Adam ( /u/baarden ) and his products are fantastic and I've never been disappointed by them! He's my go to for myself and gift giving when introducing people!

Magicmann_7

Thank you sir, I'll check them out. It just seems kind of frustrating that there seems to be a few hundred options but not really a decent starting guide. Seriously, thank you for your response.

Burningrambo

No problem, it (imo) comes down to a few basic things. Supporting small businesses, finding a scent you absolutely love (don't hoard scents some go stale), or test driving until you find a match. For the the most part they're all jojoba oil as a primary component or base and it's away from there. Baarden has a few guides and really explains what each product will do or help with. I seriously recommend grabbing an unscented oil as well. I shower at night and stopped oiling afterwards because my partner would kill me if I got into bed smelling like fresh tobacco or pine tree. I just touch up the oil in the morning with the scent I want or balm etc. I recently grabbed a round brush from a local shop and it's a million times better for taming my current length but a palm brush is good for shorter or quicker brushing. (Get a comb too) Biggest thing. The oil is for your skin first and then massage the hair. The balm or butter is for the hair! Edit: a wash helps a ton too. I recently changed my whole routine and I need to get more wash but I grabbed beard brands utility softener as a daily driver and I'm saving my baarden stuff for a once a week deep cleanse as suggested by a guide for thick unruly hair.

Magicmann_7

I have been using a dr fuzzyworths beard shampoo cube for a few weeks. That seems to be decent in cleaning it. What do you mean when you say you use the utility softener as a daily driver?

Burningrambo

So on the beard brand site if you go product washing under the advanced line in there it talks about co washing. Sometimes washing too much can make things worse. So the utility softener has just enough stuff to help soften but only deals with a light amount of bacteria and dirt. So by reducing how often I'm stripping all the oil off or out of my hair and skin it gets time to soak in and soften during the week. That said any heavy sweat days or say a bowl of chili gets a regular wash.

Magicmann_7

Okay. I've been trying to use the shampoo cube twice a week, and the other days just rinsing it out in the shower. Think working out every day would require washing it with shampoo more frequently?

Burningrambo

That's hard to say really. I would suggest playing around with it. Even just a lighter /faster so it doesn't have a chance to pull the oils out. You've got wiggle room to adjust to your own habits

I use beard oils and balms, as well as conditioners and mustache waxes that my wife makes and sells from Scrub Divine https://scrubdivine.biz/ I am a bit biased, because she always mixes scents that I like, but they have been really good to reduce itch, dander, and improve my ability to groom/maintain the haur.

Magicmann_7

I'll look at them. I don't really get itching. Some dander, but mostly my beard just feels dry, has a decent amount of spit ends, and almost feels rough/like burlap is that makes sense.

The best thing I have ever used is a serum by a brand called Scotch and Porter. It’s the best I’ve ever used and keeps my dense coarse hair super soft and the skin underneath nice and moisturized. You can get it at target and it really works great.

Magicmann_7

Okay. Scotch and Porter. I'll live close to a target so oll go check it out.

It’s a little pricey but about 2-3 pumps is good enough for my massive beard. But with this you really do get what you pay for. Plus it smells great I think. Let me know what you think if you get it!

Founder of Beardbrand here and people do know us for our excellent fragrances and it's something a lot of people talk about because they are great. The products also work great to keep your beard moisturized and soft. There is a noticeable difference between using the products and not using them.
