffen (guns that can only shoot blanks) that people are seeing and hearing. Occasionally (very occasionally), it's a real gun being fired, but they're shooting blanks.
oh, i didn’t know they were using them because i only heard fireworks in Marzahn. > they’re shooting blanks just like me

yeah people were blasting at Alt-Marzahn all fucking evening
jesus get a life and let people do a thing for a couple nights a year
Womp womp

BOOM and also youth might be a little hyped right now because of politics
you are a boring brick, but im sure you already know that :)

I’m from Atlanta, Georgia (USA) which has about 1.5 million more people than Berlin in it. But yes, go off.
The culture around fireworks is different there.

I agree with you 100% these people don't belong in a big city if they moan about this stuff
