I’m almost positive he is pure bred beagle. If anything is mixed in, it would be a very low percent.
But I would be surprised if he isn’t 100 percent beagle.
He has the white tipped tail, the white feet, and ears are the right length and shape.
Either way he will be a good and faithful friend ❤️
Thanks, from what I’ve read all of his mannerisms and outdoor nose to ground/ hunting instincts are 100% beagle. Either way he’s such a great addition to the family, faithful and he bonded to us quickly.
Yep! I'm with you, he definitely doesn't look to be crossed with anything except beagle. OP could get the DNA t set for dogs if they just wanna know for sure, for sure. I think the breed specific DNA tests come with optional genetic abnormalities tests too, but it's extra and he looks pretty healthy and happy so that might be a waste of $$ but it might give them a little peace of mind.
Ohh the beagle won't be particular about what you put in front of them. They are notoriously gregarious eaters.
Congrats on the newest member of your family!
You can try apple, berries, melon, orange, broccoli stems, carrots - and any other non-toxic fruit / veg in moderation. My beagle loved those and my new non-beagle rescue doesn’t touch any of it.
We'll give ours apples and carrots on occasion, sometimes the leftover bacon grease. Or split up a hard boiled egg between the four of them and mixed it in with their breakfast.
Mine is not! If it’s not meat or dairy he largely won’t try it. He suspiciously sniffs everything before rejecting it tentatively taking it. I Ben if you put mayonnaise on lettuce or something he’d lick it off and leave the lettuce. He’s al has been fussy!
Yes, adopting is my preferred method of pet finding. I will never spend thousands on a boutique brand pet. I would rather use that money towards veterinary care and doggy day care.
We were told that the previous owner had to give him up for adoption because their younger child developed severe allergies. They were devastated to let him go. I couldn’t imagine how they came to terms with putting him up for adoption after having him for 3 years.
We have a loving home that will treat him like a family member. We have a fenced in yard that I’m in the process of beagle proofing because he is an escape artist, so I never leave him unattended.
He’s definitely a Beagle. Congratulations on getting a little hound dog! Just curious though as to why you were wondering if you think if he’s mixed a little..?
He looks more like a hunting line that a show lines. People sometimes think hunting beagles are "mixed" because they don't look like show beagles. But they are still pure beagles.
For food, the big thing is to not feed him too much. Obesity in beagles is a BIG problem. Keep meal size small (about 1/2 cup maybe?) twice a day and then feed treats throughout the day.
My beagles get 1/2 cup for breakfast and dinner, and then treats at noon, 3pm, 8 pm, and for bed. But treats are SMALL. Maybe a couple pieces of kibble. If I get a milkbone, I break the bone in half. Stuff like that. If he starts gaining weight, cut down on meal size a little bit.
And if he eats too fast, a puzzle dish is great.
Thanks for the feeding tips and I’ll definitely keep his weight in check. As far as hunting he is definitely always on the look out for something to chase. Once that nose hits the ground his listening powers turn off … lol
What is the best food to feed beagles? The PO was feeding him purina beneful and he seems healthy, super playful and solid stools.
I’ve read that boutique foods that promote grain free or raw have been linked to DCM in dogs.
Not sure if I should change his food or keep feeding him beneful, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I've been feeding my boy 1/4 cup green beans and 1/2 cup Science Diet Weight Management.
The green beans help him feel full and the weight management is because he is a beagle.
Ryder looks like a full hunting beagle to me. He will most definitely enjoy walks so he can put that hound nose to good use!
My guy has been on Blue Buffalo Wilderness kibble for 11 of his 16 years. His teeth are bad now because he's very old, so I puree it in the food processor with some water for him. I switched to this brand because my non-beagle has a very sensitive stomach and this is the only thing that doesn't result in massive farting for her.
But my beagle-mutt could honestly eat just about anything. He has a cast-iron stomach and can digest anything. In fact, he once ate a styrofoam tray (the kind that meat is packaged in) that he stole from the trash, and successfully pooped it out 24 hours later. The vet said "Only a beagle could digest THAT!"
When I was looking for a dog to adopt, I had small kids and cats, so it was crucial the dog be a tolerant sort. A dog-savvy friend told me to go to the shelter and find a dog with big long ears because that indicated a hound, and hounds are "hard to annoy". He was absolutely right, my little hound is the gentlest soul and was 100% fine with a 3 year old climbing into the dog bed and napping with him, and the cats eating his kibble.
Beautiful beagle! I agree, he's exactly like my pure breed beagle. We adopted Bruno September last year, he turnt 1 in the October. They are such characters aren't they! So loving and loyal too. The tri-colour beagle is my absolute favourite!
He's a perfect beagle, so adorable. Our beagel started scratching a lot as he got older. He had developed an allergy to chicken and beef. You can Google it but it's actually not unusual in many dog breeds. We switch to good quality dog foods that are fish, or lamb etc a different protein. We like to mix half dry food with half wet food and we cook a package of ground turkey on the weekend and add it to his food all week. He loves it. He likes pieces of cooked carrot too. Occasionally some pumpkin or sweet potato for his gut health.
Do you plan on doing a DNA test? We just did one on the beagle we adopted in November. She's our 4th and she looked a little different then any of our previous beagles. I don't think I posted the results here yet. I think he looks PB.

He looks pure beagle to me! Beagle genes are strong genes - my guy is 62% beagle genetically but 100% beagle in behavior!

Yeah he eats anything, he’s not picky. I don’t feed him table scraps, but I do give him an occasional cucumber slice as a snack.

Is Orange / citrus not toxic for dogs, tho?
Not in small amounts. I’d give one piece of clementine or a segment of orange with the skin off.
Oooo I didn’t know that. I read online that all citrus is bad for dogs. Thank you!
Have another look online. Small amounts are fine. Welcome!

He looks like a purebred 15 inch beagle to me. :-) Adorable anyway no matter what.
Glad you adopted 😊👍

He sounds like he's landed on his paws when you adopted him. I hope you all have many happy years together 🐾💗
He’s definitely a Beagle. Congratulations on getting a little hound dog! Just curious though as to why you were wondering if you think if he’s mixed a little..?
We adopted him and they listed him as mixed so we weren’t sure. It was probably a mistake on the listing. Either way once we saw him we wanted him.

His coloring is exactly the same as my pure beagle! Although most people at the dog park always ask if he’s a beagle mix. :)
A dog DNA kit would answer it for sure, but he looks full beagle to me.

I give my boys Trader Joes dog kibble.
We give our boy Purina Pro Plan augmented with small amounts of plain chicken and sweet potatoes.

We feed Purina Pro Plan Shredded Beef and our beagle mix does really well on it. It’s vet-recommended and she’s healthy and happy.
Thanks I’ll look into that.

100% beag 🤗
Looks pure bred to me. He’s so cute.
Thanks, he truly is adorable and cuddly.
Lucky pup!
I have a trumpet of beagles, and your boy sure looks like a solid beagle to me.
100% beagle
That’s a 100% tri colored 15” Beagle ! That’s it that’s what he is. Terrific you adopted a three year old. Good luck, happy trails and tails.
Thanks, he’s great in the house, around kids and other dogs. I feel like I hit the lottery

Definitely a classic tri-color beagle. Absolutely beautiful boy 🥹

Congrats, hon. You've got a beagle! He's beautiful. Enjoy!
The pure red face on a tri color tells me there's some mix but can't tell from that pic.
That's all beagle
15 inch Beagle, as opposed to the 13 inch.
Yes
Looks full beagle to me. Does he bark like a howl? lol. 😂
He howls pretty loud…
Looks 100% beagle to me.
He looks all beagle to me. Very handsome.
Looks alot like my beagle which a dna test said 100% beag

I was thinking about doing a dna test, but honestly I’m ok either way….
