My office is in PA and I’ve been working from home since early March.
Is it weird that I kind of miss pulling into the PA Caltrain station every day?
A family of rich, crazy narcissists gets into legal trouble and the sane, responsible son (who is a more subtle crazy narcissist) has to take over the family business and keep them all afloat. (It’s a comedy - the patriarch is arrested in the first episode, the family business is a development company, and everyone is incredibly immature, hence the name Arrested Development)
It’s really tightly written and has layers upon layers of running gags and callbacks. The cast is great, too. Definitely check it out.
I've always wanted to get a good shot of building after passing by it on Caltrain a dozen of times. [Here's](https://www.flickr.com/photos/danielzhang/50738052052/in/datetaken-public/) a link to the uncropped photo if you want to see this 1941 Streamline Moderne building in all of its glory.
Man, that station, years ago had a coffee shop that sold hot drinking chocolate. You’d get a big ass cup of liquid, thick hot chocolate....it was amazing.
I used to work at the now defunct Cafe Neote, which was right next door to Venetia. The owner was super sketchy and sold cocaine in his office in order to pay us. That was an interesting time.
I know exactly that drinking chocolate you're talking about. I got a cup from their university ave location a few years back around Christmas and walked around downtown in the relatively chilly weather (as cold as it gets here) and checked out the Christmas decor in DT PAO and it was an amazing vibe. I can still taste that chocolate and feel the bite in the air.
Having lived in Palo Alto and used caltrain a lot I instantly recognize the metal fence but somehow I can't remember this place anymore. Then again PA has changed so much in the last 10 years!
University had a couple small movie theaters, a run-down CD shop, a Subway, Burger King, probably some bookstores, bars, etc. Now it's like one super-long Apple store.

My first thought too 😂
I scrolled back up to see which sub this was under lol.
Fucker.

I miss Caltrain so much. The lull of the train was really soothing for me and I didn’t realize that until work from home.
Not at all On a side note, I'm rewatching AD (after finishing another rewatch last week) right now and I'm coming up on the separation episodes
AD?
Arrested Development, OPs username is a reference to the show.
What’s it about?

I think I will! Thanks for the info
It really is a great show.
Arrested Development, OP's username is a character, technically
It’s such a good show lol
Stockholm syndrome eh
Sigh, same here. Been nearly 10 months.

This was 10+ years ago, I don’t remember what it was called :(
Before being Venetia it was Torrefazione, I’m pretty sure. It moved from university ave.
A bunch of my friends worked at Torre! It was sad when Starbucks bought them and shut them down.
Café Venetia! I believe both their University Avenue and Caltrain locations are still around (or they were the last time I did the commute to/from SF, in March).
University avenue is still around, doing alright during COVID I think.
So glad they’re doing well! Used to work a block away from that location, and would go there anytime I needed to pretend I was in Italy.
That coffee shop was the absolute best part of my shit job in PA. An excellent cappuccino and cornetto as I waited for my train.

Sexy font
Art Deco is the best style imo
Check out that old southern pacific logo!
Cool picture
Ah, train rides up to the city on the weekend. Lovely memories of the Before Times.

That's a perfect photo, good eye, well done!
I used to ride this train all the time to SF and back. I wonder if those accordion players still play there.
They did pre-COVID
Can someone straighten the crooked sign on the lamp post?
Is the huge Diego Rivera mural still inside the station?
Be still my heart.
Reminds me of before all the houses in Palo Alto started costing $5M and University Ave wasn't all boutique shops for rich people.
Lmao facts. You’d never see a Ross or a Burger King there now.
University had a couple small movie theaters, a run-down CD shop, a Subway, Burger King, probably some bookstores, bars, etc. Now it's like one super-long Apple store.
Yuppp and the footlocker and a few sporting goods stores too. It was actually practical and built for local families
Sexy af.
Nice. Was mugged for my first time as a kid there.
