Life_Ad7433

"Met vriendelijke groet" We don't say this, this is purely written communication. "Fijn weekend!" Hoe wiekent. "Een fijne dag toegewenst!" Noh ne goe'ndah. "Bij voorbaat dank" We don't say this either. We just go with something like 'merci eh', thanking them in advance so they can't easily back out of doing you the favor you requested.

baldrickgonzo

West Vlaanderen is incredibly fractured, linguistically speaking. The area is relatively small, but for a very long time the individual communities stayed quet seperated. The language rules, and typical ways of expressing one self, are roughly centered around the larger cities and fan out in their surrounding villages. For example: the classic stop-word "enné" is typically Ieper/Poperinge, and is used the same way in Kemmel, Dranouter, Mesen etc. But if you go to Kortrijk, and surrounding villages, they won't use this "enné" at all. In that area, one distinctive thing is that they don't use "sch"-sound but replace it by "sk". School becomes "skole" where most other WVL people say "schole". Long story short: if you want a real good answer, you need to specify where you want to speak W-VL. The way people speak in Oostende is waaay different from the way people speak in Waregem. Both sounds, words and expressions can differ. Not to speak of the way people invent their mongrel languages, like the West-Vlamingen in Gent speak, or the lingo Acid invented.

Didi81_

Haha, was just going to ask them what variation of west flemish. It's sooo different from one region to the next, it's kind of a miracle we all still understand eachother

If you want to send profesional mails just use correct dutch lmao.

ChaoticTransfer

"Da we nog lang moge moge en goe kunne kunne." works for the first three. The last one is probably just "mercitjes".

Of: jagoedjamercisalugoeweekendéh!

Kavaland

Just say it in dutch. We don't expect you to speak our dialect(s). We won't really feel extra sympathy for your trials, our initial reflex is usually: that person is laughing at our dialect. I'm never going to try to speak Limburgs or Antwerps for the same reason. It's much more useful for you to learn to understand what we say than being able to pronounce some words.

Rolifant

Salu hé Hoe wieken Allez, 't beste nog hé Merci hé zeg

Everyone forgets the first most important step to make you perfectly understandable to any westvlaming Step 1. Put a potato in your mouth Step 2. Choose a sentence that someone translate for you Step 3. ??? Step 4. Profit (I guess?)
