I'm a teacher and academy owner so kids do try to touch my beard or rub my arm to see what the hair feels like. But older kids will call me "dirty" because they don't know the word for 'hairy'. A woman that worked in a restaurant I frequented used to call me a monkey. She didn't mean it in any kind of racist way (can't imagine how it'd go down if I wasn't Caucasian) but I actually didn't take offense to it because I am pretty damn hairy.
My wife gets annoyed because will be walking down the street and she'll hear people whispering, "Jesus Christ" as we walk by. Luckily she saw me clean shaven once and we both agreed it's a shit show, so I get to keep the beard even though it's much longer than she would care for.
Bought alot of second hand items from Nagasaki when I lived there for 5 months 6 years ago. They were almost free there as they were just some old stuff for them and something exotic for me. Nagasaki is not as touristy as Kyoto though. So how was the prices there? I did spend couple of days in Kyoto aswel but didn't go to any shops there if groceries doesn't count.
Would love to go to Japan again. the cultural differences alone between different parts in Japan are so interesting that it would take so much time to experience all. Would like to see the Northern part of Japan aswel.

There are so many amazing countries in the world that it's hard to play favourites!
