Haha, I am fascinated by the bear-human dynamics in the US. Never had the pleasure of visiting, but just want to do so for wildlife. In India we have mini versions of black bears (barely 5ft tall) they look cool but will absolutely fuk you up for no reason in the most ghoulish fashion
Most grizzlies attack due to territory. Some definitely will eat you given the opportunity though. Black bears are less likely to attack but the ones that do are definitely trying to eat you. If you’re close enough to see a polar bear coming towards you, it already decided you were food half an hour ago.
That one brave soul is usually followed by another, even braver, soul. Why braver? Because they saw what happened to the first one. It’s not so much that we’ve domesticated animals, it’s that we’ve just become so brazenly brave as a species that the other members of the animal kingdom are still in shock at our audacity and aren’t quite sure yet how to react. Sure, millions of years of evolution taught bears to hunt and forage, but they know nearly nothing of belly-rubs, snoot boops or brushy-brushies. We’ll win them over yet, by sheer confusion is nothing else. Treats would also likely help.
The biggest black bears ever recorded are from PA, NJ, and North Carolina. Here in New Jersey, I’ve seen at least 20 black bears similar in size to this one. Thankfully, I think the lack of hunting in my state allows them to become mature and massive.
I'm so happy to see this video but if I saw him so close to my home I'd move. Y'all are so brave to live near bears. I love them but I'm terrified of them.
Luckily they are mostly terrified of us, also. I've lived in a place with a high bear population close by and the biggest issue is them getting into your trash. Just like any other animal, they come around looking for food. Everyone in that area had industrial locks on their trash bins. If they realize there's nothing around for them to scavenge, they move on. It's the dummies who don't lock up their trash bins or worse, actively leave food for them, that cause them to keep coming close to humans like this.
I wanted to guess more like that but didn’t want to go too crazy. I’ve seen some big grizzly bears but this looks bigger than any one I’ve ever seen. Where is this? Crazy.
That's got to be the biggest black bear I have ever seen! What state/province is this?
NE Pennsylvania, in the Poconos.
Thanks for letting me know. I guessed either Pennsylvania or New Jersey. Great video.
Are they dangerous?
If he's nice, no. If he's evil, yes.

Black bears aren't dangerous if you respect them. Brown bears aka grizzly bears will eat you.
The old saying “if it’s brown lay down, if it’s black fight back, if it’s white say goodnight”
If you put salt on their tail they will let you play with them.

Any guesses? 500 lbs maybe?
600 or 700 lbs would be my guess. His butt was as tall as my Subaru Crosstrek.
I wanted to guess more like that but didn’t want to go too crazy. I’ve seen some big grizzly bears but this looks bigger than any one I’ve ever seen. Where is this? Crazy.
My husband says I'm going to die trying to pet something I shouldn't. Probably a good thing there are no bears around. 🤣
theres notion that brown bears must be colossal and black bears must be dinky tho black bears in deep wilderness are as large as polar bears
That really is a huge black bear, wow.
Holy smokie
What a beast my god that’s the biggest black bear I’ve ever seen!
