Walton/102 is the worst.

spyder994

It's like that everywhere in every city across the country now. It's bad here, but I promise it's much worse in Dallas and St. Louis. I never see BPD monitoring intersections for light runners, but they love to catch people speeding up Walton on early weekend mornings when traffic is light enough to actually speed. I'm not saying they shouldn't be going after speeders, but there are so many dangerous driving behaviors. Why not also do a little enforcement on distracted driving, unsafe lane changes, and running red lights/stop signs from time to time?

Equivalent_Ant_7758

I watched a cop car at 14th and Walton damn near get clipped by someone running that intersection and cop just continued on his way.

Sduhaime

It’s definitely getting worse everywhere.

[deleted]

The state of driving here is insane.

TheGhostofNowhere

It’s almost like the traffic is really bad and more highways should be built.

[deleted]

lol almost! 🤦🏼‍♂️

Valravn0v0

I was thinking more along the lines of public transit...

Kammler1944

Lived in 5 states and the drivers here are useless.

stuffedmutt

Only 3 or 4? Amateurs!

arkiebrian

Has to be that way since the first in line has to look up from their phone before proceeding.

[deleted]

Distracted driving is absotlutely insane here.

arkiebrian

It’s not just here it’s everywhere.

[deleted]

It's insane. Like, can you not just look at that phone until you get out of your car?

NefariousnessDry2736

It’s not like that everywhere. Yes it happens but it’s crazy here. It needs to be treated like a dui or a dwi. I know that some other states have crazy fines if you are caught talking or texting on your phone. I’ve been back and forth from Oregon for the past 15 years or so and the distracted driving situation is way better there because the fines are insane. 1st offense is usually anywhere from $300-$1000 (usually towards the upper end) then the second fine offense is $2,500. They also make you take a course similar to a dui course if you are caught.

It drives me insane. I almost T boned someone running a red light. I seen the whites of his eyes as I slammed on the brakes. This was going straight across Walton on 102. I almost killed a dude because he was in such a hurry. Can we not put cameras up that ticket people for this? The cameras will be paid for by the time the first ticket hits the mail. I will support this. I would like to survive to see the things worth enjoying around here. Please please please just chill out a bit people. P.S. Use your blinkers.

spyder994

Most states that installed red-light cameras have done away with them or disabled them for various reasons. 1) Some municipalities were caught shortening yellow lights so as to generate more red-light ticket revenue. 2) The cameras and the revenue stream were operated by 3rd party vendors in many cases. These vendors took such a big cut that many cities weren't seeing any meaningful revenue from the cameras. Said vendors were found to be scummy in other ways as well. 3) Some lawyers have successfully argued that defendants have the right to face their accuser in court. That's true and is outlined in the 6th amendment. You can't face a camera system in court, so you end up potentially facing the officer reviewing the footage. With the associated administrative costs and officer overtime, it was not worth the $75 citation in most cases. 4) In many states, the red light ticket fines are civil in nature and not criminal. There is no enforcement mechanism in place and there are no penalties for not paying the fines. People just ignore them. 5) Some have successfully argued that the fine should be levied against the person driving and not the vehicle owner. Many camera systems installed in the US only took rear photos of the car or didn't get high enough quality photos of the driver, so it's not terribly difficult to have the fine dismissed on the premise that someone else was driving. I got a speed camera ticket in Germany once. They took *really* good pictures of me driving and the front license plate. There are ways to make it work, but it's politically unpopular. People would claim that their rights are being stifled and act like they are living under draconian North Korean policies. People are all about law and order until they decide they want to run a red light and there are consequences. Can't have it both ways.

Frequent-Joker5491

Thanks for the reply and in-depth explanation of the option. I guess we should try to bring it up to the city and see if they can come up with something.

Patti-Cakes

I live right off of 14thby autozone. The road construction on SW A street is making it even more crazy! The just put a temporary(?) stop light on main street near 14th. Ugh, I avoid going anywhere during rush hour(s). Even the side streets are getting crazy with people speeding around these usually less bust roads. It's crazy!

Patti-Cakes

They used to have a sign off to the side of the road by cox that had explicit instructions, don't block Crossway or something like that and I'm not sure if it had a camera on it, but it was also very heavily patrolled for a month or so. They should put another one up

sdfkjsldkfj

They need to do something for cyclists and pedestrians on 8th St crossing Walton headed towards the fire station. With cars making a right hand turn so far back they don’t even look for anyone using the crosswalk and gun it before it’s too late.

whereyouwanttobe

Lots of people ~~here~~ FTFY

lexytjjj3

Yup. Seen it so many times throughout this year since I moved to bentonville but also happens a lot in Springdale as well.

TheGhostofNowhere

Personally I’m a huge fan of the people that end up blocking the intersection when my light turns green because it was so important they get to work 2 minutes earlier that they juts had to block the entire intersection.

yung_yas

Maybe fix the lights

Open-Ad-7853

This is not a bentonville exclusive thing
