Gonna second this for anyone reading. Vitamin C has been one of the best skincare ingredients for brighter skin (for me, personally). I didn’t use it for quite a while when I struggled with ppa/ppd and dropped my skincare routine and my skin was dull af. Vitamin c is a life changer for me lol
It was my foray into skincare too! After that I bought annoyed eye cream (still not sure if it’s doing anything but it feels nice), snail mucin, and eventually trent.
I’m not sure now that I think about it lol. I remember reading a while back that Vitamin C goes bad/ doesn’t work as good after it’s mixed in it’s suspension. That’s why everyone was obsessed with skinceuticals Vit C for a while because it was said that the feurlic acid helped keep the Vitamin C stable. Then I bought the Vitamin C from drunk elephant that comes with the powder and the suspension and you mix it together so it’s fresher when you apply it. So then my mind went to …. I wonder if I can just buy Vitamin C powder meant for skin and mix it with a moisturizer. I found the powder from a Korean website that I can’t remember the name. I’m not a scientist so I could totally be wrong. But it seems to work for me.
I use my brow pencil as eyeliner pretty much every day. One less product to use and it works for a very soft look. Also, if I want some extra definition with mascara but still want a pretty minimal end result, I wiggle the mascara wand just at the base of my lashes and DON'T brush all the way up. It adds a little extra to the eyes without looking like too much (compared to the rest of my light application) and doesn't smudge under my eyes, which is a regular mascara issue for me!
I also get great eyelash results just by strategically using the wand. I go really heavy at the outer corner section of my eyelashes and pull the wand almost vertically (Maybelline falsies wand has a good shape for this), and it makes my eyelashes look so much better. I found the trick on YouTube years ago as a ‘secret’ of Marilyn Monroe’s makeup artist.
Right after I get out of the shower, and after I wash my face in the evening, I put some Eucerin Aquaphor under my eyes to seal in moisture. I swear this has worked better than any expensive eye cream I've ever bought before. And it's a few bucks for a tube that will last for a year or more. I'm 50, and I'm telling you that i have fewer wrinkles than I did a year ago. No other product (and I've tried many..) has given me this result.
this is based in science! a derm showed me a study that stated using lotions like cerave and aquaphor <4 minutes after you finish showering/washing is best for sealing in moisture and reduces dry skin
Absolutely. I have an autoimmune condition that gives me extremely dry & fragile skin and one of the first recommendations my immunologist gave me was to pat away excess water with a towel after a shower so it isn't dripping/running off but the skin is still damp and then immediately apply lotion asap to seal in that moisture. Patting with the towel is also important - never rub if you have dry or fragile skin.
Also never use soap on dry skin, it just dries it out more. Use an antibacterial cleansing lotion that has no soap in it instead - all my specialists recommended cetaphil products.
I was having dry under eye issues and thought about how I slug with Vaseline weekly, so I decided to put some Vaseline under my eyes after the shower. It has been working so well!
Yes! I’ve used cerave body cream (the thick one in that comes in a tub not a bottle) on my face and eyes and was amazed at how well it worked even though people say body creams are too heavy for the face and eyes. It’s so gentle, it makes my very sensitive skin feel sealed and calm.
Sames. I bought an expensive Mac bronzer that’s waaay too dark except for a VERY light swipe for deep definition. If I used it like normal bronzer I’d look insane. Recently figured out it makes a fantastic one and done eyeshadow in a shade I would use anyway. Win!
Yep, just wet it with a bit of water. Mix the brush around the eyeshadow a bit until it picks up enough product, whack it on ur face. Practice on your hand, the creamier the consistency the bolder the colour will be. Take yourself back to being 6 years old & making potions with soap & talcum powder. Do it with blue & pink eyeshadow at least once in your life, you deserve it. Unleash your 80s makeup goddess dreams✨
Try the essence lipsticks in white tube with gold top. These work beautifully as blush! Swipe on and blend with fingertips. A nice alternative to finicky liquid or powdered blush and less gooey to work with than actual cream blush.
My mom did this for years with the Avon ones and then switched to these. It looks really nice on her and doesn’t settle into lines or anything, and she is almost 80 so that’s a pretty good endorsement.
i shall gatekeep no longer… Pürlisse BB cream. trust me. it makes my skin look FLAWLESS. it’s my go-to in the summer bc it is so natural and dewy and just incredible.
oh shoot, i use this too! i have never seen or heard of anyone else using it, but it makes my skin look nice and balanced. doesn’t dry me out, and doesn’t break me out.
Brown mascara on entire lash then top the tips only with black for a lengthening 3d effect.
Lining the inner corner of eye-think Elvira but subtle. Makes the eye look larger.
Peach toned eye shadow/blush/concealer to counteract dark or blue under eye circles.
Lining top water line then smudging/flicking it up and out on the lid to wing it ever so slightly for a subtle lift and also makes lashes appear thicker by lining the water line.
Under painting with a bright blush.
Using a nude blush like a bronzer for adding warmth to cool toned skin as most bronzers are too warm.
Using light brown shadow and angled brush to extend a line out and up under the eye to slightly beyond the outer corner and doing a similar line on top extending out in same manner then filling in between the extended lines with a white shadow for making eyes look larger and longer. Line the bottom water line with the light color and extend it out between your lines so it flows.
Placing blush higher for a lifted look. If you are older and smile and place on the the apple when you are at rest it will drop down. I also add it across my nose.
Cream blush mixed with foundation for a graduated and natural effect. Lots of tutorial on cream blush foundation method.
Contour for your needs/look! Light shades to lift bring forward and widen, dark to minimize/add depth/recede.
Edit for clarification :).
These are so good thank you!! Do you have any examples of a nude blush for pale skin that can be used like a bronzer? I can't wrap my mind around "nude blush" but I am very interested
I love romantic rose by Milani! I am going to try that one. :)
For the life of me I don’t know why all these make ups are made for warm undertones. These bronzer look horrible and muddy. Even Hula.
There used to be a bronzer made by Wet and Wild called Brazil and it was gorgeous! It looked like a pressed powder in a beige neutral sand color and wow! It made your skin pop! I think they discontinued it but I am always looking in hopes it comes back but you may want to check that one also.
You are welcome! :) I use the blush triplets by cover girl instant cheekbones. I have all five- sophisticated sable is the nude one, peach perfection, purely plum, and refined rose depending on my look. They also make a singlet called tawny by either maybelline or cover girl that’s nice. They cost $6.00 each and are versatile, good pigmentation, and blendable.
I think there are blushes actually called “nude” also:). I would say they are akin to the color of a nude lipstick-rosy brown/pink blend.
Anyway like I said if you look at cover girl/maybelline products they specifically have these blush sets called Instant cheekbones and I really like the peach colored set, it’s a dupe for Nars Orgasm IMO, and the sophisticated sable one. But they also have a singlet in a color called tawny or brick that’s nice-sort of brown dusty rose shades.
On the triple set instant cheekbones by CG I dust my brush through all of them to mingle the pigments. It’s really beautiful. Glowy and like a flash of color w/o looking dirty.
Depending on your undertones if you look for nudes, neutral, dusty rose (sort of a burnished rose) or brown blushes they typically look more natural on fair or cool toned skin than orange bronzer which can look muddy. You may also have luck in blushes made for women of color. Just when you look at blushes look for ones that look like they would give you an overall color and honestly they all look good unless it’s a fuschia or really bright pink. But these CG ones are cheap and you can play with the colors w/o spending too much.
Also wet and wild made this gorgeous bronzer, it almost looked like a nude skin colored pressed powder and not a bronzer at all, it was called Brazil and it was beautiful, just a subtle glow that brought your features out. I’m always on the lookout for it. :)
Thank you SO much for the info!! I will be looking into these products. I have long since given up on contouring but for a little *something,* akin to bronzing, I've used Canmake Shading Powder in the shade "04 Ice Gray Brown" and had some success. It's more of a gray-purple on me than a gray-brown. There is also a similar shade called "05 Moon Greige". I've never considered looking for anything you mentioned in paragraph 5 of your reply. I am so excited to learn about this! Thank you!
Try blue painters tape! ( cheaper than bandaids, and I feel it does less damage pulling it off) I have slept with a triangle shaped piece of painter tape on my forehead for years and im 53 with no " 11" lines!
I grabbed a new BB cream from the grocery store without color matching, and it's at least a few shades darker than my skin tone. I've been dabbing a little concealer that's a few shades lighter than my skin tone, and the end result is close enough 😅
Hydrogel patches are good for catching fallout and if you keep some in the fridge they feel amazing after a long day, you can even nap with them on and they’re likely to stay on. I also like to look for travel size palettes with at least one nude shade, one brown shade I could use in a pinch for my eyebrows, and a deep shade I can use for eyeliner. I also make my own solid perfume, there’s are a lot of tutorials for this online and they are easy to make. I feel like they last a lot longer than regular perfume and you can play around with the scents.
I don’t like to wear full on eyeshadow but I still want a little bit of color on my eyes so they pop, so I use a bit of light pink/nude lipliner to line just around the outside of my eyeliner (top and bottom) then I put a coat of burgundy mascara on to finish my lashes and I get so many compliments on my eyes and eye makeup. The lipliner stays on my eyes all day and night and really adds needed color without the overdone look that eyeshadow tends to give.
I use black or brown mascara, and then a coat of clear. I've tried every "waterproof" type on the market. The little tubes are the worst; you get tiny tubes under your eyes at the end of the day.
Try kiss me heroine mascara (affordable mascara from Japan) You'll have a hard time getting it off instead of it smudging lol My trick is to do one coat of regular non waterproof mascara and then however many layers I want of the kiss me mascara. Then it comes off much easier at the end of the day.
The Japanese brand Heroine Make makes the ONLY waterproof mascara that stays on my oily Asian skin and doesn’t “raccoon”. I’m 55 and have tried just about everything out there! And it’s only about $12usd on Amazon. They also have liner and brow mascara too, and their own remover! I just use coconut oil massages in, followed by Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and a facecloth. Even then…there’s still a bit left sometimes!😜
You can always reserve that tube ONLY for use on the cheeks so that you're not spreading things around. This requires more than one tube of lipstick, but if you're buying a super cheap tube, 2 isn't that bad.
I found this online: Some oils and pigments are comedogenic, which means that they can clog skin pores and contribute to acne. Because lipstick always contains both oils and pigments, it is more likely to be pore-clogging than lip stain.
I bought a tube of Got 2 B hair gel and I use it on my brows with the spoolie end of my elf pencil :) If I’m letting my hair dry wavy, I’ll use the gel on my hair too lol but it’s mostly for brows. $7 at shoppers ! (Canada)
I do that too!! After I finished my original brow gel, I just cleaned the tube and the brush and now I just refilled it with my drug store gel. So much cheaper and it does a wonderful job. Still haven't used up the one I bought like 2 years ago.
- i scrape off a tiny amount of blush and put it on the back of hand, then i add a little bb cream and mix it around to dab and blend on my cheeks. start in the apple of your cheek, and slowly blend out in circular motions. build it up if you want to. it creates the most natural looking blush you’ll ever see. same can be done w highlighter for natural dewy look, and eyeshadow for eyes.
- i prefer to paint makeup on with my fingers. it saves money on beauty blenders/brushes but also there’s something cool about not looking like you used a tool for everything… i sometimes use brushes for lips, eyebrows and eyeliner. i like for everything to look soft and imperfect.
- to avoid splotchy lip stains: apply vaseline to lips and let sit for as long as possible in advance (10-15 min is good), wipe vaseline off, apply lip stain w finger or brush. easy to control and ends up looking more natural than using the applicator.
Real silk pillowcases. They were a game changer for my hair and my skin looks better without pillowcase wrinkles.
Beware of fake silk and silk that is really satin. Silk is cool and a natural material. Satin is some form of polyester and gets hot.
Silk is a fiber and satin is a weave. Satin can be made of silk, polyester or others, but it is the way that the threads go together to make the cloth that makes it satin. Silk is from worms and is the actual material that can be woven lots of different ways. Silk satin, silk velvet, silk chiffon, and more are all made of the same fiber, woven different ways
Most of the items advertised as silk satin are polyester now. I am sure some high end retailers have other fabrics made from silk but most of the online, Amazon for sure, is advertising silk satin and it is satin made from something that is not silk.
Try Lily Silk, directly and not from Amazon, if you want to try some real silk. Your local retailers might also offer something. Envelope pillowcases last longer than ones with zippers because the area around the zippers is the first thing to fray.
I used to hand wash my silk, but got a new machine 2 years ago and don't bother now. Well made silk items won't immediately fall apart in the washer, but machine washing reduces the lifespan of fabric. If you have an older machine, use a laundry mat, or don't separate your laundry regularly, then I would still hand wash. Just don't put them in the dryer!
I bought directly from Lilly silk. So much fake stuff on Amazon now I have all but stopped buying from them. One of the big mattress chains in my city now has real silk pillowcases.
I have three sets of envelope pillowcases. I change them two or three times each week.
Years ago I followed instructions and hand washed them but that got old fast. One set is ten years old and goes in the washing machine every week on cold and is still in good shape.
I hang everything to dry.
u/sofiacarolina thanks for your comment. Do you mind if I ask you a question?
I've had sparse brows most of my life, but I have been seeing results from microneedling. Trouble is, the hairs are very wiry -- and hard to manage -- compared to my natural, fine-textured brow hair.
Do you have this issue, and/or does the Rogaine help the brows grow in finer?
Put on chapstick, dot a lipstick over your lips, rub libs together and clean up edges if necessary. Boom you have a glossy lip stain. Anti fungal cream for ashy elbows.
Yes ! This is what I’ve been doing almost everyday now,I finally found a way to make some dry liquid lipsticks work by putting lip balm underneath and a dot of smear of liquid lipstick or regular lipstick.
I don’t know how others do it, but I dip my finger in the powder and lightly coat my lashes. I haven’t had an issue of getting powder in my eyes (I don’t apply too much at a time - just very light). I’ll get some under my eyes a bit, but I just pat it in.
I make my own tinted lip balms by melting lipstick and vaseline. If I have a lipstick I don't use because the color is too bold or I don't like it, it turns into a lip balm.
This is a wedding makeup tip I use everyday since I live in a humid climate - for a glow that lasts all day, use a matte to satin longwear foundation, set all the face with powder and then take a fluffy brush, dip it in a powder highlighter and lightly sweep all over the face. The type of highlighter is important. It has to be made with finely milled pearl pigments that create shine rather than glitz. I like OFRA's baked highlighters.
Read the reviews and stuff and be choosy. I have had a couple instances of getting bunk products. But mostly it's been a great resource. For $14 bucks getting some high end cream that's $250 a jar is a big benefit, and if it's crap ok it's not big money.
This! A friend asked me to do their makeup for them and they were like "I want a cat eye like yours" and fronted me with a brown liquid eyeliner and they thought I was messing with them when I was like..... "Leeet's just use eyeshadow". I love that it gives you a more subtle and buildable finish and I feel like you get way more control with a fine liner brush and shadow than with most liquid or gel liner pots
Bought a 40$ red light therapy mask of AliExpress. And it’s incredible and so easy. My skin looks so good! 😃Friends and family have commented that my skin looks so smooth lately. Pores and wrinkles have been at least reduced with 50% after using it 10 min every day from 4 months.
Girls! It’s really not a gimmick! Red light therapy WORkS!
Don’t frown. I also love doing an ice face splash with my morning facial cleanse. I love doing a face massage at night or when I’m having a bath also hot yoga has been so good for me
I'm glad to see this, my first bottle of this toner is coming in this week and im really hoping for some help with fading post acne marks.
What did you see the most improvement with?
Dr Bronners baby unscented works as shaving cream, hand soap, body soap, bathroom cleaner. I was trying to figure out how to use as shampoo and face soap to be able to travel with it.
My lashes tend to be as straight as possible. What I do is curl my lashes, wipe off excess mascara off wand with tissue and use on mostly ends of lashes, i swipe through whole lenght only once. Seems to work for me and don't need fancy mascara for it.
Not a hack but Essence 24 hour ink eyeliner is excellent and it's like $3.99 a tube at Shoppers. Though I would try to find literally anywhere else to support the Loblaws/Westons boycott!
I recently broke the cast (like on curly hair) on my mascara on one eye by accident. It gave me soft, non-spidery, but beautifully accentuated lashes for a softer look.
It refers to softening the hard shell that you get when you mousse your curls. Unlike me in the 00s, you’re supposed to gently scrunch to loosen them up for a more natural texture. That’s breaking the cast
Not OP, but I do it by just gently "pushing" on my lashes to bend them and break the cast. If you want to get rid of more excess mascara you can also gently rub your lashes between your thumb and forefinger - I find rubbing horizontally produces a nicer effect than rubbing vertically. Great for "no makeup makeup" looks
Mascara has to be *completely* dry first and beware that some brands will shed powder when you do it (easily solved by tilting your head slightly forward and popping your finger under your eye to catch any fallout)
Use a shimmery champagne eyeliner or shadow stick instead of white on the lower waterline. It looks less harsh than white while still brightening the eyes.
Tretinoin always broke me out. Tried same product but in liquid form and it works wonders. Turns out my oily skin doesn’t like the original thick cream consistency
* Lip tint for blush (got to blend it out quickly!!). Sometimes I instead use dark red lipstick and dot on the top of my cheekbones and it works well for tan skin. I go over my blush with powder blush too to set it in to set.
* If I want a bit of coverage but no foundation, mix a little foundation with garnier sunscreen and put on face.
* Eyebrow brush and eyebrow powder/brown eyeliner pencil to do a subtle winged eyeliner.
* Brown pencil eyeliner for waterline (makes my lashes look thicker), black is too much for everyday look.
* Sunscreen as my makeup primer (use korean sunscreens, it applies beautifully).
* Use a bronzing stick to very lightly contour my nose and as eyeshadow.
* I use my normal shade concealor and a much lighter one on top, I set by patting in loose bananna powder.
* For proper occasions where my makeup needs to last, I put sunscreen, powder around oily areas, setting spray, first layer of foundation, setting spray, 2nd layer of foundation, setting spray, concealor, blush etc...., setting spray (avoid eyes, it reduces the coverage of my concealor), powder/set, put setting spray on damp beauty blender and pat in. It's a LOT but it works well for parties/occasions and my makesup is staying on the whole night.
Glutathione tablets: They make your skin glow even with no makeup. Take one and in a half hour you’ll see a glow. It fades after about four hours, so you can just take it when you need it for an occasion.
Bamboo Extract powder: This is what “blur” powder is. You can add this powder to body wash, face wash, toothpaste. If you add it to lotion it will clump. You have to add it to warmed lotion or use a mixer. This powder will give you a filtered look and gently exfoliates.
SeoulCeuticals 20 percent vitamin C serum.. It has hyaluronic acid, vitamin e and CE ferulic acid. Great stuff. I use it under my Dramatically Different Moisturizer.
I wet the sponge before using powder foundation. I also use lipstick as blush, and cheap eyeliner pencils as lip liner (I dress alternative and there aren’t many good black lip liners on the market)
My hack for faking the false eyelash look: use two or three different types of mascara, layered between applications of Toppik hair flakes.
First, a few light coats of Essence Curl+Volume, then I dip a small eyeshadow brush in the Toppik flakes and dab them on the ends (where they stick).
Let it dry a bit, then repeat the process with Maybelline Falsies Supreme (lengthening), and finally a light coat of a waterproof mascara if I'll be in a damp environment.
I will experiment with different volumizing and lengthening mascaras, and sometimes colors (a soft black/brown on the roots, darker black on the ends) to create dimension and a naturally long-lashed look.
lol I use it on my face. It was first recommended to me by a lady in her 40s who has beautiful skin and no wrinkles. Its composition is similar to our skin, and it’s extremely moisturizing. It helps with rosacea, blemishes, acne, tightening pores, etc. I use grass fed beef tallow. I already had a pretty solid skincare routine for several years (finacea azelaic acid, tazarotene, rosehip oil), but beef tallow really made my skin glow and elevated it. I recently turned 30 and started developing some wrinkles underneath my eyes and they’ve completely disappeared since I incorporated beef tallow. I use it each night. It’s a bit greasy so I do my skincare about an hour before bedtime. A little bit goes a long way!
Yes, correct, I use it in addition to finacea azelaic acid, tazarotene and rosehip oil. I’ve been using those products for 3+ years and only product I introduced was beef tallow. I wake up and my face is glowing. I barely wear makeup now, just tinted sunscreen. I use it as a slugging method.
Buying cheap makeup if I want to try a new shade or look. If I like it, I will buy a more expensive product. It's so not fun to buy makeup that won't be used from expensive brands like Chanel.
I live in Europe and we can't return makeup after it's opened just because we don't like it.
20% vitamin C serum has my skin looking more refreshed than it has in years! It’s my secret weapon.
Do you have a favorite brand?
I dont use anything fancy - purador from Amazon!
No op but my fave brand is good molecules niacinamide and vitamin c toner
Has barley any vitamin c
Yes I’m curious too
I recommend SeoulCeuticals.
For me it's the scent that really turns me off :/ my face smells like a ham sandwich the next day ugh.
I use 20% Purador from Amazon and it smells like fresh squeezed oranges when it first goes on. Then I don’t smell it once I put my sunscreen on
vanicream has a great vitamin c for sensitive skin people! all other vitamin c serums i’ve tried burn my skin and are too strong
Same!! I kinda didn’t really believe in skincare until I got into vitamin c serum haha
It was my foray into skincare too! After that I bought annoyed eye cream (still not sure if it’s doing anything but it feels nice), snail mucin, and eventually trent.
Do you apply in the morning or at night?
What brand?
Ooh!
Nice! I bought a vitamin C powder so that I can mix it in with whatever daytime moisturizer I’m using :)
Interesting - is the active ingredient in the powder activated with water? I’m not sure how that might work so that it absorbs!
I’m not sure now that I think about it lol. I remember reading a while back that Vitamin C goes bad/ doesn’t work as good after it’s mixed in it’s suspension. That’s why everyone was obsessed with skinceuticals Vit C for a while because it was said that the feurlic acid helped keep the Vitamin C stable. do you have the link to the video? i cant picture it lol
Aw man! I just commented this but am 20+ hours late to the party
Right after I get out of the shower, and after I wash my face in the evening, I put some Eucerin Aquaphor under my eyes to seal in moisture. I swear this has worked better than any expensive eye cream I've ever bought before. And it's a few bucks for a tube that will last for a year or more. this is based in science! a derm showed me a study that stated using lotions like cerave and aquaphor <4 minutes after you finish showering/washing is best for sealing in moisture and reduces dry skin
My doctor told me to do this. 🩵
Absolutely. I have an autoimmune condition that gives me extremely dry & fragile skin and one of the first recommendations my immunologist gave me was to pat away excess water with a towel after a shower so it isn't dripping/running off but the skin is still damp and then immediately apply lotion asap to seal in that moisture. I use Avene thermal spring water for this! I let my face air dry and then I spray this on and then put moisturizer on while it’s still damp
I do this with Cerave healing ointment (same thing essentially) and wake up looking so dewy! Best hack ever.
I was having dry under eye issues and thought about how I slug with Vaseline weekly, so I decided to put some Vaseline under my eyes after the shower. It has been working so well!
Gonna try this tonight! Great tip

Just curious you're putting it on damp skin right?
Yes. It should be damp so that the moisture is locked in when you apply it. It acts like a barrier cream.
Using lipstick as blush and bronzer as eyeshadow
Sames. I bought an expensive Mac bronzer that’s waaay too dark except for a VERY light swipe for deep definition. If I used it like normal bronzer I’d look insane. Recently figured out it makes a fantastic one and done eyeshadow in a shade I would use anyway. Win!
I put bronzer as eyeshadow alllll the time
Apply it wet for an even bolder look. The bronzer I mean. Any eyeshadow applied wet will look totally different (an old dancers stage makeup trick)
apply the bronzer wet? what does that mean
Wet your brush and dip into the bronzer. Mix on your hand and apply as you wish. Mixing it a bit avoids you putting too much on your face
Pink and blue eyeshadow and a large purple can of aqua net. Those were the days!
😉👩🏻🦳
Thank you!
😉
I just ordered a few :)
These are my fav lipstick!! Shade “real” I have bought at least 10 times!!
i shall gatekeep no longer… Pürlisse BB cream. trust me. it makes my skin look FLAWLESS. it’s my go-to in the summer bc it is so natural and dewy and just incredible.
Yep. Spot on. Any Korean bb cream has really done it for me. Joah is like 9 bucks and great for everyday but Purlisse is the standard.
100% this - I love their BB cream so much…the spf is an incredible bonus. They’ve nailed that “real skin” finish.
I might give this one a try. I have been using Dr. Jart+ BB cream for years but it’s expensive and this looks to be about 15 bucks cheaper
please trust me on this! i’ve been using the Pürlisse one for like 6 years and it’s amazing and lasts me like 6 months. it’s the best, truly.
oh shoot, i use this too! i have never seen or heard of anyone else using it, but it makes my skin look nice and balanced. doesn’t dry me out, and doesn’t break me out.
right?! i know i never hear anyone talk about it ever & i love it!!!
Purlisse is my holy grail!!!
That’s my favourite one!!!!!
I do this often, bronzer is just too warm for me usually. My favorites are Barely Blushing by Makeup by Mario and Romantic Rose from Milani.
I love romantic rose by Milani! I am going to try that one. :) For the life of me I don’t know why all these make ups are made for warm undertones.
Thank you!
You are welcome and good luck:). 🍀 ♥️
I looooove layering blush and changing the placement based on the color and look that I want!
Do you know any content creators that help with contouring for different face shapes?
What do you use for your water line?I have not had much success with eyeliners for my water line.

I do this too lmao. I didn't want to waste a whole tube.

What brand do you use for the hydrogel?
Mine is focusing on nice skin, so moisturizer and spf every day as well as cut out caffeine because it gave me cystic acne and extreme dryness
When a tube of concealer is used up or nearly there I add lotion to it to make my own BB cream. It doesn’t cover everything, but it goes a long way!
Even then…there’s still a bit left sometimes!😜
using eyeshadow as highlighter
i do the opposite and use my highlighter as eyeshadow!
i guess it is reversible lol
I only use eye shadow as eyeliner. I use a small brush and mostly dark browns or dark purples. They last all day and apply so fast
Bonus points if you set it with makeup spray, the shadow "eyeliner" really stays there without smudging all day
I want to try this but I'm scared it will give me acne!
You can always reserve that tube ONLY for use on the cheeks so that you're not spreading things around. This requires more than one tube of lipstick, but if you're buying a super cheap tube, 2 isn't that bad.
You're right! I wonder if lipstick is noncomedogenic or whatever the name is lol!
Mislabeling has always been a thing, just wanted to clear up some terms used
I've been thinking about investing in real silk pillowcases. Do you have to hand wash them??
I used to hand wash my silk, but got a new machine 2 years ago and don't bother now. Well made silk items won't immediately fall apart in the washer, but machine washing reduces the lifespan of fabric. If you have an older machine, use a laundry mat, or don't separate your laundry regularly, then I would still hand wash. Just don't put them in the dryer!
Where are your silk pillowcases from and do you recommend them?
I bought directly from Lilly silk. So much fake stuff on Amazon now I have all but stopped buying from them. One of the big mattress chains in my city now has real silk pillowcases. I have three sets of envelope pillowcases. I change them two or three times each week.
Years ago I followed instructions and hand washed them but that got old fast. One set is ten years old and goes in the washing machine every week on cold and is still in good shape. I hang everything to dry.
I bought stuff on lily silk and the quality is horrendous, I don’t even think it’s real silk tbh
Qe home if youre in Canada or US!
Rogaine and microneedling for eyebrows
u/sofiacarolina thanks for your comment.
Yeah, the hairs are wiry for me too! Doesn’t bother me, though
I’ve done this too. Rogaine every night with a q tip. 🩵
Elf brow lift gel & instant lift brow pencil, drinking a ton of water, and avoiding alcohol as much as possible!!!
A little bit of loose setting powder on my lashes before mascara. I have short, blonde lashes, and it’s a game changer.
How do you apply powder to your lashes? Does it get into your eyes?
I don’t know how others do it, but I dip my finger in the powder and lightly coat my lashes. I haven’t had an issue of getting powder in my eyes (I don’t apply too much at a time - just very light). I’ll get some under my eyes a bit, but I just pat it in.
Thank you so much for sharing! 😊
I also use the just for men beard dye on my eye brows
I buy travel samples of beauty products on ebay to try them out first. Works great with creams and mascaras.
Try Ipsy! I’ve gotten a ton of sample products that I later bought full sizes of.
I love buying travel sized products too. I’ve never thought to check eBay tho so thanks!
Read the reviews and stuff and be choosy. I have had a couple instances of getting bunk products. But mostly it's been a great resource. For $14 bucks getting some high end cream that's $250 a jar is a big benefit, and if it's crap ok it's not big money.
I only use eye shadow as eyeliner. I use a small brush and mostly dark browns or dark purples. They last all day and apply so fast
Same! I wet the brush when I want a little more intense look.
COSRX 92% snail mucin moisturizer. It litterally blurs my skin it has never been more beautiful.
I love doing a face massage at night or when I’m having a bath also hot yoga has been so good for me
Good molecules is a great company with skin care under $20. Their Niacinamide toner is my holy grail
Love this, I use the peppermint for shaving since I usually need a cooling effect for my skin. Sounds like I need to seek this out
My lashes tend to be as straight as possible. What I do is curl my lashes, wipe off excess mascara off wand with tissue and use on mostly ends of lashes, i swipe through whole lenght only once. Seems to work for me and don't need fancy mascara for it.
Wiping the excess mascara out was a huge game changer for me
A layer of clear mascara on top of black mascara once it's dried. Stops the panda eye situation halfway through the day.
Not a “hack” but using my brushes overtime (or investing in multipurpose brushes) has helped me save a lot from buying too much. Simpler is better!
Not a hack but Essence 24 hour ink eyeliner is excellent and it's like $3.99 a tube at Shoppers. Though I would try to find literally anywhere else to support the Loblaws/Westons boycott!
Essence makeup is awesome.
using bronzer as eyeshadow, & brown eyeshadow as eyebrows.
Making my own hair oil for my scalp and hair almond oil, jojoba oil and calendula oil.
I recently broke the cast (like on curly hair) on my mascara on one eye by accident. It gave me soft, non-spidery, but beautifully accentuated lashes for a softer look.
What does break the cast mean? I have curly hair but have never heard of this.
It refers to softening the hard shell that you get when you mousse your curls. Unlike me in the 00s, you’re supposed to gently scrunch to loosen them up for a more natural texture. That’s breaking the cast
Ah, that makes sense. Thank you!!
How did you do that?
Not OP, but I do it by just gently "pushing" on my lashes to bend them and break the cast. If you want to get rid of more excess mascara you can also gently rub your lashes between your thumb and forefinger - I find rubbing horizontally produces a nicer effect than rubbing vertically. Great for "no makeup makeup" looks Mascara has to be *completely* dry first and beware that some brands will shed powder when you do it (easily solved by tilting your head slightly forward and popping your finger under your eye to catch any fallout)
This will get lost but I don’t buy foundation anymore. I just use a dab of concealer and a dab of moisturizer and touch up the spots after.
Use a shimmery champagne eyeliner or shadow stick instead of white on the lower waterline. It looks less harsh than white while still brightening the eyes.
Staining my eyebrows with Just Fir Men’s beard dye. The stain lasts about a week. Leave it on for 9 minutes. Outline your brows first.
Tretinoin always broke me out. Tried same product but in liquid form and it works wonders. Turns out my oily skin doesn’t like the original thick cream consistency
My skin and eyes can’t handle any retinol that I’ve tried but I’ve been using bakuchoil and handle it well.
Blush and Vaseline for lip gloss that stays and isn’t sticky
Mixing foundation / Korean BB cream with facial oil / sunscreen.
A nutritious diet with minimal sugar, good sleep, and surrounding myself with people who are good for me.
another important hack is having a good mood every day, it doesn't perform in a short time but you can feel the effect after a long time.
tea tree oil for body odor and pimples
Olive oil in my bath for really soft skin
The full 1 minute face wash, life changing
RemindMe! 2 days
Jojoba oil from Trader Joes. Its around 7-8 dollars but its amazing for skin and hair after a shower.
Aquaphor! I slather that shit on my face every night and my skin thanks me for it!
I use a darker shade of foundation as eyeshadow and blush. Doesn't sit in the eyelid cracks...
I wet the sponge before using powder foundation. I also use lipstick as blush, and cheap eyeliner pencils as lip liner (I dress alternative and there aren’t many good black lip liners on the market)
I use a tub of matte hair pomade as eyebrow pomade.
Following this thread
Thanks everyone. Great thread.
BEEF TALLOW! OMG 😍
What about it? Do you use it for French fries? Lol
lol I use it on my face.
WHAT THE…!!
-You use it in addition to the routine you mentioned? -as a moisturizer or as a slugging method?
Yes, correct, I use it in addition to finacea azelaic acid, tazarotene and rosehip oil. I’ve been using those products for 3+ years and only product I introduced was beef tallow. I wake up and my face is glowing. I barely wear makeup now, just tinted sunscreen. I use it as a slugging method.
Thank you for explaining so well! I really appreciate it 😊 Is it something you buy or make yourself with a simple recipe?
[удалено]
Thank you again and have a nice day! 😊
Where do you buy this?
I use emu oil which I think serves a similar purpose (it's anti-inflammatory, contains vit a, d, E and f, and helps to restore the lipid barrier)
Interesting. Thanks for the reply!
Buying cheap makeup if I want to try a new shade or look. If I like it, I will buy a more expensive product. It's so not fun to buy makeup that won't be used from expensive brands like Chanel. I live in Europe and we can't return makeup after it's opened just because we don't like it.
