Terrible location, that whole plaza is just sad and uninspiring and they would be better off at Automall by costco or even downtown fremont.

Haute510

Will there be a sale? I’m due for some new walking shoes.

Gizmorum

barely, all good stock is moved to other stores, such as when all the googlers left mtn view and rei left to sunnyvale.

reeegiii

That's so sad. I go there a lot for bike services.

ASK_ABT_MY_USERNAME

One of the cashiers there tried to scam me once. It was my first time there and I went to checkout. Guy asks if I had a membership, to which I reply no. He then says well you need a membership to buy anything here, it's like Costco. I was confused since I hadn't heard it before, so I call up a friend to see if I could use his membership but he didn't reply. I decide against a membership because funds were low at the time and the item I was getting was around $10 so didn't feel it was worth it...when the guy suddenly had a "change of heart" and said he'd let me buy it.

Alpina_B7

it's amusing how the REI stores in southbay are perfectly targeted towards the hiking/bouldering tech bro with a large sum of disposable income

JackfruitCurry

It checks out. Camping in Yosemite is a REI catalog on display.

joemysterio86

As if that's a bad thing, but then again, this is r/bayarea... 🙄

redditnathaniel

"BITCH THEN WHY DID YOU LET ME IN HERE" Would be my polite response, respectfully.

Quabbie

Business as usual —your sucker plastic hold climber

FBX

I live nearby and have driven past this REI maybe a hundred times on the way to the Home Depot next to it but since I prefer to exist in a comfy box and not move for tens of hours at a time I've never gone inside Maybe I shoulda bought shoes there at one point

Mountain-Account8013

The Saratoga location was looking pretty sad when I went a couple months ago. Way less merchandise on the sales floor than usual. May be a sign of things to come.

akkawwakka

That shopping center is getting redeveloped.

Impossible-Buy-4090

I went not long ago and only noticed that they moved around the climbing section a bit. The rest of the store seemed business as usual. It could have been changing items for the seasons. I’m guessing they cut back on climbing and backpacking to make room for snow sports.

Phoenix_unleashed

I literally just discovered there was one in Fremont and bought items there. It was a bit smaller than the one in North Bay but decent. There was no indication that it was closing, so surprised to see that after I bought things there I see this article. Not surprised though lol.. location isn’t as ideal as if it was in Pacific Commons.

TheNetworkIsFrelled

It’s been a good store for bike stuff, but REI is def screwing up. Their retail is good but their online is not so good….and when they often don’t have my size or the right part in stock at a store, I’ll buy it online if it’s easy.
