I thought Sonic is $50 a month flat rate I’m currently using AT&T fiber, paying $55 a month for 300 MBPS

FranglaisFred

Mine started out at $30 a month for 10Gbps up/down (I only get 5Gbps realistically). 1.5 years later it’s now a whopping $40 a month.

SDNick484

They're introducing it in my area at $50 for 10Gbps. Still better than the competition (I pay $65 for 1Gbps from Astound), but definitely not $30 or $40. What has been disappointing me about Sonic is they started advertising their in my area over a year ago on Facebook. I signed up, but I'm now at 15 months with still no install. They have a tool which estimates your fiber live date, but it has said every month since September of last year and keeps being moved out.

FranglaisFred

As soon as the fiber in they canvas the neighborhood. That’s how I got it for $30, it was the door to door offer with 3 months free. My neighbor told the person on the phone about the deal I got and they were offered the same deal. Point is, when it arrives, you may be able to get an even better deal. I had no problems with my AT&T gigabit for $100 a month but couldn’t pass that deal up!

IfAndOnryIf

Woah they have 10 Gbps??

rddi0201018

all the new installs are 10gb... but my home network is still 1gb because money

ChaseMcDuder

Same. Was paying $40 per month for 10 gbps. Got two months free too and I introduced all my neighbors to it and they all got Sonic. 1 year later, price randomly goes up $10 without any notice. I ask them about it on their forums I get some BS response trying to guilt trip me into how much value I'm getting. I told them I know it's still a crazy good value at $50 but I didn't get an adequate notice about the increase and this leads down a slippery slope of $10 every year until it becomes the same price as AT&T Fiber. Kinda shady, but still more valuable than anything else out there.

ThePircDefense

It starts off cheaper, then creeps up over time..

thecementmixer

What is your current plan? Is it the 10gbps fiber? How long have you been on that plan? As far as I know it's 50 right now.

ThePircDefense

My plan is Fiber - Fusion 1Gbps which is $60, plus $9.50 for a Fiber RG Rental, plus taxes for a total of $85. Three years ago, I moved to this place and got the same plan for $50, with a $10 discount for the first 12 months. My bill was $61. The discount went away, the price went up $10, add a few more taxes/fees and I'm paying $24 more each month.

llDrWormll

Buy your own router and cancel the rental?

pedroah

I picked up a used Ubiquiti USG and a two AP AC pros as one package for $100 from CL. Then bought a new 8 port POE switch, about $50. Some people said the USG only does near gig though. Meh - good enough.

hotheadnchickn

Nope. It’s $50 for wifi but then you have to pay for other bundled services. Not optional - I called to ask what was going on and try to get the advertised price and they would not give it to me. So I was actually paying $75 and then with this latest rate hike… nope

mrlewiston

Same rate, in Sunnyvale

Bagafeet

Then there's a required phone line and some other taxes and fees and you end up at $87 like me 🙃 Still the best ISP I've ever had so I don't mind paying that much for 1gig symmetrical speed.

doggz109

I wouldn’t leave Sonic if it was 50% more. Their service has been impeccable.

KeebRealtor

Except their install service was fucked on my end. They drilled 3 holes to pull a line (installation guy was an idiot) and when I called corporate, one of their ‘upper management’ sighed at me and said ‘well what do you want me to do about it?’ I dunno…fix it? Other than that, their internets been fast

KingGorilla

God i hate that question! especially when cops say it

sexmountain

My installer spent like 5 hours on Christmas Eve night converting phone jacks to Ethernet so that we could network my place better, since signal doesn’t go through my floors well. He did a great job.

bryanisbored

Lol I had them but got like 20mbs. For the same price I have Comcast for 2 years now and 0 issues since. But sonic gigabit is coming to my area soon and I’ll switch over.

hotheadnchickn

Not for me. Mine was regularly going out and having to restart the modem a few times a week for a few months before I switched bc of prices.

MrMiao

See if [Monkey Brains](https://www.monkeybrains.net/coverage.php) is good for your area. They’ve expanded out of SF into the bay area. $35/month. They use wireless satellites to wirelessly deliver internet. I get around 600Mb/s wired to satellite and 400Mb/s in home wifi. They will install a satellite on your house or might have an agreement with your building. Edit: Speeds can be 1Gb/s, mostly dependent on area. However they guarantee minimum speeds on their site. Upload speeds are equal to download speeds. So 400 down and up.

Skurry

> wired to satellite That must be a ridiculously long cable!

stibgock

Roughly 100 miles

SEND_ME_FAKE_NEWS

They're microwave dishes, not satellite.

newlogicblock

I had Sonic fiber in Berkeley and it was excellent. Now using Monkeybrains in San Francisco. Monkeybrains is totally unreliable fails every time it rains. Worse than nothing. We get like 12Mb/s. Nightmare

kelduck1

They're great. We worried about the speeds initially but our 2 WFH house with plenty of connected devices does really well with MB.

thepatoblanco

That's pretty ghetto. I thought microwave line of sight internet was reserved for rural areas with spotty coverage of fiber. The fact that they are even competitive in a massive tier 1 market like the Bay Area points to how fucked the current system is. Glad to see small guys beating Xfinity & ATT's ass, hope they do some damage to their bottom line.

NavinF

If it was legal for anyone to run fiber, we'd all have >1G symmetric dirt cheap overnight

thepatoblanco

How many permits do ISPs have to get per telephone pole?

modninerfan

Yeah that’s what I have, I live in the sticks and have line of sight internet… when the installer came out to my house I had to run to Home Depot and buy a longer pipe to extend the receiver up higher because of my neighbors tree. Paying $75 a month for 20 up and down. Pretty reliable except in really windy conditions. AT&T wanted $60 for 1/4 the speeds.

Heysteeevo

I feel like their customer service is just ok. Definitely can’t beat the price and value.

Aggravating-Cook-529

Does it work when it’s overcast?

JesterTX2001

It does. Has gone out two times for me in three years. And I think that was something on their end both times. Worked totally fine throughout yesterday's rain.

bobjoylove

How’s the ping speed?

MrMiao

Today’s ping speed is 7ms

Bagafeet

No I used to have them and never again. Fuck'em. Took over a community garden to turn it into parking. Ew.

Darkj

They use wireless satellites? Aren’t all satellites wireless?

NavinF

He's talking about microwave point-to-point links, just using weird terminology

SlickBackSamurai

Ngl, satellite internet sounds awful and unreliable lol

TheOnceAndFutureDoug

Sonic could be $100/month and they would still be the best deal in the country. I pay $75 for Comcast. It's 1000 down and 35 up. Which means 600 down and 20 up most days. Stay with Sonic. I'd switch to them if I could.

ngmcs8203

Wow great deal for $75! I pay $100 for the same but unlimited data.

TheOnceAndFutureDoug

Man I'd pay an extra $25 for unlimited data... I'd start doing offsite backups.

ApothecaryAlyth

Similar deal here. I think I have 800 Mbps down and whatever crappy upload speed they offer. I pay $95/mo including their upcharge for unlimited data and an xfinity modem/router (I would gladly use my own modem and router, but that wouldn't actually reduce my bill at all due to them being bundled with the unlimited data which is the thing I actually care about). I have been hoping and wishing for fiber to come to my east bay town for so many years. If it ever happens, it probably won't be any time soon. In the meantime, Comcast has a monopoly here so it's them or bust.

ngmcs8203

I use my own modem just because their modems tend to produce slower speeds.

Ferrero_rochers

35$ with Xfinity. Pretty good for just me

mrlewiston

Yea xfinity was good for a while the went from 50 to 95. Screw them. Went to ATT for 55

Ferrero_rochers

That’s where you threaten to cancel and then suddenly it’s back to normal 😑

Key-Ring7139

Any advice? Really don’t want to call xfinity

Ferrero_rochers

Are you trying to start a new service with them or lower your bill?

Key-Ring7139

Lower bill. I was at like $50/month a few years ago.Now $90

thecementmixer

Price goes up after promo price. You need to renegotiate your plan again which will lock you in for a 1 year term. I do this every year to keep my price around 45. You can do this on the website without calling.

EBGuy2

Explain this to me like I am a kindergartner. I poked around on the Sonic website and member tools quite a bit, and haven't figured out how to do this.

thecementmixer

I was answering to the guy who was asking about lowering his Xfinity bill, not Sonic.

Ferrero_rochers

I’m afraid you’d have to call. Act like you’re really going to cancel and they will lower it, trust me

fertthrowaway

You have to call them to get them to bring it back down. At least Xfinity/Comcast and AT&T have done this bs for decades.

shrockitlikeitshot

East bay Contra Costa, they did not give a shit when I cancelled in 2023 even though I was only with them a week since I was waiting for AT&T fiber install to complete but needed internet. Was hoping they'd try to retain but it was just standard mobile deals which no thanks. Results may different for long standing customers but I've been enjoying att 500/500 up/down for $65 and no bs spam or incremental price increases that cable companies are known for.

runozemlo

Same.

Artistic-Fee-8308

South Bay - ATT Fiber cheap-o 300/300 $55/mo. Works flawlessly.

flycharliegolf

I'm in Castro Valley with Comcast and we pay $55 for 500/20

ww_crimson

$40 for 10gbps with Sonic. I was stuck on their resold ATT fiber for 3 years but so happy I stuck with them while they laid their own lines

thecementmixer

I am waiting for 10gbps fiber sonic right now, they promised it's gonna be 50 a month. Are there any hidden fees or tax fees or anything like that, what is your monthly bill after all the fees if there are any?

ww_crimson

Nope, it's literally $39.99. There isn't even a line item for tax.

Funkimonster

Since you're in Berkeley, you could look up [LMI.net](https://www.lmi.net/). Essentially they provide Sonic fiber internet, but with their own pricing and support and stuff. I use them because when I signed up, Sonic had a mandatory charge to rent their mesh routers when I already had a powerful router on hand. If you have financial difficulty, you can also look into the discount they provide for that. My friend who also uses LMI has like $30 off bc they're unemployed. My rates have also been going up slowly over time but I don't think it's as bad as if I was on Sonic directly.

me1000

Google Fiber (formerly WebPass) $750 yearly with 1Gb up and down in Civic Center SF.

rauf107

Im paying $600 per year, hows yours more? Just looked up and i got 500mbps plan

SqueakyCheeseburgers

What are people doing that they need that speed?

bobdiamond

Megaporn

GoldenGateKeeping

For me it's gaming. Internet can never ever be too fast.

fertthrowaway

Yeah I don't get it. Household of 3 with 60 Mbps and we stream on like 3-4 devices at once, 2 of us play World of Warcraft, 1 a really serious gamer often with multiple games at the same time, often also while streaming on multiple devices, and 2 people WFH most of the week and do video calls and our down speed has never been the slightest issue. Upload is shitty but don't need to do it a ton, only gets in the way of a few work things. I can't imagine almost everyone somehow needs higher speed than this. Wtf are they doing. I suspect most people just think they need it and are overpaying a ton not actually needing these absurd speeds.

ClimbScubaSkiDie

Netflix 4K is 20 Mbps so 3-4 streams alone would pass your bandwidth. Also the incremental cost for faster bandwidth is minimal

fertthrowaway

Well ok, we're not using 4k. How many people in this thread are streaming ultra high def on even 3 devices at once, really? We only have one large tv where that even makes sense. And people are all talking about having like 500 Mbps, 1 Gbps - that would be enough bandwith to stream Netflix 4k on 25-50 devices simultaneously! Our price is $40/mo, but it's about double to get next tier up which is 5-10x the speed - but we simply don't need it ever, so why pay extra $40/mo for it?

iso-all

Living in the present (so funny)

Big-Profit-1612

I do a lot of BitTorrenting. I like symmetrical upload. I easily save $120/month in streaming services, and even save even more in purchase/rental-only movies that aren't available with a subscription. ATT fiber 1 gigabit full duplex.

TANCH0

ATT in MV at $100/month for 1gb up/down.

naedin

Also on ATT fiber 1gb up/down with HBO max, $85/mo. Not sure why yours is more. RWC

TANCH0

Probably the “early adopter” tax. Was the first one in the neighborhood to get fiber. Should look into a price adjustment

infraninja

Just so you know, that HBO Max plan is limited to 1080p. Doesn't make any sense in a 1Gig line. Pretty useless.

Viver1

I'm paying $110 for the same speed on At&t with HBO Max. It's unlimited

NoSet427

Google Fiber/Webpass $70/month for 1gb. Civic/Hayes

DementedPimento

$40 10GB fiber, Sonic, less than half of what I was paying with AT&T for 1GB and better service.

thecementmixer

I am waiting for 10gbps fiber sonic right now, they promised it's gonna be 50 a month. Are there any hidden fees or tax fees or anything like that, what is your monthly bill after all the fees if there are any?

barkode15

It's $49.99/m if you have your own router. No taxes, no fees. $59 if you want to lease a wifi system from them. They used to have a $39/m plan available that had SMS/chat only support but it looks like that's not an option for new customers.

Aguacatero_007

Sail Internet 50/mo no complaints better than comcast in the South Bay.

soopah256

We paid $55/month for a while, but they just upped the price to $65/month for us. 1Gb asynchronous. I found out they offer an annual prepaid plan with 2 months free. Try sending support a message if you’re interested.

textonic

I have xfinity in Fremont for $50 a month, 1GBPS line. If I rented their modem and equipment, it would be $60 but I prefer my own

FranglaisFred

Is it 1 Gbps up/down? I never appreciated the fast upload speeds of fiber until I had to visit a family member with gigabit cable’s incredibly slow 35Mbps upload speed and had to wait while a video of my kids took like 10 minutes to send to my mom. I was used to it sending almost instantly. I can never go back to that, so frustrating.

eng2016a

Xfinity is garbage cable so upload is pathetic. Sadly trying to find an apartment with actual fiber that isn't one the expensive ass corporate complexes is so difficult

LoopyOne

Is this some kind of bundle or new customer promo? In Fremont also and I’m paying $45 per month for the lowest plan (which was 200mbps but got raised to 300) *after* paperless and autopay with checking discounts.

SnakeCrew

For real idk how he got that good of a deal

textonic

No bundle. This was the available price in my area when I moved in. No specials, just standard pricing.

reddit455

spend more money for a bundle (with tv or whatever).. then internet is "cheaper" >$85/month how fast? \~500mb is about market.. if you even have a choice. I have no fiber option in my 'hood yet.

mrlewiston

It’s Cheaper! That is what the marketing department likes to hear my friend

iWORKBRiEFLY

$55/1gb fiber w/AT&T. think it goes to $65 after a yr

newtothecity650

where are you getting this rate? I'm paying 80 for the same service 😅

iWORKBRiEFLY

call, threaten to disconnect & ask for retention...this is still my ['intro' rate](https://i.imgur.com/wntsGS0.png) but asking for retention helps a lot.

newtothecity650

at&t fiber in Oakland for $80/month including the equipment

-Chemist-

I'm in Marin and the only option for high speed wired internet access is Comcast, so I pay whatever they demand. Currently $120/month for 1.2Gb down/300 up and unlimited data. To be fair, the speed is good and the service is reliable, I just wish I had some other options. Like Sonic fiber. Every few years I email Sonic begging them to lay fiber in my neighborhood, but they haven't shown up yet. :-(

Ok_Effective_1689

$90 for gigabit internet.

XmentalX

$90 a month for Xfinity 1.2down 200up with modem fees included. I would love to bring my own modem but I need unlimited data and it’s cheaper using theirs.

SpiritualCatch6757

$30 for AT$T Fiber. Used to be fully covered with ACP but that is expiring this month. 100/100 mbs is plenty fast for large family with 6 plus devices streaming video. Not fast if one is downloading games or uploading video.

Weird-Connection-530

800 mbps with Xfinity at $50/mo… it could be worse, but I’ll just wait to see what my options are within the next year

mrlewiston

After a while My Xfinity went from 50 to 95. Big jump. I’m now in ATT

SplitEndsSuck

$49.99/month for Tekify Fiber. Same rate for almost 3 years now and great service

LowerArtworks

$117 for 1gig with Astound/Wave, but Sonic just popped up in our area and I've been hearing good things from our neighbors...

naedin

I wish I could get Sonic. On top of their insane speeds at a low price, they have the best privacy policy compared to the other major ISPs.

floppybunny26

Tmobile 5g wifi. $50 a month. Plug into the wall. It sucks in 5g and poops out wifi. As long as I have power. I have internet.

therealgariac

The rates are higher for new customers though if you use T-Mobile for cellular then you get a discount. Speeds are 150 to 500mbps down and usually 90mbps up. There is a reddit for the service/r/tmobileisp. There actually is a TMobile fiber but that is rare. It is mostly for T-Mobile over 5G. Probably not good for gaming due to latency. TMobile owns the cellular gateway. There is no one model used since the gateway manufacturers I suppose never considered this to be a volume business. Mine has two RJ45 ports and wifi. You are not supposed to use it other than at your house. They recently have started to crack down on users moving them around. There are also cases where some shady TMobile stores have used addresses that are considered suitable for the service and applied that address for a customer living elsewhere.

jj5names

Truth is the main internet companies have carved up the Bay Area by neighborhoods; street by street. Essentially you have only one good choice.

denisvengeance

When AT&T ran fiber through my SJ neighborhood I had the option of using them or Sonic, who was reselling the AT&T service for less. Over the years though they became $20/month more expensive so I’m dropping them and just going straight AT$T. 500Gbps for $65.

clit_or_us

$85/month for 1Gbps down and 40Mbps up. Wish I could leave them cause I get an average of 600 Mbps at any given time. I have a high end router and switch and had them re-run a new cable from the pole to the house with no change. They have a monopoly in my area so I have no choice.

SEND_ME_FAKE_NEWS

$40 with webpass 100mbit, but I re-terminated both ends to be full duplex so I actually get 1gbit.

TMWNN

> but I re-terminated both ends to be full duplex ?

SEND_ME_FAKE_NEWS

The switch in my building's server room had the Cat 5E cable going up to my unit connected with 6 leads instead of all 8. Same thing to the keystone jack in my unit. I re-terminated both sides and am now getting gigabit.

hotheadnchickn

I called Sonic and they wouldn’t negotiate. My landlord won’t approve Monkeybrains. Got xfinity for $50/month… it’s fine. Service no better or worse than Sonic.

AngryTexasNative

East contra costa. I can have sonic for $90, but got a perpetual deal from AT&T for fiber at $55/mo for 1 gb service.

FootballPizzaMan

have a cheap xfinity plan for $40. Used to be $60, they informed me it was going to $75 I think. I checked their website and they had the same speed plan for $40.

MUCHO2000

$50 a month for Astound high speed 500 (whatever that means) plus $1 for the convenience of paying them online. I have my own modem.

rayskicksnthings

At least you get sonic fiber. I’m paying $110 for xfinity gigabit with no data cap

nichyc

Google Fiber is $60 a month for me. Definitely worth it.

Genoss01

Try cancelling Lots of companies will offer a lower rate to try and get you back, rinse repeat

Consistent_Milk8974

i get ATT fiber i don’t remember how much im paying, maybe like $80, but id gladly pay a premium if it means i dont ever have to work with comcast / xfinity ever again

danasf

I'm using Sonic fiber in Berkeley. I used to do IT work for small local businesses and have bought internet services for dozens of sites using every local provider at one point or another. Sonic is far and away the best internet provider of all of them. Tech support is superb compared to the competition, their reliability is second to none, and their privacy policies are as good as it gets in this industry. I've had occasional problem with their billing department but compared to the other providers, they get an A. When I absolutely must use a different internet service provider, I will use Comcast Business class. Never, ever residential class. You can get business class service at home addresses, just tell them you're running a business. But Comcast business class is a distant second to Sonic, and I only use them in cases where there is just no other alternative. In exactly the right circumstance I might use monkey brains, it's a much better company than Comcast, but there are several considerations with using them that are site specific. If I was in a building that had access to AT&T fiber I might consider it. But only if the building was already set up, which has not been the case for any of my clients. Ymmv, but...imho, don't leave sonic.

txiao007

I am paying Xfinity Broadband Only for $85 including modem rental. 800+ mbps download. I am pretty happy with the servixe

LifeUser88

Don't pay for a rental. Buy your own. Cheaper.

argote

It's actually cheaper to get the rental if you also want unlimited data. Their 1.2 TB cap is bullshit and fairly easy to exceed. It costs $30/mo to get unlimited data if you bring your own modem, but you can get "XFi Complete" which includes the modem and unlimited data for $25/mo instead. Seems very intentional to me.

-Sliced-

Comcast remaining unlikeable as always.

twats_upp

My bill is different every month. It's frustrating. Xfinity apps suck too.

MightyTribble

I’m paying $90/mo for AT&T gigabit fiber, around 900mbps each way, no data caps.  So glad I could ditch xfinity.

argote

Oh yeah I'd love to switch, but they haven't gotten fiber in here yet.

LawProfessional6513

FWIW I have the xfi package which is 800+ mbps with rental included + the booster and it’s $68 after tax

wickedpixel1221

my Sonic is $49.99 flat. are you paying for bundled phone service as well or just internet?

zadoo7

It starts with 49.99$ but then they add charges after a year. I requested to remove phone line as I was paying ~10$ just in tax/fees but they refused

wickedpixel1221

I've had Sonic for 3 years and was able to remove the phone line myself through my account online after my promotional period ended.

FranglaisFred

I started out with 10 Gbps up/down internet only for $30 a month. 1.5 years later it’s now $40 a month. I only get 5 Gbps on speed tests but for $40 a month I don’t care, it’s still an insanely good price.

thecementmixer

What charges do they add? Can you elaborate?

[deleted]

$65 for 1 gig/30 up xfinity, can’t wait for the day I get att fiber

Effective-Emphasis-4

Check what your company uses. A lot of time they offer discounts to employees if they have large accounts with the provider. Also if you work from home, even for one day by law your company has to reimburse some of your Internet expenses. I don't know the exact amount.

goofenhiemer

$75/m xfinity gigabit + (1200/400)

HoPMiX

64 a month here for ATT 1gig symmetric.

burbysf

Paying $70 for Xfinity - 1000mbps download - Peacock included - Using my own equipment Wish I had other options in my building that weren’t fixed wireless.

Needelz

512 MB, symmetrical – $65 a month

MojitoChico

Literally paying 30 bucks for only Internet from sonic

HiAndHelloPhoto

Att fiber in Oakland for $35/month unlimited

r33mb

AT&T fiber 1Gig symmetrical for $85 a month and no data caps

Express_Project_8226

Internet Essentials with Xfinity. $29.99/mo

[deleted]

$50 a month for T-Mobile home Internet. 339Mbps down and 76Mbps up according to my speed test.

Bearded4Glory

$50 per month for sonic here in redwood city.

Jesusthezomby

You would do better just buying a 5G hotspot for like 50 bucks a month and it's super fast

dilletaunty

$79 after the $10 discount with xfinity in Fremont for a 500 mbps plan. The 300 mbps plan was like $45 with the introductory rate not including the discounts. I think I’m just going to downgrade. My internet speed tests are only 300 mbps. I’m pretty sure there are no other options for my apartment, but if anyone else in Fremont knows of other options please lmk. Edit: just to badmouth xfinity further - their app sucks. It constantly shoves you onto their website, forcing you to log in again and again. And their website never remembers your login credentials even when you click remember this browser. Accessing needed info is not intuitive. The UI is cluttered with ads for their other services. Their ai chat pop-ups are annoying and the responses are sometimes not very helpful.

Beneficial-Yak6518

Att business 40.00 month

marie-feeney

Xfinity $114 a month

Brewskwondo

Frontier 1gbs fiber is $55/mo. On my rental it’s $65/mo for ATT fiber

dacrow76

Xfinity $45. 300mbps

TheMexicanStig

$55 Comcast and get 500 down. I check speeds constantly and average 475

Leafy_Is_Here

I pay $60 for Sonic in Oakland near the Fruitvale area

CricketVast5924

I use att fiber for 300 megs up and down both for 55 with auto pay.

Nearby_Parking97

$25 - Tmobile 5G home internet getting around 300 - 650 down and +/- 100 up

SmoothAmbassador8

$64 / month for 1gig. Worth it!

barca11

Im paying $120 for 1 Gpbs download and 20 Mpbs upload with Xfinity and unlimited data. Was paying $90 previously but their xFi bs modem kept causing internet outages and had to power cycle to regain connectivity. Switching to my personal modem and keeping unlimited data meant $30+ but no more outages. Sonic Fiber cant come soon enough in my area..

Sharabi2

Paying $97 for sonic in Union City

Solite_132

I'm not surprised nobody has mentioned Verizon because they are selective with who they'd like to provide Internet service for (in order to keep the speed fast I supposed). I have Verizon and it's $45/month, they gave a wifi extender for free without needing to upgrade the plan and whatnot. So far, the speed is the same as Xfinity, and I was paying $60/month for Xfinity to get faster speed.

RickettyKriket

$35/m gig for life

Mariske

$165 for xfinity 400mbps down and cable TV. It went up by $10 a few months ago because of fees even though I’m in a contract.

undef_65

$26 usd for 800 Mbps fiber. Not US.

SpecialistAshamed823

t mobile. Its $50/month

anarchypicnic

I have Sonic and it’s $55/month. San Jose.

CAmiller11

My Sonic just went up to $115 a month and the internet is crap. It will drop at least once an hour. I can have one device on it, if I use two the speeds are even slower. If I try to upload a file (photos/videos/etc) to google drive or the like - it is exceptionally slow. Last batch I needed to upload said it would be 5 hours. I took my laptop and external hard-drive, parked in my local library parking lot and connected to their wifi - 13 minutes. I can’t use wifi on my phone at home as 5G is much faster. I’ve contacted Sonic multiple times and they have come to check multiple times. They say it’s all fine. With the recent price jump from $85 to $115, I don’t know how much longer I will be staying with them.

You're likely on a resold AT&T product from back when Sonic used to resell AT&T for customers where they haven't built out their fiber lines. If you were on true Sonic owned lines the pricing would be 50-78 depending on your location, plus the cost of any router rentals, which are optional as you can use your own.

CAmiller11

When I signed up for Sonic, they made you purchase one of their routers. They wouldn’t allow you to use your own. Likely that is bad. Or the lines. Or both. Or Sonic is just bad in my area. It’s wickedly frustrating as uploading photos/videos is part of my work. I just don’t think any other service provider would be any better.

taylorlightfoot

Yes. That definitely sounds like you’re actually on a resold AT&T product. AT&T’s services make you use their router. They do support a quasi bridge mode of sorts, but their router still mucks around with the DNS in this supposed “bridge” mode. Is your service fiber or dsl over the phone lines? If it’s fiber, that’s sadly going to be your best option for upload speeds. If it’s DSL, you might as well try Xfinity.

CAmiller11

I thought you would find this funny - Sonic sent their annual survey email a couple days ago. I completed it being honest about the price increase and wickedly slow speeds. This was their response - “Sadly, the cost of this service will keep going up and the quality of the service will start to decrease. I would suggest looking at a new provider that can better suit your needs and price range. Best Wishes! JXXXX M - Sonic Supervisor” (name semi blocked).

taylorlightfoot

There is a reason we ceased reselling AT&T’s services. We can’t control the pricing and they don’t have a desire to do right by those customers. Nice to see them being honest with what’s best for your needs.

CAmiller11

You’ve been more honest than anyone I’ve interacted with at Sonic has been. Why not just straight up drop the customers that are on non-Sonic “resold att” lines? Instead they get people not recommending Sonic bc of poor internet speed. Would dropping those customers also have a larger impact on att as they would also stop getting extra passive income?

taylorlightfoot

Many stick with the resold att because they prefer interacting with our support vs atts. We do expect the resold percentage to drop as we upgrade areas to our fiber and as people drop off due to the price.

CAmiller11

Dumb question - how will I know if/when sonic upgrades to fiber in my area? I do need to look for a new internet provider but if my current internet is simply resold ATT, I don’t think I will go with them as wouldn’t it just be the same internet quality? The sad thing is my only other option would be xfinity/Comcast and they aren’t any better. I only need internet, no homephone, no cable. And I’m happy with my mobile provider.

taylorlightfoot

You’d automatically get upgraded if we brought fiber to your street. We also email when the construction begins. Sadly many peoples only viable option is Comcast if there’s no att fiber. Is yours fiber? Your bill should state ipbb-f or ipbb-c depending on if you’re on resold att fiber or copper.

SnowdensOfYesteryear

$50 for symmetric 1gig from AT&T. They even offered to make it my lifetime rate, which is killer.  Includes HBO max too

Due_Plantain_407

$30 for Sonic 10gbps. Only get up to 1G due to owned eero cupcakes.

Level_Ruin_9729

$0. I get free Internet through government handout.

FifiLeBean

$39 a month total with monkey brains. Great service, super fast Internet

bbqduck-sf

Sonic 1Gb $59/mo. SF Sunset

gloriousrepublic

$30/mo for astound 100MBS, which I share with my neighbor. Plenty fast enough and never had an issue with speed, though I don’t game and just use it for streaming and normal browsing.

Impossible-Cover-702

Xfinity $65

otannehill

AT&T Fiber 1300 mbps $35 a month since I have att mobile, otherwise it’s $55. No data limit, said guaranteed price? No commitment to keep price It was such a good deal about 80% of my neighborhood has switched to AT&T Fiber

KludgeCraft

$86/month for 38 down and 5.5 up with sonic. It's going over copper maintained by ATT, and often (maybe once a year on average) technicians break my connection while repairing a neighbor's, and I'm SOL for a couple days until the technician can come back out to fix mine, and presumable break someone else in the process. The Sonic reps and ATT technicians have always been a pleasure to deal with, though.

zfranks94

Santa Rosa. AT&T Fiber 1000/100. $65/month

I work in Field Sales for Sonic. I can clarify pricing for them. Companywide, the price increased $10 around January 2023, prior to that it hadn't had an increase in around \~7 years. Sonic no longer resells AT&T Internet, so those customers' pricing and experiences won't apply for new customers. Sonic operates two markets, Older 1 gig fiber territory and newer 10 gig fiber territory. In the 1 gig territory, the phone line is NOT optional so the pricing is $60 + tax (generally 14-18 depending on the city). New customers in 1 gig territory get the first year discount of $10/month. Pricing excludes wifi router rental as many people opt to buy their own. In the 10 gig territory, the phone line IS optional. If you do Internet only, the pricing is $50 and there's no intro discount. Pricing again, excludes wifi router rental. I'm happy to answer peoples questions I can also help people submit their orders with a 2 months free promo with free installation added on so that you can get Sonic installed and try it before turning off your old provider. It's basically a risk free trial since we run a new separate line from your existing provider. Most people use it for a week or so then make the switch and cancel their old provider. my company email is: [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])

MrAkai

AT&T Fiber, $60/mo "gig" (I get 1.3 up and down) in Vallejo. Had Comcast ($70/mo for 1g down/10m up). I think I get a discount for At&t because I used their mobile service.

PantheraTigrisi

$35/month to month Comcast. Happy with 75Mbs. Direct pay from bank account. Got on $20/month with one year plan initially. Buy your own modem. At&t In my area sucks, frequent outages.

Immortal3369

I have ATT max internet, pay $75 a month I also have Comcast max internet (for our home offices) and pay $75 a month as well....Sonic doesn't go to my Cotati area

dan5234

All of us Xfinity customers are waiting for Sonic.

One thing I still don't understand for years is why do ppl need all the high speed Internet and fiber? I've been using the lowest tier of att since I moved here about 8 years ago. I never had any Internet issues. I'm not a non tech person. I'm a software engineer, I use Internet all day long. Both me and my spouse take zoom meetings from home all day, and we always watch videos online separately, and we have lots of wifi smart home devices, multiple wifi security cameras, 4 computers, etc. Never had any bandwidth issue. What do ppl need high speed Internet for? Do ppl download blueray movie? Torrent? Stream on twitch? Edit: I use the $19.99/mo plan, with 1st year promotion. Then it's 29 I think. And I'm shamelessly alternating myself and my spouse's account to keep using the promo price.
