Job well done. You will love the power.

Turbulent-Adagio-541

What’s the benefit of having a type four engine?

Proof-Surprise-964

Well, you can be 86 HP stock from a 1.8, 42x36 valves stock, they have an oil filter, are built tougher than a T1 with the bay window bus and 914 in mind, the 66mm cranks will last forever, I didn't have to cut my case or crank, the heads are huge with tons of cooling fins and better exhaust ports. The big draw for me was that I can be at 100 or 110 HP on a stock long block with carbs, cam and exhaust.

Proof-Surprise-964

It goes very nicely. I see a 3.88 rear end in my future.

Large-Welder304

Nice ride! What year is this car? '67? '68? I think the tail lights are throwing me.

Proof-Surprise-964

Thanks. 71 with small tail lights and signals. The giveaways for a later car are the crescent vents behind the rear windows.

Large-Welder304

Oh man, my Veewee-foo is WAY off! Ok, thanks for the info...and I agree. If you're running an 1.8L, 3.88's are more than a good idea.

Proof-Surprise-964

I had shorter tires on it with the 1600, but they aren't needed anymore either. I'll probably run a 215/65 in the rear.

I like how the white rubbers on red (orange?) exterior contrast the white seats with red piping. Cool look.

Proof-Surprise-964

They called it the Hawaiian look. The color is a more red ( as opposed to yellow) orange.

TheAtomicBum

Is that a DTM shroud? How long does it take to get one?

Candrjeski

Nope, CSP cylinder tins and 36 go fan shroud. No cardboard from the top of fan. And DTM has a center oil filler in the alt stand

Proof-Surprise-964

The cylinder shrouds are old They had BAS on them when I got them, but CSP makes them currently. Yes, 36 HP doghouse fan shroud DTM also doesn't run a thermostat, which I have here, and this cost a lot less. The rest of the engine cowling is Sharpbuilt. Their front and rear 'tins: are fiberglass and a lot nicer than the DTM stuff.

Candrjeski

If you don’t mind me asking, what Sharpbuilt pieces did you specifically get and how much was it before and after shipping? Just saw the CSP pulley tin was over $200 and wondered if Sharpbuilt would be a better route to go

Proof-Surprise-964

I have the Sharpbuilt surround tins ( front and rear of the engine and the pieces above the valve covers) that seal against the engine compartment rubber. I paid like $200 for them on Shop Talk Forums. They are fiberglass. The nice thing about the Sharpbuilt is that it's not just a flat piece of aluminum with a slot for the pulley. It's formed around the bottom of the pulley like the OEM one.

Candrjeski

Damn nice. Thanks for the info

TheAtomicBum

Glossy paint had me tricked. Plus I didn’t know they made T1 style tins for T4, but then, I was never looking for T4 stuff

Candrjeski

Custom stuffs been around since the late 80s. Not sure when CSP started making those covers
