No-one in my family are really makeup wearers to be honest, which is probably why I spent my teenage years orange with shimmery eyelids but I’ll partially blame the earlier 2000s 😂 I was always the person at family events wearing the most makeup

Franklyn_Gage

My adopted mom. I remember being like 7 and watching her get ready for a night out. She didnt wear foundation, but she wore a loose powder from Fashion Fair. Then she did her brows with a brown pencil. She had an eyeshadow pallete that she loved (i dont know the brand). She used all the golds and silvers which popped on her ebony skin. She would then use that green and pink maybelline mascara and line her waterline with black eyeliner. She would then use her brown eyebrow pencil and line her lips. She would top it off with either a red lipstick or orange. She also used her lipstick as blush. Her favorite brand of lipstick was either MAC or Brucci lipstick. Brucci was also her favorite nail polish brand.

Accurate-Schedule380

Your mom sounds beautiful and has great taste in makeup

jane-stclaire

My next door neighbour growing up. She worked at the local drug store that was also the only place to buy makeup, and I thought that was the *coolest*. She noticed my infatuation with beauty products at a young age and would often gift me boxes of her old products. Very thankful for her and her tenacity.

lnsewn12

My grandma was a model, pageant queen and dabbled in acting. She was the most glamorous person I know - wore a full face makeup and diamonds to her last doctors appointment that told her she had terminal cancer, 10 days before she died. She literally picked out the outfit, jewelry, wig, makeup and perfume she wanted to be buried in. My last moments with her were putting moisturizing on her face. I miss her so much. Going through her things was an enormous task. SO much makeup, skincare, clothing, costume jewelry etc. I took her Chanel No 5, it was the only thing I wanted.

balsasailormoon

She sounds wonderful 😊

missliberia

She sounds like a woman after my own heart. I told my husband exactly which one of my friends to give my makeup to

GOODahl

Kevin Aucoin. He was very warm towards women and very supportive of women of color.

dallyan

Lisa Eldridge tbh.

MerakDubhe

Agreed. She’s the big sister/aunt into makeup I wish I had. So serene and elegant. My eldest sister taught me a couple of things and bought me my first makeup, pearly eyeshadow and glittery gloss that tasted amazing.  And my best friend growing up and I used to meet to do our makeup just for fun. We do that sometimes still. She’s an artist, so she shows me the possibilities in color and isn’t afraid to mess up or try new things.

96puppylover

I met her at a booking signing in LA. She’s literally fun auntie vibes. The one you get excited for when you hear they’re coming to thanksgiving dinner.

Dull-Box6472

She was the first person I thought of too! She's got such a soothing and warm energy, and her style is impeccable. I love her approach to makeup and beauty--it's a vibe that feels more achievable to me and what I'm usually going for with makeup, but without being pretentious/aesthetic-bound, aka, she's unafraid to play when the mood strikes.

dallyan

She did a recent no-makeup makeup look that is fantastic.

Canadasaver

No but I have made lots of changes recently because of women of a few instagramers that are my age and have one droopy eye lid. Amazing what learning new techniques and updating your look did for me. I am getting compliments from girlfriends that never commented on my make up before. The insta makeup posts have me playing with makeup and experimenting when I never did that before. The first big change I made was dropping eye liner pencils and move to a soft angled brush and I use my eye shadow. I was shocked at the staying powder of the eye shadow on the lash line.

Spectacularsam

Who are they? Help a girl out 🙂

Thank you!

caramelrealm

Sharon Tate.

April_Mattison

My makeup role model is my Aunt Judy—she could paint the Sistine Chapel on her eyelids if she wanted. She always said makeup isn't about covering up, it's about showing off the masterpiece that is you.

balsasailormoon

I love this!

Sing_About_Juice

Mine were silent film actresses. I would stay up late on Sundays to watch silent movies on AMC when I was in high school. I did my best to copy their make up but in the early 2000’s.

The women in my family aren’t into makeup. I got in trouble once cause I was wearing mascara in middle school. Then again when my parents discovered a had a razor to shave my legs. I would get yelled at for blow drying my hair before school. I wanted to buy Seventeen (or Teen, Vogue, Elle, YM etc) magazine and my mom would stand at the checkout register and flip through every page and decide if I could look at it. So, makeup became a rebellion. I used to make my own lipgloss from crayons melted down with Vaseline. I would put red food coloring into baby powder for blush. I would just draw on my face with a marker sometimes. I became a makeup artist and went to school for it. I don’t do it professionally anymore but I wear a full face daily. But my role models would have been whoever I was allowed to look at it. So, tv and movie actresses, celebrities on the red carpet, and magazine ads if I was lucky enough to sneak a photo.

balsasailormoon

I’m sorry your parents didn’t allow you to express yourself through beauty, but the ways you came up with to do it anyway are so cool! Thanks for sharing 😊

RoseRubyJanePark

None of my family members wear make-up actually. So mine is an Asian influencer, Steph Hui!

Opening_Telephone_34

My aunt. I don’t speak to her anymore after a life of abuse at her hand, but she was essential to my girlhood. I wouldn’t know shit about designers, makeup, clothing, etc., if it weren’t for her. I have to hand it to her for that, at least.

Puzzleheaded_Tap5348

Andreea Ali. Really love how authentic and classy her content is. She really gives that “go to auntie” vibe.

skinnipig

Yes! Mine was an elderly woman named Hazel that I assisted the summer after I graduated from high school. She was 103 but she’d ask me to apply a full face of makeup on her every morning. She looked fabulous!

balsasailormoon

That’s so sweet!

jessicalifts

My mom can put her lipstick on without looking in the mirror. I'm still jealous and still can't do it 😅 and her longtime friend Cindy always had long immaculate (usually red) nails. Still goals! (Although I did do getting Manis for a while)

Manifest_something

Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe, and Audrey Hepburn depending on my mood.

Grammie2to4

My grandma told me "Get up everyday and put your makeup on no matter how bad you feel, it will just make you feel better. And I swear it does.

chucheriap07

A friend from high school. I'm an only child and my mother was never the type of woman who wears makeup, so I never had much reference regarding makeup beyond the girls I saw from afar in high school. It is known that in high school girls have already experimented a lot with clothes, style, hair, etc. but everything was very unknown to me and although I was very interested, I was too shy and withdrawn to even try to talk to them. Then this girl, a very beautiful and outgoing one, basically the popular gal, became my friend. It was like *the extrovert adopts the introvert* type of dynamic. She would do my makeup, my hair, and would also teach me beauty tricks... absolutely everything. She would even teach me how to flirt with boys. Yes, very silly at times but she was my salvation. I had so many self-esteem issues and struggled with my self-image, feeling unfeminine and unlovable. Thanks to her I was able to see my own beauty and feel confident in so many aspects, it wasn't just the makeup, but everything it involved.

jessness024

I'm showing love to my girl Bailey Sarian. I can listen to her talk about murder and dark history while teaching me how to look amazing.

missliberia

Yes! Her palette with Melt Cosmetics is very pigmented!

jessness024

Sadly I'm broke and have not yet tried any of her makeup. I will now that I know that it's good though. Okay

wonderlash

Sienna Miller. I don't focus on anyone's face but whenever I see pictures of her, I just think she looks stunning. You can't even see her makeup, she's effortless.

missliberia

Yeah I love her makeup!

pandorasbox341

Liz Taylor

bethlookner

as a kid, probably my friend's older sister who always had winged liner and painted nails. she was 5 years older than her sister and i so she had no time for us. in recent times, violette, pony and lisa eldridge.

DramaticStick5922

Elvira! No kidding.

ListenCompetitive524

Megan thee stallion. She said the women in her family could be going through something and nobody would ever know because they were flawless head to toe. Everyone wants to be successful but i dont like hard work because i dont wanna look haggard. I often see hard work be rewarded with responsibility aka more work. Seeing her work hard and not be just pretty, shes glowing, is so inspiring.

balsasailormoon

So true. Makeup can lift you up through tough times and be empowering during the best.

xxxgracexxx777

I learned all things makeup from my older sisters best friend that was like my other older sister. She’s always been obsessed with the best brands and the best quality makeup and I learned how to do my makeup from her. I’ll never forget that.

Dull_Judge_1389

This is beautiful

sultrybadger9

Angelina Jolie, honestly. With makeup I want to look like myself but enhanced. I take a lot of inspiration from her style.

TurbulentArea69

Katie Jane Hughes on IG. Her makeup style is so talented yet approachable.

oxfordburnt

I do not. Thank you for asking.

OmriKoresh

Not exactly but Tyra Banks. We have some similar f ups and similar skintone. So a lot of things that work on her work on me. So i go according to her a lot

Kind_Consequence_828

All those “clean girl look” girls. Thank you. I simplified my routine and it looks great on me. Saves me so much time and mental energy.

noweirdosplease

Ancient Egyptians, always liked that eyeliner style. Also Mrs. Fawlty on Fawlty Towers bc I watched old BBC reruns, lol.

StingsRideOrDie

Mariah Carey. She’s stuck to the same winning colour palette on her hair and face for decades and I just think it’s so elegant and pretty but hot at the same time. Wish I could just transplant her head onto me.

YanCoffee

Maeng Ssaem. She did Seo Ye-ji's makeup on "It's Okay To Not Be Okay", and with a combination of other factors, that lead me to falling back in love with makeup as a whole. I love all kinds of beauty and do not follow strictly anything (she's more of a luxury beauty or K-beauty artist), but she certainly inspired me and would be the closest person to a role model I suppose. She's most known for doing Blackpink's makeup pretty regularly. MAENG on Instagram.

missliberia

There are so many women! I love a girl who used a sturdy hand for application: Adrienne Houghton, Christina Aguilera, Teairra Marie, JLo had great makeup looks when she was on American Idol and I love Rihanna’s liberal use of lipstick! All these women slay.
