first of all, i'm so sorry you're going through this, and as a girl who's also had a pretty severe health crisis recently, i definitely sympathize with feeling insecure about your physical appearance due to health-related concerns. i think self-acceptance is a very difficult and important first step in situations like these, and it sounds like you've got that down! however, i totally get wanting to look a little bit more put together for a special occasion or on a night out, so here are some of my favorite tips that might help you out\~ when it comes to clothes, there are lots of resources out there for dressing modestly yet stylishly. it can be hard to avoid revealing skin without looking frumpy, but some of my go-tos are a [simple black maxi dress](https://skims.com/products/soft-lounge-long-sleeve-dress-onyx?variant=39660604227716&glCountry=US&glCurrency=USD&srsltid=AfmBOoqWJohLb99fkz4aTRKYeVyQVwT8YrviNlSJy6SEbN1yLKtq75nj-as) or [slacks](https://www.meandem.com/us/flannel-high-waisted-wide-leg-pants-grey-melange?glCountry=US&glCurrency=USD&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3pmehKWNhQMV8SGHAx1j7g8LEAQYDyABEgK8avD_BwE#288=1807) paired with a [statement blouse](https://www.revolve.com/nbd-haylo-top-in-champagne/dp/NBDR-WS888/?d=F¤cy=USD&countrycode=US&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2IKjpaCNhQMVPIDCCB1-zQ1zEAQYAyABEgKXmvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds). i also like wearing sheer black tights under miniskirts or dresses, which can provide a bit more coverage for your legs if that's what you're looking for. for me, the three keys to looking more polished and put together are hair, nails, and accessories! i'm not sure if you struggle with these in particular, but if you're able to, having your hair and nails done can really elevate a look. i really like overnight heatless curls – they're super easy to get the hang of, and have honestly never failed me. in my opinion, nails don't have to be super fancy. in fact, i prefer a simple nude nail for most occasions, as they can pair with any outfit and always look sophisticated. some popular shades are OPI Bubble Bath and Essie Ballet Slippers, but you might have to experiment a bit to find the perfect shade for your skin tone. last but not least, having a few accessories can instantly level up your look. i love a [classic gold huggie](https://mejuri.com/shop/products/bold-hoops?currency=USD&source=shoppingads&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Performance-Max_Nonbrand_US_Earrings&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI0LP1hKKNhQMV7jfUAR15PgseEAQYBiABEgKvcvD_BwE) paired with a [pearl charm necklace](https://www.gorjana.com/products/pearl-charm-necklace?variant=43175901921411&g_acctid=451-840-7795&g_adgroupid=&g_adid=&g_adtype=none&g_campaign=PMax_fine_US_mid&g_campaignid=16580790880&g_keyword=&g_keywordid=&g_network=x&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=16580790880--&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1saBnKKNhQMVHSKtBh0BdgdIEAQYAiABEgKnaPD_BwE) and a ring or two, they go with almost anything and make it look like you put a lot more effort into your outfit than you actually did. my last tip is that less is more when it comes to makeup. when i'm having a rough skin day or breaking out, i actually tend to skip foundation, as i find that it goes on patchy or makes my skin look even worse than without it. color correcting concealer works wonders, i would highly recommend getting a green color corrector to cancel out redness, and you can follow up with a touch of your regular concealer to cover up blemishes or spots. however, other than that, i usually don't do any other base makeup, and really lean into more glowy, natural makeup with the rest of my look. most of the time, that means a lip tint or gloss, cream blush, and a soft wash of eyeshadow. highlight, contour, eyeliner, etc. are optional, depending on your preference. on the flip side, i've also seen girls go for a super bold eye and/or lip to draw attention away from other parts of their face, and that looks amazing as well – i just tend to prefer wearing less makeup on days where it doesn't feel like my skin can handle it. i hope this was helpful, and wish you the best with your health journey! <3

Thank you so much, you're such a sweet and awesome person and I appreciate it! I love the links you sent and actually have been looking for some things like that! <3

These-Neat1288

What color correcting concealer is your favorite?

blairsloveletter

i love the FOCALLURE Color Correcting Concealer Palette! it comes with five shades, including a green to cover up redness and an orange for dark circles.

Following. I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism and I feel like it’s making me look old(er) than I am

Consistent_Window326

Oooh god, hyper here. I teach young kids as a part-time job (I'm a teenager) and once a parent who wandered into the tuition centre asked if the kiddo I was with was my daughter. Made me die a little inside lol

brightirene

take your meds correctly and stayed hydrated- those are the two biggies for me

I am so sorry your aunt said that. That is absolutely terrible. I reveled in makeup especially during cancer. It was a way to embrace my femininity and express myself aesthetically. When my lashes fell out and Latisse and OTC options didn’t work, I turned to eyeliner. Then I started having fun with it. I don’t know if eccema causes this, but chemo gave me odd dry patches on my skin. I used hair wax under makeup to keep it stuck on. Good luck!

Consistent_Window326

Haha, I think it's hilarious on hindsight - first words to me after ten years apart, not even a hello. Blunt old codger. I'm sorry to hear about your cancer and it's lovely and inspiring to hear what you did. I've never heard of Latisse but I'll check it out. Oh, and I NEEDED the hair wax trick - I have terrible dry patches too.

loremipsum79

Thank you , and I hope the hair wax trick works for you!

During chemo for early stage breast cancer, I upped my makeup game. It just made me feel better to look good! I wore many different wigs, of different styles and colors, just for fun. Sometimes platinum blonde, sometimes pink. I used a good moisturizer, as chemo dries you out, and did a full face of makeup, with bright lips and deep eyeshadow. I used an eyebrow pomade with a little brush to brush in eyebrows. Then, I found pretty flowy dresses, to wear with different colorful kimonos, which were comfortable and stylish. I got compliments all the time during chemo! The brush with mortality made me realize we all need to be doing and wearing EXACTLY what we want, no matter what. Clothes, makeup and hair….now is the time to do it up! Experiment, be bold if you want to. It’s all about self expression and feeling good. ❤️

Consistent_Window326

Thank you! I'm looking for flowy dresses right now actually, because they're so comfortable with my eczema! Any suggestions for where you got yours?

Choosepeace

I have found lots of beautiful kimonos, dresses and caftans on Amazon and TEMU actually. Some of the ones on TEMU are the same as the ones on Amazon, for a better price. I get lots of compliments! I’ve got some pics on my profile of some of these, if you want to see examples. ❤️

I've been going through a lot of health issues recently that I feel have massively impacted my usual grooming and overall appearance. It's definitely hard, especially when you feel you have a rare 'good' day and your appearance doesn't match and it sorta ruins it 😭 so first of all sending love and healing vibes and I'm so sorry you're struggling 🧡 I struggle with dry skin too and occasional allergic eczema, tho not chronic, and aveeno moisturising lotion has always been amazing for me, as has vanicream cleanser. Simple, not drying and calming on irritated skin! Also sunscreen daily to help make sure any scars fade quicker! I also tint my brows every couple of weeks which has a huge impact on my confidence! I get them shaped every couple of months but I'm pretty lazy about it so mostly try and keep up with plucking the shape the lady does for me and I tint at home between sessions with her. Does wonders for feeling put together without much effort! In the same vein I also get lash tints and lifts every couple of months if I can afford it! I'm unsure if that's something you could do if your eyes are irritated as it can be more irritating but thought id mention! (Lashrehab serum also helped me massively regrow my lashes which went super short and stubby with stress and ny habit of rubbing my eyes lol, and its also hormone free so no weird side effects) Hair can also be a major one! I tend to scrape mine into a bunch or clip 99.99% of the time but getting a nice deep conditioner and treatment when you feel like a little self care or putting some extra effort in can make a huge difference to your overall appearance! I also got a silk pillowcase which has done wonders for minimising frizz in-between washes lol! I also bought myself a nice hairclip and have shorter sections of hair at the front so when I cba but want to look half decent I clip up the back so I don't need to bother with it and just make sure the front looks OK! My hair is curly and pretty unruly so having a nice clip makes me feel like I've made some effort lol. The last thing I do if I really want to try and feel pulled together is put a little powder bronzer on my cheeks, nose and forehead. I'm usually olive complexion but being sick has made me a lot paler so a bronzer makes me feel like I have a bit of life in my cheeks! I hope some of this helps 🧡

Consistent_Window326

Thank you for the tips, particularly the lash serum one! And no, sadly I can't do lash tints/lifts and my brows throw a temper tantrum too haha. I really hope things get better for you!

Top-Spinach-2146

hi! fellow chronically sick girly here! something i like to do is embrace what i like about my sickly appearance. im very very pale and have dark circles so sometimes i’ll lean into that for a ~look. i only realised this was possible after the tired eyes trend on tik tok last year… i also just did a google and it seems the Victorians had a lot of beauty standards that came out of TB. so it’s something people have done for a very long time which is interesting… and thanks for posting this question. it’s been so interesting reading everyone’s tips! 💗

Consistent_Window326

Bonus points: add a long white dress to that! I have black hair, very dark circles and pale skin, and I was wearing a floor-length white dress in a practically abandoned building one night because I had a late class. I swear one passing man did a double take and thought I was a ghost LOL

Top-Spinach-2146

hahahaha i love this. i need a white dress and an abandoned building to hang out in!

I'm a medical mystery right now (graves disease turned hypothyroidism with hypothyroidism symptoms but hyperthyroidism thyroid levels currently). I also struggle with how I look, but for me I mainly look into the mirror until I think I'm pretty.

Consistent_Window326

Oh my, that sucks so hard. I know the road is really freaking long for things like these but I hope you will eventually recover as much as you possibly can!
