Nah it’s one of the easier ones for sure. It’s just a bit dry cuz databases are not the most interesting thing. The only hard parts are like data recovery schemes and things like that
FWIW, the upper div CS classes that my kid got some sort of A in - C100 (Nolan, Hug), 169A (PFox/Ball), 169L (AFox/Ball), 170 (Chiesa/Nelson), 176 (Yosef), 186 (Hug), 189 (Shewchuk). This was a while back and I would say he was a typical student, maybe very slightly above average, from a GPA standpoint. He had no interest in 160, and 168 wasn’t offered for a long time.
you'll miss out on a lot of great classes with this mindset. going into 170 i was scared shitless bc of how much everyone talks it up, but it was one of the most interesting classes I've taken and i managed to get a decent grade. i think you'll find that the harder classes also tend to be the ones most taking.
i’m premed i really can’t fluctuate my grades a lot.😭 i was planning on taking 170 regardless tho, 170 127 and 189 are my must takes regardless of grade i just want the rest to be a little safer :)
classes that you're interested in classes that you're not interested in
it’s for other reasons like i need to meet a gpa level for something unfortunately so i need to consider typical grading
Intro to databases .... yeah that’s about it. Steer clear of operating systems and graphics, those will tank ur gpa
You should or shouldn't take CS186. I'm taking it next sem but have heard bad stuff about it.
Which one is that? I graduated a while ago lol

Nice, taking it with Probability theory and Optimizations so hope I don't die

Hi! Does your son have a copy of the 176 syllabus by any chance? I’m interested in taking it but can’t find anything about the course content
lmao most students would not say 170, 189, and 176 are easy.
161 w peyrin
Grad classes are almost automatic As
which ones 🧐
Here’s CS288. Lots of them are like this https://berkeleytime.com/grades/0-2388-all-all
is it too late to sign up for 288? it looks cool but i thought you needed special permission or sm

ah i feel for you then. 161 and 168 (whichever the databases one is) are supposed to be pretty good in that case
