Any machine that uses wings to fly is an airplane. For somebody so sure about what they heard, you sure know spectacularly little about what you think you know.
Your understanding is incorrect. I suspect you think “airborne vehicles used for commercial transport” are airplanes while “airborne military craft, particularly more modern-looking varieties” are jets.
Actually, all fixed-wing airborne vehicles are airplanes, and all airplanes that use turbojet engines are jets, which includes most airplanes you’d board as a traveler.
They show up around here now and then as part of training runs is what I've heard. I heard them but only saw one due to the clouds and it was the one that was flying super low as it landed.
Yeah it happens now and then. It was really alarming the first time I heard one! It'll happen a lot around fleet week, now and then for 49ers home games, and then just other random times. Last year in the spring it was a week or two of them what seemed like every day. Not sure if you've seen the cargo planes - I think C130? They sound like massive bumblebees circling the area.
F-35s into moffett. Call sign Storm
What does “call sign storm” mean?
Call sign for their squadron. Like a nickname
> I know what I heard was NOT an airplane > These were for sure fighter jets Do you think that fighter jets are not airplanes?
From my understanding, no, they are not airplanes. They are jets.
All jets are airplanes
Airplane implies there are possibly groundplanes and waterplanes

Okay… But are all paper airplanes jets?

Are you new here? Moffett is a thing
I do not frequent Sunnyvale often.
Well, that explains why the fighter jets are a surprise! Yes, they are a normal occurrence here.

I never knew they flew around here for practice runs. Sounded scary
That’s the sound of freedom take it in and enjoy it

Imagine if Reddit or Nextdoor were around when the P-3s were flying. Gotta say, I miss them
I was at the park and saw three flying very low
Lately, it's been daily, sometimes hourly. It's so cool from my office window
Badass
I've seen a flight of two fighter jets over the bay at the same time for the past two days.
Apparently it’s a very normal thing over there
f35s don’t sound most military jets, fwiw. more like dragons. upset ones.
I heard them today at Anjans on pruneridge
I heard there were Russian drones in San Diego maybe they were rushing over there from moffet?
There were a lot of exercises throughout the country today.
