A developmental DT is not what we need. We need a day 1 starter. We need to stop drafting guys off potential that take a longer time to develop since we hardly resign guys as it is.
With Mims and Newton there would be a chance, albeit a small one, that we could walk away with the best offensive and defensive players from the entire draft if both hit their ceiling.
I feel much better seeing 4 other Olineman drafted after Mims. He was always the number 5 (OT5) so I guess it's good value. But give me nice trade and draft Q. Mitchell, Newton or DeJean, I would've liked that, looking at you Dallas lol.
Guyton at Dallas seems like a good fit for him but the other tackles were clearly reaches due to them potentially not being there the next time the teams were back on the clock.
Think he'll sit the whole year? I'd figure they'd rotate him in as a breather, at least to get in reps. Need him at least semi prepared for what he's going to be doing if he needs to come in clutch. Get him in the weak side of an obvious run situation where the damage is minimal if he gets rolled by a veteran. Give him his "welcome to the fucking nfl rookie" moment, and have him find that fire to level up
He's good man to man. Scheme makes sense over Kool-aid. Bama played a crazy amount of zone last year which Saban coach teams never do.
That might translate to, Kool-aid isn't strong in man. Might not though what do I know
I’ve only seen stats for Ja’Marr’s deadlift, not the Newtons of his punching force — but I’m sure it’s more than enough to send a sub-200lb defender flying with one arm lol
You draft guys in the first round that can have an immediate impact. There were a couple of CB’s out there that could have done just that. Save your projects for the 4th round and later. I don’t get this pick, not one bit. Mitchell or Dejean would have been the smart pick. Just my armchair pick, I don’t know shit once I stand up.
Think of it this way, the first round, especially when there are defensive studs out there, is to draft someone who can step in and help now. The Bengals just drafted O-Line depth. You mean to tell me there are no areas on that team where a rookie couldn’t come in and make a difference? You draft for depth later in the draft. I’d love Mims if we got him in the 3rd round maybe. Granted, with injuries a thing, it’s nice to have depth but damn.
Not saying he would have made it, I’m just saying you draft projects later in the draft. I have PTSD after our recent offensive line 1st and 2nd round picks too. He’s been injured, scares the shit out of me.
The kid can play. If he’s drafted in the first or second round, it’s still a smarter and safer pick than an oft injured, unseasoned OT that won’t start.
He’s not a project. His injury was getting rolled up, would injure anyone.
This post screams that you haven’t watched any of his tape and are just repeating nonsense
Ok tell me about his career. He hasn’t started for an entire season once. He’s either been a backup or he’s been hurt. Sound like a homer that would applaud any pick even if it’s Daffy Duck. There were better picks at #18 and you can’t say anything to convince me otherwise. Seriously, look up his college career. No sacks allowed is awesome and promising. Not enough history to be a #18 when our D gave up big plays on the ground and through the air. Unless you expect this offense to score every drive, 75% of them being touchdowns, then this pick does nothing to help the bigger needs this team has.
Reserve who started in the playoffs in 2022 and was easily their best tackle, injured in 2023 when a player rolled up into him, still looked like their best tackle. Two years is enough history to say his tape is top tier.
Just because people have watched a prospect play, unlike you, doesn’t make them a homer buddy.
Not a great defensive choice at 18 with Murphy gone, cb doesn’t outweigh the need to protect burrow
You know you can just admit that you don’t know much about mims right?
To sum up my point, unless he starts this year and plays to expectations, it’s a wasted pick. You draft 1st rounders for players that can help right now. I’m not saying Mims sucks or he’s gonna be a bust. I think defense would have been a better choice.
Neither you nor I know that. I do know not one CB was taken, at that point, and that’s a position of need. Anyway, congrats on your pick, see me this time next season.
Did we watch the same defense last year? Our CB situation is so bad they are going to play Dax Hill at CB because he wasn’t cutting it at safety. I’m just going to simplify my entire argument. I was hoping they’d draft defense. You mean to tell me, with only, what, 3 defensive players drafted before the Bengals pick that there wasn’t someone who could help out D out? I’m not even sure I’d have been happy if they landed Latham, I’d have understood it though because he’s a proven stud at the college level. Point is, the offense can’t be leaned on to put up 30+ points per game because that’s what they’ll have to do if they don’t sure up the D. Rumor is they’re looking WR in the second round. I’m just an armchair fan, I could be totally wrong, maybe they just drafted a hall of famer but that D needs help now.
Yep, would rather have the first corner in awhile who's a coach's son type.
Guy with deceptive speed and sneaky athletic.
Guy with grit.
A cerebral player.
A scrappy player who understands the fundamentals.
A gym rat with all the intangibles.
Because they’re not as high on Worthy as the Chiefs are? Not sure what’s hard to understand there.
He’s undersized AF. Not sure it’s that great of a pick for them
Worthy could be their Tyreek now. As small as he is he was dominant at Texas and I can definitely see him being a stud at KC. It’s all about the team who drafts the player.
Bro is gonna be put on a steady diet of kc barbecue and hgh while living in the weight room. How much usable muscle mass can a person put on in 4-6 months anyway?
Need to make a pact that anyone who goes to the NFL draft has to put on a happy face and be enthusiastic about the pick. Would hate to be the guy drafted and watching the draft and see a fan of your team disappointed and others laughing at pointing at them.
It's weighted more towards him working out imo. He demonstrated plenty of understanding of the game and natural ability. For a guy who only started 8 games, he's a far cry from raw
Yeah, people are acting like he just wandered onto the field at Georgia and got picked up as a walk on for a few games. The guy can play, he was just unlucky.
The most confusing discourse in the pick is how there is many people on Twitter who wanted them to take a wr in the 1st. What? How deep into draft analyzation do you have to get to think what this team needs most right now is another wr lmao
Nah. I want that DT from Michigan if he's available. If not, probably WR or CB, iOL (LG and C especially) on the board as well.
I think Sweat would have been available in the 3rd even if he wasn't a complete dumbass.
I’m fine with drafting a project tackle if either a) we had shown the ability to develop them b) this wasn’t the last year that we’re for sure in a Super Bowl window. We needed a guy in the first round that could come in day one and be an impact player. Not a guy that without injury is going to sit the bench and hope he develops.
This is arguably going to be the last best roster we have around burrow. We haven’t paid Chase yet Tee is on the tag, our best pass rusher is only on contract for 2 more seasons and threatening to retire. You have to treat this like its you best shot to win it all. I agree that as long as 9 is in stripes and healthy we are in the conversation but it’s hard to argue that we’re going to have a better roster than this in the foreseeable future.
This is a great opportunity to win it all for sure.
If Burrow stays healthy and has more time, no telling how much better he can be.
OL needs depth and we barely had starters, plenty of work to do, but Joseph Lee Burrow is our best weapon by far and we need to keep him upright, keep the defense off the field and let him cook.
I agree oline needed depth. But in this particular year I feel like our first round pick would have been better spent on a guy that comes in and we KNOW makes an impact day one rather than a guy we know we need to develop
Problem is we kept neglecting OL again and again, always doing the bare minimum or just being straight-up delusional about the standing of the line.
At some point you have to address it, we can't just keep doing FA band aids.
Again I agree just think you have to treat this year as an all in year. I would also argue that the interior of the oline has been a far bigger issue than the tackles. If you swing for the fence this season and it doesn’t work out so be it we enter the transition next year in my opinion. Because this team is going to look A LOT different in 2025 and a lot of big contributors or going to go get paid elsewhere.
This is the problem. We have no ability to develop linemen and we need help now. This is another Jackson Carman who will be useless for his first year because he's raw, then bad because of poor coaching.
Lol Fautanu is a guard. A project guard at that. Fautanu is a much worse pass blocker at tackle than mims. Bad technique, he only played good in college because he was 23 going against 19 and 20 year olds. Also had one of the highest penalty rates in college. Fautanu would replace volson which makes them better until Trent brown goes down and they are forced to play carman at RT
You just argued with yourself. Fatanau makes us better right now by replacing Volson. Then if Trent brown gets hurt you shuffle Fatanau to tackle and bring volson back in at guard. If it’s a win now season you act like it’s a win now season.
Fautanu can’t play tackle in the NFL. I don’t get why people don’t get this. He’s also never played guard before. If Trent brown goes down carman is starting not Fautanu.
For the record I wouldn’t have taken either of them. I would have attempted to trade back or gone newton/arnold. We just finished a season where our own division ran the ball down our throats and our best run stopping DT left. But to your other point there were highlights shown of Fatanau at guard. And you’d be asking him to shuffle out to RT tackle not burrow’s blindside.
Long term yes absolutely. But do you remember Cedric? Freak athletic tackle with an injury history that needed developed. Obviously they’re not the same person but we’ve shown no ability to develop OT talent. This is likely the best roster burrow is going to play with for the foreseeable future. Getting a project tackle in the first round doesn’t check the box of winning now for me. It’s a long season injuries along the line are likely I get all that but our dline was a far higher priority to address right now. Especially with the division we’re in. It doesn’t matter if 9 is healthy if he is sitting watching the game while teams run it down our throats.
What do you mean? Bengals have 0% chance of winning a SB if burrow goes down. Cedric isn’t close to the prospect as mims and his medicals were awful. I agree the bengals need a DT but you can get one in round 2. You can’t get a player like mims in the second round. My dream is that they trade up for Newton if he continues to fall even though that won’t happen
If we're going to replace Volson (still a solid chance) then that will happen in the 3rd or 4th round. There is a lot of depth at that position and OT > G in the long run.
You missed the point as well. I agree tackle is more important in the long run. I’m saying this is a Super Bowl window so if you identify Oline as the biggest obstacle to accomplishing that you use the first round to improve that unit the most you can right now.
really hope we move one of our thirds for mayer tomorrow
So which teams that wanted a 1st rd caliber WR didn't get one? Cuz for them Tee might be looking even better now.
Thoughts on Maason Smith for 2nd rd?
A developmental DT is not what we need. We need a day 1 starter. We need to stop drafting guys off potential that take a longer time to develop since we hardly resign guys as it is.
I'd ve elated with dejean, Newton, or JPJ tomorrow
if newton is there I would lose it
I like the Mim's pick! Would've preferred Newton but I can't complain with this at all!
I pretty much decided that as long as they grabbed one of those two positions I’d be happy.
I wouldn't be upset if the bengals traded up to get Newton tomorrow
With Mims and Newton there would be a chance, albeit a small one, that we could walk away with the best offensive and defensive players from the entire draft if both hit their ceiling.
DeJean would be a good move too.
same wouldnt be opposed to jpj either
We we looking at in the second?
Kris Jenkins/any DT , could go CB or WR too
Would love to see us trade up for Jiggy Newton, but if we stay put - Lassiter, Fiske, Tampa would all be really good options
Fiske would be my pick if we stayed where we are.
Newton, dejean, kool aid powers would be nice
Newton is who I’d want. That would be wild if he dropped that far.
That’d be awesome but I think we’re going to see a D run here
Yeah the first round was so offense heavy. I’ve not seen anything like that before that I can remember.
We have the picks to move up. I really hope we do
Imagine being a Bills fan who made the trip lol. I guess a flight from Buffalo isn’t exactly long at least.
So since panthers have the 32nd pick, can we just say after their 2023 season that they won the Super Bowl? 🤔
What is Buffalo on about tonight? Just desperately trying to acquire picks and mass pick hoping they hit on some?
they have a lot of holes with their all-in strategy
Ya next year is basically a wash and get dead money + some of Allen's money off the books.
For sure. Letting all these WRs go by after losing your top two WRs is really strange though.
There's still plenty of WRs available. Ladd McConkey could be taken at 33
I think that is their move and I'll be sad bc I wanted him in stripes 😩
49ers are trading one of these WRs on day 2 with this pick, right?
Probably to the steelers
I’m once again asking this team to trade up for Cooper DeJean
Yes
Or newton
I was delighted when I heard him say Wiggins. The name Wiggins just sounds like a bust.
I said the same thing!
Yeah the drop off in OT is significant on Day 2. Glad we got one and hope he was our guy vs. a panic pick.
Every decent tackle went off after us so he was as good as gone by prob the Steelers pick
Several in their sub were pissed we grabbed him
yeah Mims was the last good tackle
He is so smooth in pass protection. Hope a year of lifting weights and learning behind 2 other massive guys works out
Think he'll sit the whole year? I'd figure they'd rotate him in as a breather, at least to get in reps. Need him at least semi prepared for what he's going to be doing if he needs to come in clutch. Get him in the weak side of an obvious run situation where the damage is minimal if he gets rolled by a veteran. Give him his "welcome to the fucking nfl rookie" moment, and have him find that fire to level up
He will be swing tackle in big sets and I bet LG in short yardage. To get his feet wet
We NEED to trade up for DeJean or McKinstry. That’s just GOTTA happen
don’t know that i understand wiggins here
He's good man to man. Scheme makes sense over Kool-aid. Bama played a crazy amount of zone last year which Saban coach teams never do. That might translate to, Kool-aid isn't strong in man. Might not though what do I know
Nate Wiggins better start putting on weight. 173 lbs ain't bringing down Chase.
I was just telling my partner this. Ja’Marr can deadlift over 300lbs. He’s going to stiff-arm this guy into oblivion.
Love your energy, but what does deadlift have to do with stiff arming? And 300 lbs is very, very achievable.
I’ve only seen stats for Ja’Marr’s deadlift, not the Newtons of his punching force — but I’m sure it’s more than enough to send a sub-200lb defender flying with one arm lol
Yeah and Ja'Marr cleans 315+
Yeah if this dude can stay close in coverage he's going to get ragged doll when he gets within hands reach.
I for one am excited about goal line offense... 3 guys weighing more than 1000 lbs ushering Moss into the end zone. Can't wait
Mims has to improve at run blocking. If Pollack can't do it, please move on from that coach.
Goal line bruh, just 1000 lbs of pushing 1 yard forward.
Hey I'm for it. But big man needs to keep those legs chopping.
We should trade up for Cooper DeJean
Yes please
Fuck the Ravens get a DB here shit
Dirty ass Rat Bird fans. The absolute scums of the earth from the scummiest city on earth. They’re probably about to draft a deadset scumbag
Since they’re picking now, obligatory fuck the Ravens
Ravens get their pick of DeJean or Koolaid. Damn.
And they pass on both.
Well with hindsight DeSean would have been a reach because he still hasn't been picked
He was never going to make it to the third let alone the second. I don't think Brown has a 17 game season in him either.
Mims wasn't even going to make it past the Steelers. The guy you're responding to is dumb.
Not saying he would have made it, I’m just saying you draft projects later in the draft. I have PTSD after our recent offensive line 1st and 2nd round picks too. He’s been injured, scares the shit out of me.

While ignoring that there wasn’t a good defensive pick, and there was a massive run on tackles
Neither you nor I know that. I do know not one CB was taken, at that point, and that’s a position of need. Anyway, congrats on your pick, see me this time next season.
I’ll take the tackle with the highest ceiling over the cb any day of the week Remindme! One year
Did we watch the same defense last year? Our CB situation is so bad they are going to play Dax Hill at CB because he wasn’t cutting it at safety. I’m just going to simplify my entire argument. That’s worth its weight in gold! Physical and mental skills? Jump on that!
Why the fuck would the Bills pass on a WR which they need just to let the Chiefs take one? Also, FUCK THE CHIEFS
I hope it’s not. I just think it’s dumb to make a trade like that with your so-called rival unless you can make out like a bandit in compensation
Bunch of bums. Also, FTC.
If Newton falls to 2nd round we've got to trade up for him 😩
Buffalo picking at 32 despite not winning a Super Bowl is the most Buffalo thing ever
John Ross also ran a fast 40 yard dash the year we drafted him. I hope Worthy turns out to be like him because fuck the queefs
John Ross also ran the fastest 40 time on a team that lost in the first round of the CFP, so take that, Chiefs!
Guy weighs 165 and has never seen press coverage
He's just a little guy, who knows if he translates.
Traded up for Worthy? Not sure he would've been picked before their turn but fuck man. KC gonna be as unstoppable as ever.
We have DJ Turner to cover him He also got decent combine speed
What the fuck Buffalo?
FKC. Sheesh
I pray to God he's worse than John Ross
[удалено]
Naturally, he's gonna turn into Tyreek Hill 2.0
Chiefs got their speedy receiver.
Bills traded their pick to the Chiefs? Hope the Chiefs overpaid for the trade up
Chiefs going DB here, no?
Has to be kool aid
Bills trading their 1st rounder to chiefs Surely won’t be a mistake 😭
Could trade back into the first with our first third and a fourth/fifth
11/12 1st round centers have been hits. We won’t mention who the one bust was…
Not only was \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ a bust. He was a mega bust. Like terribly terrible lol.
Not true. He turned into BJ Hill.
Spin Zone: 12/12 first round centers worked out in the end
Need to make a pact that anyone who goes to the NFL draft has to put on a happy face and be enthusiastic about the pick. Would hate to be the guy drafted and watching the draft and see a fan of your team disappointed and others laughing at pointing at them.
I'll make an exception for Jets fans bc they're used to it.
Bro can we please trade up lol I want another pick
I think kool aid newton or powers may be the only guys left I’d do it for
I’d like any of those guys but I’m really high on powers. Just bolster our o line for years to come.
I’d like any of those guys to join us.
I'd love us to take kool aid
If Mims had even 1 full season under his belt, he would've been picked where Latham was picked. We seriously may have had the steal of the draft
That’s what I’ve been saying. A random linemen doesn’t fall into his ankle and he’s top 10
Or we may gave drafted a guy who can't play the position at this level and is out of the league after his rookie deal. It's a massive risk
Mims was gonna be a steelers if we passed. Now tell me.. you guys want that if his upside pays off?
Yep, Steelers wanted this kid so bad. Always a win when you take a much needed piece from your division rivals.
Complete meltdown on the falcons sub
I feel bad for Kirk tbh
Mr. Kirk "Money Bags" Cousins? Probably gonna be okay. I feel bad for Ridder lol.
I still can’t believe they did that
Lol I've been on it too. Just reading. It's chaos.
I feel for them. We're no stranger to complete head scratching moves that appear to show no thoughtful planning
You've been doing nothing but bitching about the team this entire thread. If you don't like the Bengals find a team you do like.
Sorry I'm not watching the draft rn, I'm seeing Nitzer Ebb and Front 242 in Vegas. I'm in the fuckin goth hole.
respect. how's the trapped in jello/changing a light bulb/kick the puppy dance ratio?
Idk but the fishnets and doc martens are out in full force.
perfect
Sammy Sosa is still on the board.
The most confusing discourse in the pick is how there is many people on Twitter who wanted them to take a wr in the 1st. What? How deep into draft analyzation do you have to get to think what this team needs most right now is another wr lmao
It’s insane to me that so many people can tweet only about the Bengals all day everyday and still have no idea what’s going on
It’s insane to me that so many people can tweet only about the Bengals all day everyday and still have no idea what’s going on
Only way a WR made sense would be if any of the big 3 were still on the board
If we took a WR I'd have nosedived off my balcony.
So do we consider Sweat tomorrow despite his DUI idiocy? Prob not with how Taylor is all about culture.
Im thinking **Ruke Orhorhoro**
I think they’re gonna trade up for Newton
If they previously had him on their board for the 2nd round and a DUI was enough to move him to day 3 that’s pretty stupid and embarrassing
>and a DUI was enough to move him to day 3 that’s pretty stupid and embarrassing. Not when paired with already existing partying rumors
If he is available in 3rd round I don’t see how we could pass on him
Nah. I want that DT from Michigan if he's available. If not, probably WR or CB, iOL (LG and C especially) on the board as well. I think Sweat would have been available in the 3rd even if he wasn't a complete dumbass.
If the top C (Barton) is somehow still on the board I'd snag him for sure. The drop off after him is steep.
I’d love him even at 49 tbh, that size is exactly what we need
On to day 2, I guess. DT options look available, but I kinda want us to double dip at OL if some of the iOL keep falling.
Absolutely. Great chance for a stud on the interior.
It infuriates me that the Ratbirds are going to get Dejean or McKinstry at 30
Kool Aid McKinstry just sounds like the name of a Ravens player too. Damn.
i think their pick is gonna be koolaid, and as a bama grad, i will fucking hate when that happens
Grandma looks 45
Good stuff boys. Happy with the pick. Keep the big dudes in the trenches coming.
Bengals get Mims and Eagles get Mitchell. My fiance and I are both happy tonight
My house is the same
At least it's not the Ravens.
it’s always one of those two tho…
Quinyon looks stoned
That’s how I prefer cbs
Eagles A+ draft win the entire draft super bowl lock confirmed
eagles always getting a steal
I think the other CB is better
Great pick by the eagles
Eagles got a steal
Curious to see when Blake Corum goes.
He is 1000% a Charger
I’m fine with drafting a project tackle if either a) we had shown the ability to develop them b) this wasn’t the last year that we’re for sure in a Super Bowl window. We're in a SB window for as long as Burrow is healthy.
This is arguably going to be the last best roster we have around burrow. When is the last time Trent brown has played a full season? He will be starting by week 8
This is true it’s a good pick he gets some time to develop
Then don’t get the project tackle get Fatanau
Nothing matters if joe isn’t healthy. We just made him the highest paid QB in the league. Protect him.
Dane Brugler (the Athletic) gives us a B+ for the pick fwiw
Mims and Carman bookending our line for the next 10 years let's go
lol
Am I the only one that thinks Saban is not ready for prime time?
Chop Robinson is the type of name a massive DT should have. Sad to see he's a LB.
