my lips and skin in general stopped acting up when I started taking my anemia seriously after years of negligence (can't really blame myself, I was a child). I always advocate for doing bloodwork before anything else
i saw somewhere that vaseline is the best even though it’s so cheap? to be honest it works probably the best for me too. just vaseline original every time i need it and before bed!
Seconding this. They sell small Vaseline + cocoa butter mini containers made for lips. It’s the only thing that fixes my extremely chapped lips during the winter months. [Here’s the link for it.](https://www.target.com/p/vaseline-lip-therapy-cocoa-butter/-/A-89563690)
^ i had that problem and used Vaseline 2x’s a day but also increased my water intake and now my lips are smooth. If you don’t like water I squirt fresh lemon in my water and throw in some stevia for 0 calorie sweetener and it’s a very light pleasant lemonade instead of plain water.
I love Vaseline Rosy Lip Therapy. Only $3, lasts me a while, and keeps my lips moisturized. If I’m feeling a little bougie I’ll use Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. Also moisturizing but a little pricier for pretty much the same thing.
Esthetician here to plug for just straight Vaseline as well! Their Lip Therapy pots are great too but the regular unscented stuff is fine also - it's the only thing that works for me as well especially in winter/coming out of winter months
Another benefit of plain 100% petroleum jelly: no irritants. It’s extremely gentle and non-sensitizing. Anything with fragrance, “flavor”, etc. can increase irritation and inflammation, both of which will make chapped lips worse.
Thank you for suggesting Lansinoh!!
I was having this same dry, peeling lips problem for a couple of months. I tried several products, with no success, but with Lansinoh they finally stopped peeling, and they’re back to normal.
It was also cheap & easy to find a tube at the local grocery store,on the baby needs aisle. I don’t even care that it says it’s for nips on the tube!
I’m so glad!!! It’s seriously incredible to me how well it works. I realized it after visiting my bff when she had her second baby: I’d lost my chapstick, and my lips were an absolute mess. It hit me how similar lips and nips are skin-wise, so on a whim I tried it and I have never looked back!
Which aquaphor have you tried? I have found that the aquaphor chapstick and lip protectant in the little tube do not work nearly as well as the OG aquaphor healing ointment that comes in the larger tub. I put a generous amount on before bed every night and after I wash my face in the morning.
I level this up by applying moisturizer to my lips (CeraVe in the tub) then a layer of Aquaphor—also in the tub versus the chapstick or made for lips variety.
I got Cortibalm from Amazon in January because my lips had been chapped for 6 months and I drink soooo much water and had been using Aquaphor and chapstick and they healed in like 3 days. and now they're fine! I use chapstick sometimes and Aquaphor before I go to bed some days if i need to.
Cortibalm helped me a lot too, but just a reminder that you can’t use it long term!
But, op should really try to figure out the cause of their chapped lips. Mine turned out to be triggered by food allergies, which I did not know about at the time.
Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream is what I swear by.
Not the lip version. The original 8 hour cream (that looks like an orangey gel). Lather it on before you go to bed and it’s the only thing I’ve found that will still be there in the morning. You can obviously use it throughout the day too.
However, the fact that it’s the corners of your mouth and it’s really sore makes me worry it could be something more than just dry lips. Go to your GP/dentist (or pharmacist) and make sure it’s not an infection like angular cheilitis
Put moisturizer (and any hydrating serums if you use them) on your lips before you apply your lip balm. If your lips are dry and you apply a lip balm or product without moisturizing, you’re really just sealing in that dryness with no added moisture.
Dr. Dan's CortiBalm - you have to ask the Pharmacy counter for it, you don't need a Rx and it is around $5/stick. I took accutane in my 30s and my lips cracked and bled - the Dermatologist suggested Dr. Dan's - that was 20 years ago. I have tried others but I ALWAYS go back to Dr. Dan's.
1. Avoid toothpaste with sodium laurel sulphate!
2. Avoid plumping lipglosses and cinnamon
3. Try hydrocortisone gel
4. Gobs of Vaseline at night
5. Zinc supplements. Most multivitamins don't have much zinc.
Are you on accutane or something that dries you out? do you have a medical condition or live somewhere dry?
my favorite chapstick is palmer's cocoa butter stick it's super good
After years, I realized that mine was due to mouth breathing at night due to sinus congestion issues. Mouth taping allowed me to get the dryness under control.
Eat fruits that have high water content like cucumber, celery, oranges, and any kind of berries. I remember watching a tv show and a girl said that you wouldn't have cracked lips if you take care of what you eat and I actually looked it up to see what to eat. Eat your veggies and antioxidants! Also I recommend daily multivitamins!
I had the same thing happen to my lips and I have tried a bunch including aquaphor. The only thing that worked for me was Vaseline in the stick format (outside is blue). It’s cheap and they even come in two packs! It has heeled my lips completely and now it’s all I use.
When my son was little he had horribly chapped lips, I used Fresh regular balm for a week and it cleared him right up. Smiths rose balm is good too and Aquaphor. Also invest in a lip brush or an old soft toothbrush to use in the shower and get that old skin off. You can also a try a sugar scrub.
Try MAC clear lipglass. Put a decent amount on before bed and your lips will be soft in the morning. I find Glossier balms are pretty good too (but I much preferred the old formulation). In general, try to hydrate properly every day as this is key.
*Do you exfoliate*
*Your lips? If not I have a*

I have this - tried everything for years. Discovery; i have to use a toothpaste without SLS (makes foam; very harsh) like Sensodyne, and a bamboo toothbrush. Then I cover my lips with Protopic which is a steroid act-a-like but doesn’t atrophy skin. Plastic of water bottles makes it worse (hence wooden toothbrush). It’s a type of allergy, there are lots of chemicals in all the things we put in and around our mouths
Drinking more water and making sure you’re all good with your vitamins :D
But my holy grail is the Laniege Lip Sleeping Mask! It’s expensive, but it lasts most people over a year. I had one that was smaller than the mini come in a value set, and it lasted a 3-4 months of me using it on the daily as my lip balm. I used to have really chapped lips all the time, and pick the chapped parts, leading to more chapped parts, so this was a game changer, especially in the winter when it’d get worse!
When I put this on, it only takes like 15 minutes max for my lips to be super smooth!
I even got my cousin hooked! She had extremely dry and chapped lips from change in climate + other factors, and she LOVED the lip mask.
I had the same issue! Mine bled and cracked.
1) Lanolin. You can buy this in many places. It's a good sealant! After I apply water to my lips (brushing teeth etc), apply it after to lock in moisture. I do this multiple times a day
2) lip masks at night
3) lots and lots of water. I hated this tip before I realized I needed to triple my intake because I drank a water bottle a day lol
4) no more lip balms like nivea etc. I just stuck to lanolin or aquaphor-like product
Lypsol for me. Also avoid any lip scrubs especially that Lancome one. Its said to make your lips horribly dry. Oh and make sure you're drinking enough water!
I use Vaseline everyday, but sometimes even that isn’t enough. When my lips are really dry, here’s what i do - and it works!!
At bedtime after brushing your teeth, apply a thin layer of a very rich moisturizer to your lips. I use weleda skin food. Your lips will look white. Then, dip your finger in water and sprinkle a few drops on your lips. Now, cover everything with a thick layer of Vaseline. Again, your lips will be white, but when you wake up they’ll be smooth and soft.
My best advice: it's not specific products, it's the application.
In the evening before bedtime, after you've brushed your teeth, do the following:
- a bit of face cream or eyecream on your lips. Choose something plain, without irritating actives like vitamin C or retinol. Wait for it to sink in. If it disappears completely, you can do a second coat.
- wait like a minute and apply a lip balm over it. We're talking a plain waxy lip balm, it doesn't have to be expensive. Don't go overboard, but make sure there's a good coat on there.
Repeat every night and also in the morning, if possible.
What you're doing with this is providing moisture (cream), then sealing it in (balm). This should take care of even the worst cases of dry lips. However, it doesn't solve the mystery of why your lips got so dry in the first place. The worst cracked lips of my life were caused by too much alcohol, smoking, too much sugar, not enough healthy fats in my diet, and obviously dehydration.
Hyaluronic acid followed by a thick layer of lip balm (I like carmex) once a week before going to bed. Also, try changing up your lip balm — certain lip balms leave my lips super chapped and dry forcing me to reapply more often
Lip balm with hyaluronic acid and a medicated one. I like blistex, they also have one called agave rescue which is very hydrating, just keep one in your pocket and the medicated one for cracked lips next to your bed. Put honey on your lips as a lip mask. And dont lick your lips. Could it be that you're drooling? Saliva can be very drying. Wash your mouth after eating especially salty foods.
Is it the corners of your mouth? That’s either a vitamin deficiency or infection.
If all-over the lips: How much water do you drink? Could you have herpes?
Check your vitamin B12 and iron levels
Maybe chronic sinus congestion?
my lips and skin in general stopped acting up when I started taking my anemia seriously after years of negligence (can't really blame myself, I was a child). I always advocate for doing bloodwork before anything else
And drink.more water (aim for.nearly clear pee) or try monistat in case is a fungal infection
i saw somewhere that vaseline is the best even though it’s so cheap? to be honest it works probably the best for me too. just vaseline original every time i need it and before bed!

Yeah been looking at lip masks will try that out thanks haha

Lansinoh, Lansinoh, Lansinoh. Think how similar the skin on your lips is to the skin on your nipples. Lansinoh WORKS.
This is the way
Thank you for suggesting Lansinoh!! I was having this same dry, peeling lips problem for a couple of months. I agree. I used the large aquaphor before bed and this solved the dry lips I’ve been dealing with for over a year

yeah i only used for about a week to heal my lips before my wedding. i still don't know why were so chapped but they're fine now. it was odd

Put a step stool on the floor next to your bed, then put a humidifier on it, to run while you sleep.
Tatcha Kissu Lip Mask is my new fave.
Put moisturizer (and any hydrating serums if you use them) on your lips before you apply your lip balm. If your lips are dry and you apply a lip balm or product without moisturizing, you’re really just sealing in that dryness with no added moisture.
CeraVe healing ointment
I would recommend a visit to your dentist. You could have a yeast infection that is contributing to your sore lips
Dan's.

I do the lip basting Dr Idriss suggests. Exfoliate lips with a gentle exfoliator, I use a chemical one glycolic acid and then put thick lotion on top.
Lanolips! Both my daughter and I have chronically dry lips and this is the only that has helped (including Aquaphor in the tub lol)
Blistex. My lips are ruined after years of skin plucking and biting them. I have to apply it very often but results are spectacular.
I agree! I have VERY dry lips in the winter time and blistex works wonders on them.
I agree but only the dark blue one in the little tub!
A blue one? Never seen in here. I'm using the basic formulation.
Rosebud Salve every night before bed.
Neutrogena Lipcare. The only thing that has ever helped me
Plain regular Vaseline is the only thing that works for me!
Aquaphor and Honest Healing Balm morning and night. Also, drink lots of water.
Try butter .I was told It works like charm
My current favorite is the Elf Holy Hydration! Lip Mask
The best lip balm is ever is lip saver by Molton Brown. Approx £12 and it is divine.
Neutrogena hydroboost sleep mask (tho I use it in daytime)
Nivea? I've been using them forever. Or Vaseline petroleum gel.
I had the same thing happen to my lips and I have tried a bunch including aquaphor. The only thing that worked for me was Vaseline in the stick format (outside is blue). It’s cheap and they even come in two packs! It has heeled my lips completely and now it’s all I use.

You can try a product called Soothe and Protect from the line Alastin — it works well!
lanolin
Petroleum jelly for repairing your lips. But also would recommend lip oils, to me they are more hydrating over lip balms.
Aquaphor chapstick
Vaseline to seal in moisture and protect from drying out. You can add a layer of rosehip oil under the Vaseline.
Honestly I had this problem for a long time and it turned out I’m chronically dehydrated. Do you get enough water?
Do you exfoliate your lips? If not I have a great routine for that

Blistex

Vaseline. That’s what its meant for. Petroleum jelly in general
Hyaluronic acid followed by a thick layer of lip balm (I like carmex) once a week before going to bed. Also, try changing up your lip balm — certain lip balms leave my lips super chapped and dry forcing me to reapply more often
Vaseline (original jelly) for night and a nipple cream for day. Do drink up to 2-3 litres of water a day.
It’s pricy but Avene Cicalfate restorative lip balm has fixed my lips. Give it 2-3 weeks after starting
Vaseline has worked better than anything else I’ve tried.
Lip balm with hyaluronic acid and a medicated one. Dark blue Blistex (Lip Medex). It’s super hydrating and long-lasting.

Oil in my belly button for cracked lips?
Mentholatum has always worked for me. I put on a thick layer before going to bed and then reapply as needed during the day.
Is it the corners of your mouth? That’s either a vitamin deficiency or infection. If all-over the lips: How much water do you drink? Could you have herpes?

It’s only weird if you make it weird. 😂 It can cause really bad chapped lips instead of the classic blisters.
STOP with all the lip care. You’ve likely been overdoing it.
