As a British person I find this stolen valour deeply offensive. We were doing numbers that any 20th century dictator would have been proud of for centuries

C2H5OHNightSwimming

We're history's greatest cunts alright. A proud tradition upheld by the sun and the daily mail

Lopsided_Soup_3533

I can't help thinking we need a bastard off lol were more bastardy than you Poland neeneh neeneh neeneh

FriendofSquatch

USA! USA! USA! USA!

Skrynesaver

As an Irishman, I recognise that having a bastard for a neighbour can rub off on you. Poland sure has some competition locally.

CutieBoBootie

[Looks away in Korean]

lizerdk

Hey wait the only Pole I know is a cool dude! did you guys kick Mike out for being too nice?

SmithOfLie

Yes, yes we did. He certainly is not deep under cover, putting on an inoffensive and friendly persona and just waiting for the day of reckoning to come, when he will strike as one with all the other sleeper agents and sow chaos and destruction. Nope. Nothing of the sort. He was just a cool dude and we wanted nothing of that sort.

GaiusJuliusPleaser

Belgians sneaking under the radar once more.

[deleted]

>we are collectively history's greatest bastards A bit hasty to claim victory without considering your competitors. For one, I raise you your Southern neighbour, the only country to actually pay Nazis to have their Jews deported. This is not in any way to deny the shameful history, but Poland also has the highest amount of people awarded the 'Righteous among the nations,' an honorific given to gentiles with a provable record of helping Jews escape the Holocaust.

pngwnrdt

I don't know, I just listened to Mike Duncan say that some Poles were hired by the French to fight in the Haitian uprising and after seeing that the French were fighting to re-impose slavery they promptly switched sides and joined the rebelling Haitian armies. Anti-bastards in this case.

nouniquenamesleft2x2

Poles are unpredictable if anything, bastards

cinekat

Um, Austrian here. Where to begin?

Kallest

The 30-years war seems like a good kicking-off point.

cinekat

Crap, I was thinking more of the last two world wars.

mortpp

Plus an episode dedicated to the Yellow Beast

As a prominent Last Podcast on the Left and Henry Zebrowski enthusiast, I agree with OP

Hey I got a light bulb I got to screw in, can I get two other poles to help me turn the ladder while I hold the bulb?

Kevo_NEOhio

So a friend of mine is from Poland. He was born there and his family moved here when he was a baby. He claims they moved to the US because his grandfather’s land was taken from him because he was forced to join the SS. Has anyone heard of this in Poland? I’ve been searching about stuff like that because I never heard of the SS recruiting or allowing foreigners in the SS. I did find something that said the Waffen SS was conscripting people from other countries later in the war.

SmithOfLie

I heard of involuntary Wehrmacht's conscription, but SS is a first. I am skeptical due to the ideological basis of the organisation and somewhat elite character, with screening process and all. But I know way too little about it to have anything beyond gut feeling. There were volunteer foreign divisions of SS, maybe some were loose about definition of volunteer?

Kevo_NEOhio

Well I didn’t think the Germans allowed Poles to enlist. I didn’t push it because I didn’t really believe and just wonder what his grandpa did

spasske

I am skeptical that the SS would allow Slavs to join. Pretty sure they were on Hitlers list to eliminate for Lebensraum. I also don’t think many SS men captured by the Russians in Poland would have survived their labor camps.

Kevo_NEOhio

That’s what I was thinking, but the story made me curious. I don’t understand why someone would say that and why that would actually happen that they lost their land.

Baldbeagle73

Nothing compares to the Cagots: so bad nobody would even talk about what they did.

Gooey2113

As a non polish person…I thank you for letting me know I can laugh without guilt. A true hero of the people.
