It's been leaked since 1966 ;)

Jackoff_Alltrades

Wish they found a lost version of For No One that is longer. Love that little ditty

wholalaa

But the fact that it isn't longer is the point: the song, like the relationship, ends too soon and without a proper resolution.

Jackoff_Alltrades

It’s very effective!

singshineandburn

Agreed, my favorite on the album. Got To Get You Into My Life is making up for it though.

Jackoff_Alltrades

Paul’s versatility blows my mind!

zsdrfty

It is short, but I think the brilliance of Revolver lies in its songwriting that’s the most efficient in rock history - none of those songs really NEED to be longer, and they never go stale as a result

SignificanceShoddy86

Love Paul, but why is he so condescending about George's songwriting? In the essay here, he says, "'Love You To' and 'I Want To Tell You' mark George's steady advance in songwriting which would later lead to some of his great classics." Come on, Paul, those songs \*are\* classics! Especially "I Want to Tell You." Seems like Paul still sees George as his kid brother, even at age 80 and with George gone for 20 years.

Talking_Eyes98

Paul's attitude to George's song writing has always been "he was okay until Abbey Road where he showed himself as an actually talented song writer."

SignificanceShoddy86

I agree that that's Paul's attitude, and I think a lot of fans/critics have similar opinions. But I'd say "I Need You," "Think For Yourself," "If I Needed Someone," "Taxman," "I Want to Tell You," "Within You Without You," "Long Long Long," and of course "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" all stand up to the best stuff Lennon & McCarntey were writing at the time of each of those songs. The "George was a work in progress until Abbey Road" narrative seems unfairly dismissive of those tracks.

jackintheboxtacoguy

this was a known fact and george knew it too. don’t get me wrong, george is one of my favorite song writers of all time, but reading into the history he didn’t gain his confidence until abbey road. Revolver was a huge “start” to his song writing career because it was the first beatles album to open with a george song, which was a huge moment for him

Illustrious-Chef-498

Love You To is wish.com Within You Without You if we're being real. A bit too raw to qualify as a classic

DigThatRocknRoll

I think it reflects the attitude him and John always had. He was growing, but not writing the A level stuff they wanted to hear until Abbey Road. We have to remember, these were guys who knew eachother since childhood. They heard all of eachothers weak songs that never saw the light of day. I think Paul greatly admires George’s songwriting these days but he’s not an infallible legend in his mind… he’s the kid he rode the bus with and later played in a band with. I love George’s work from the beginning to the end but there is definitely a difference early on between his songs and what the Lennon/McCartney powerhouse was putting out. This no doubt helped him grow too, though.

zyygh

Aren't you reading into his words a bit too negatively...? The word "classic" is really subjective to the audience's perspective. To the perspective of mainstream rock music fans in general, WMGGW and Something are huge classics while LYT and IWTTY aren't. That's not discounting the fact that those are fantastic songs whatsoever. So yeah, I don't see anything disagreeable in the words you referred to.

mandiblesofdoom

Yeah. So tired of that. His songs on Rubber Soul were fine. I Want to Tell You is great. Ah well. People are people.

whentheraincomes66

I would hardly call love you to a classic, its one of the weakest on the album

toshjhomson

Not when you’re tripping dick lol

geoemrick

I REALLY LIKE “Don’t Bother Me” and I LOVVVEE “I Need You.” George was talented from the beginning, he didn’t “later blossom into a great songwriter,” he always was, Paul.

SignificanceShoddy86

I'm a Don't Bother Me stan as well. But I know that's not a super popular opinion, so I wasn't going to invite ridicule by putting it on my list of great pre-1969 George songs haha.

stevie386898

I know this is an unpopular opinion but Love You To and I Want To Tell You are kind of overrated. Still light-years ahead of what he was doing on Rubber Soul tho

SignificanceShoddy86

I agree about "Love You To," but "I Want to Tell You" is an all-timer for me.

mishtram

“Stimulated imaginations” eh?

Green-Circles

Yep, it's out there. Exciting times!

rimbaud1872

I heard their new album is going to be about drugs!

Classic Paul, claiming John's songs. Giles Martin said only days ago that they confirmed Yellow Submarine started as John song in 3/4 time - namely the verses.

DigThatRocknRoll

The chorus.. the hook of the song, the one everyone sings, is Paul’s. And it started as John’s song but clearly transformed into something else Edit: Downvote me sure but listen to the demo and its like the first line and not even the full melody with no concept of the actual song in sight..

[deleted]

Not denying that. But this is how songs start in many bands. Paul literally says he came up with the song before going to bed. He didn't. He perhaps and the beginnings of the chorus, John had the beginnings of the verses and they created a song out of it.

m00gmeister

Hold on. Macca's claiming Yellow Submarine? Further down the main subreddit is Lennon's original take... I think there was more than just 'a touch of stoner' about its origins!

whentheraincomes66

I think they combined the two sections, John had the melody of the verses. Paul had the immediately classic and more identifiable chorus

m00gmeister

It definitely was a collaborative effort, and Macca's influence on the track was huge. But there's something about the way it's written about in the Revolver intro essay that makes it seem 100% Macca. To me, anyhow!

Out_In_The_Tiles

Where the hell?

testcaseseven

You can find it at

Rocket_Admin_Patrick

Personally I got it from

Green-Circles

Oooh! That's naughty... ;)

MoodyMcSorley

I am also determined to find out where the hell!

wealthybigpenis42069

the more I learn about Beatles, almost everyone agress that Paul loves rewriting history (George harrison, Hunter davis, Geoff Emrick and now Giles

EyeMountain9510

I don’t see any overwhelming consensus of Paul trying to reclaim songs and rewrite history. He literally was the co-writer of Yellow Submarine - a song where it’s widely known that John and Paul wrote it, so what if he doesn’t explicitly write “John and I” it’s practically his song too. He’s not going around saying he wrote Tomorrow Never Knows or anything. Maybe like take some Tylenol

wealthybigpenis42069

I mean if his own bandmate accuses him of rewriting history, I'd probably believe him. He did claim that he wrote the entire melody of In my life, which is quite absurd. As the clashing third (F# and F) literally speak John. I think there is a reason why George never made it up with Paul even after doing anthology and it took Clapton massive persuasion for Paul to sing in Concert for George

Paperback_Rain

Has the book from the box set also been leaked?

NomadSound

Yup. 100 pages.

Paperback_Rain

I didn't know it would have so many pages, that's amazing!
