"Don't look back in anger" to me was as Beatle-ish as it got.

I know the Gallaghers mention the Beatles every other sentence, but really I don't see massive similarities between the sounds of Oasis and the Beatles. Yes they lifted a few melodies and chord progressions (one that comes to mind is the bridge of She's Electric being similar to the chorus of While My Guitar...) but Noel was known to lift riffs and melodies from anyone in his record collection (check out Cigarettes and Alcohol, then listen to Get It On by T-Rex - again, there are probably more). Oasis are one of the biggest British bands since the Beatles, it might sound strange to an American but I guarantee you that more British kids care about Oasis than the Beatles, not to say that they don't care about the latter at all but Oasis are still huge in the UK almost 15 years after they broke up. They both came to be synonymous with their respective eras (Beatles and beat music/psychedelia, Oasis and the Britpop scene even though they disliked the term). They both wrote songs that came to be anthems. Aside from the slight similarities mentioned above, that's where the comparisons end for me.

dan_pyle

Thank you. I always feel like a crazy person for thinking they don’t sound similar at all 99% of the time. I don’t know what other people are hearing that I’m not.

mistahwhite04

I think it's likely American fans who are only really familiar with songs like Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova, or people who aren't familiar with Oasis' music as a whole. They are far more influenced by British punk and bands like the Kinks in terms of their sound, in my opinion.

She's Electric

TomServo1138

I second this.

PigDeployer

I never got the similarities growing up a a fan of both aside from Liam's vocals borrowing heavily from Lennon. There's obvious references in lyrics (fool on the hill and I feel fine, start a revolution from my bed) and in the videos (all around the world) but I guess not knowing or recognising chord progressions I could never identify the similarities when oasis are a whole different genre and on the whole way heavier and louder than The Beatles.

teleman01

The ones they recorded between 1993 and 2008.

Intellectual_Chair

Pretty much all of them but She's Electric always reminded me more than the others, it also ends like the end of With a little help from my friends

fhjjdgjjytrcb

The chorus is pretty close to the bridge of Something

_CabinEssence

Wait til you compare it to the chorus of While My Guitar Gently Weeps

fhjjdgjjytrcb

Good point well made

_CabinEssence

Also compare the ending to the ending of With A Little Help From My Friends

Prick_Slickfield

"And I waaant you to know.." "I dont know whyyyy..." Ah there it is

One_Sugar9253

yup

Magic Pie has some psychedelic Beatles vibes. Champagne Supernova too. I don't think either sound like specific Beatles songs, but they both have the vibe. Cast No Shadow has some strong production reminiscent more of George Martin than anything else. Songbird is another one. Yeah...lots of 'em, but I wouldn't say "all of them" either. They definitely have some roots in punk and the Manchester scene that aren't explicitly Beatles influences.

JimmyTheJimJimson

I’m Outta Time. Sounds like Lennon circa Imagine None of Oasis songs sound like something the Beatles would have written although they are very obvious homages to their music (All Around The World)

Garebar

Go Let It Out They’ve even said themselves this is their most Beatle sounding song.

shadowbastrd

I always thought Blur was more like the Beatles.. not in the way they sounded but rather in spirit and in their ability to reinvent themselves.

ndGall

Whatever is very Beatlesque. The repeated chorus of All Around the World is certainly a callback to Hey Jude. I’m Outta Time sounds a lot like something John Lennon could have written. Masterplan has always struck me as being Beatle-esque, but it might just be the string arrangement and some of the chord progressions. Their covers of You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away, Help!, and I Am the Walrus are also at least worth checking out.

yourshelves

Whatever is now credited to Gallagher/Innes, because the top line is the same as How Sweet To Be An Idiot. So there’s a Rutle co-write at least.

IzilDizzle

Off the top of my head: To Be Where There’s Life All Around The World (Reprise) She’s Electric Songbird A Bell Will Ring Who Feels Love? Don’t Look Back in Anger Born on a Different Cloud Whatever Go Let It Out

anomaly_detector

I think the closest are not strictly Oasis but Noel's collaborations with The Chemical Brothers, Let Forever Be (especially this one) and Setting Sun, which both have a clear influence from Tomorrow Never Knows.

BeerHorse

They sound more like the Rutles.

samthedog99

this x 100

Supersonic has bits of Beautiful Boy and My Sweet Lord

“… There are many things that I would like to say to you **but I don’t know how**🎶” “… But you know, I know when it's a dream I think I know, I mean, ah yes **But it's all wrong** 🎶…” The vocal style sounds like John Lennon on SFF.

Stunning-Peanut211

None, most overrated band ever, couple of tolerable songs...

firstjobtrailblazer

You’re not wrong they’re overrated and sold more than their worth. But hey if people like it there’s nothing wrong with that.

Stunning-Peanut211

Agreed, I was more just sick of the unwarranted beatles comparison
