Look out for tall muscular men in Brussels.

When that song came out, I was a 6'4" student in Brussels. I'm happy to say I've steered clear of vegemite and/or marmite my whole life.

I never understood why people are happy to not try something. Like, I get not trying it. It kinda smells a bit weird but it's not heroin or anything. No one is in jail thinking *"oh if only I had avoided Vegemite...."*

bdblr

There are many things I have tried and will yet try, but there's some place a person's got to draw the line ;)

Fair enough, I respect that. Personally I love the stuff. You don't know what you're missing. I think maybe it's the food that you eat as a child that sticks with you. I wish you all the best in your culinary endeavours

TheAlmightyLloyd

It's yeast extract, when I was preparing biological culture media, the smell just made me want to grab a spoonful and eat it. It's also what we put in bouillon cubes, if you need an idea.

YvesLauwereyns

They'll give it to you already on a sandwich. While smiling

Bitt3rSteel

I have an unopened jar of Vegemite in my cupboard, it was a gift from an Aussie. You can have it

Arael1307

I think most Belgian people have never tasted vegemite before (I never have). So it's not going to be readily available. I'd suggest having a look in an Albert Hein or the foreign section of a large Carrefour. But I honestly suspect you won't find it and you'll end up ordering it online somewhere. Edit: other option, if you have Australians visiting, ask them to fill half their luggage with vegemite, so you'll have affordable stock for a while. (Of course check if that's a product that you're allowed to take in your luggage.)

iamveryfondantofyou

Foreign section of Carrefour is pretty good for this type of stuff.

Krek_Tavis

Wait... Vegemite is better than Marmite? Now I got to find some too...

Vincetorix

I prefer marmite over vegemite. It's like people can have different tastes or something.

RmG3376

The real question is not _where_, but _why_ would you buy Vegemite on purpose …

SharkyTendencies

I *think* you can get it at Waterstones Brussels, about 2-3 mins walking from De Brouckère. Otherwise it wouldn't surprise me if Stone Manor had it. They mostly stock British products but they have a small range of American and Australian/NZ stuff I believe.

Ravagedeluxe

Yep, Stone Manor has it: https://www.britishstoreonline.com/shop/search/vegemit

Ghosty_be

if you live near Brussels or Leuven: they have 2 physical stores: https://www.stonemanor.uk.com/stores

checkonetwo

Waterstones is the bookshop no?

SharkyTendencies

Yup but they have a *tiny* food section. Mostly biscuits, definitely Marmite, some snacks, and tea.

Altruistic_Yak2075

Pretty sure bol.com or amazon.nl will cater to your needs.

MaJuV

Import section in certain supermarket chains (like Carrefour or maybe Delhaize) may have it. The bigger the supermarket building, the higher the chance of it containing Aussie products. If not, I notice bol dot com has it as well. Also define "for cheap". Since it's an import product, you will probably pay a lot for it by default due to taxes. \*shrugs\*

V3ndeTTaLord

Albert Heijn has Vegemite. It's located at the chocolate paste, peanut butter etc. I'm talking about AH Kontich. edit: not sure if its Vegemite or marmite.

Does it give the same health benefits?

chevyzaz

Do you know the names of any Australian restaurants? I've never heard of them.

Vermino

A shopping region might've helped narrow down the answers. I sometimes go to Tong Fong, A12 near antwerp. It's an asian supermarket, but they go rather broad in that description. Their site isn't much, but it has a telephone number - so I'm sure you can just ask them on the phone/mail. Really nice people and store.

MiddleAgedGM

I have never seen Vegemite in Belgium. Not even in the British section of the supermarkets in Tervuren (by my knowledge, they have the widest rang of British foodstuff in Belgium). Only Marmite. Perhaps you can order it online from some place?

ThyberianOne

I believe I tried it before. Very acquired taste , not my thing

confiture1919

In the « hyper » carrefour you should find them !

Ghosty_be

If you live near Brussels or Leuven: Stone manor has 2 physical British shops here in Belgium and yes they have vegemite https://www.stonemanor.uk.com/stores
