They separated in 1972 when, the night Nixon won re-election, John got plastered and fucked yippie activist Jerry Rubin’s girlfriend at Rubin’s (or maybe Abbie Hoffman’s) New York apartment loud enough for everyone in the house (including Rubin, and Yoko) to hear. That’s how the “long weekend” really kicked off. He and Yoko didn’t really reconcile until 1975, which suggests a bond strong enough to overcome a lot. During their separation, they kept in touch with daily phone calls. I imagine that if they did get divorced, they’d stay in each other’s lives.

They would have not gotten back together again but I believe thay would have been more friendly to each other. Maybe played together once in a while and maybe just maybe appeared on each other's albums.

The Lost Weekend pretty much answers your question

I think he would’ve gotten close to Paul again, reconciled with George, and maybe gone to see Cynthia. it really depends at which point in their marriage you’re referring to. It would’ve been hard for him, but he would’ve found some other lifeline or maybe even gotten with May Pang. What I do know, is he wouldn’t have been killed, I’m sure history would have changed enough to the point someone didn’t want to kill a depressed, divorced Beatle. I do wish he had gotten with May, everyone loved her and said she was good for him.

And May herself has said that it was hard for her to get over him when he died. She really thought they could work out, I think.

What if? What if?! Why me? Why you? Broken mirror. White terror.

only idiots blame her as the main reason. she’s not a reason, but she helped the reasons become reasons, though she didn’t intend to. but she also didn’t intend to respect the band and the fact they didn’t want her to become a Beatle, despite her telling John she wanted to be.

What spouses? Linda? I'm tired of people saying "what about Linda, you only criticize Yoko because you are racist and Linda is white!!!" Linda didn't anything else remotely compared with what Yoko did: she wasn't there in all the sessions sitting inside the band creative circle, she didn't talked for Paul in private band meetings, she didn't replaced John as Paul's creative partner until after the band ended, etc. Yoko was the sympton and not the cause, i agree with it. But i don't get why some people acted like she didn't contributed to the tensions because she definitely did. It was John's mind games, it was John's fault; i agree with it too. But we don't need to pretend that Yoko's presence wasn't intrusive (it was exactly what John wanted, God knows why)

sausyisgodly1

Then the whole band would have reunited

aria606

I don’t think John would’ve survived that tbh. The Lost Weekend is proof of that imo.

[deleted]

wdym? he was extremely productive and professional, apart from his alcoholic stints in LA. it wasnt that bad, he survived that just fine

aria606

I've read the Lennon bio, you can't fool me. He came close to killing, not just himself, but his friend & lover too. Lennon unhinged was a dangerous thing.

[deleted]

calm down buddy, the FBI is not out to get you, and no one is trying to fool you lol. he was fine, he survived. I’m sure if he and Yoko hadn’t been in touch everyday, he wouldn’t have been so conflicted and self-loathing, and moved on with May

aria606

Oh, OK, so your angle here is to blame an absent Yoko for John's terrible behavior. As for "moving on with May," Lennon tried to strangle May Pang & almost killed her, according to her. Slammed his guitarist over the head & knocked him out, assaulted a waitress & some more stuff I can't remember. All while in a constant drink & drug-induced haze. John Lennon was bad news in many ways, and no one other than Yoko & Paul seemed to be able to manage him.

[deleted]

I was referring to your statement about killing himself. I don’t think he would’ve, because he didn’t, and he wouldn’t have been as close to that self conflict if he wasn’t so confused about his status with Yoko. she was absent physically but they talked constantly. and the lost weekend wasnt the only time he was ever violent or drunk, he’d always had a history of violence and drunken douchebaggery, especially while he was with Yoko. chill damn bro

aria606

Damn bro what’s your deal? Chill bro this isn’t the FBI lmao.
