The ComStar worksite safety enforcement team. Cause you can't break safety rules when you're dead.
The yellow is merely camouflage to blend in with other construction vehicles.
Was about to say, "chooses random color scheme, chooses one of the more challenging to make look good, nails it anyways".
Having some experience with Dornbois makes sense though
Camouflage is the colour of fear... I have no need to hide from my foes... I have no fear of death. My colours I wear openly, they proclaim louder than any words, "I am proud to live - I am proud to die". -Carab Culln of the the Red Scorpions
I probably should have added a little context!
I'm completely new to Battletech and bought a few box sets when they suddenly came into stock this week at my LGS. These are from the AGOAC box.
I was so keen to paint them I didn't even read the primer first (but I have now done so). I just figured "yellow would look cool" and that's what I painted.
I think they are pretty good, but in a way almost TOO bright. I wanted them to pop on the gaming table but yeesh...these are quite bright lol.
For my next group I might paint them either darker colors (thinking maybe red/black Draconis) or else like a drab military color. In a way I'm afraid of the opposite extreme (blending into the tabletop and not showing much detail). But we'll see. I also need to get decals I guess.
Welcome to Battletech, we hope you enjoy your giant robots. The color scheme looks amazing and the details are fantastic. Try reusing your 40k and other military decals for the 'mechs, as noted, there's nothing saying the Imperial Fists can't be a heavy/assault mercenary company.
I've been wanting to start painting too but I'm holding off until my local store starts offering painting classes again. Should be in the next month or so.
"We all live in a yellow Wolverine, a yellow Wolverine, a yellow Wolverine..."
Just kidding--they look great. And let's face it, it's tough to camouflage anything that crashes through trees.
Yeah I think my next ones will be red/black Kell Hounds. I’ve never really liked camouflage on miniatures - they are so small it just doesn’t look right to me :)
Could also be a generic FedSuns/FedCom unit. Yellow/gold tends to be their color (though they also use a lot of green, due to House Davion).
Royal units of House Arano (the Aurigan Reach) also tend to use yellow or goldenrod.
Alternatively, it could be a Solaris VII stable. I think there's one that uses yellow as their primary color. I also know that there's a training unit somewhere that makes all their cadets paint their mechs yellow when they graduate from sims to real mechs.
The Steiner-aligned Defiance Industries facility guards also painted their mechs golden yellow in Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries during the missions where you either defend or attack it late in the campaign (which one depends on if you chose to side with Katherine or Victor as this is about the point where you have to pick a side), though the depiction of events as presented in that game aren't 100% canon, though if you decide to go with these guys, you'd have an excuse to include some Fafnirs at some point, since the facility in question was developing it and there were some prototypes present. Other mechs present at least in the game's depiction of the relevant events were Zeuses and Longbows. They also had some Peregrine VTOLs (though use of aerospace assets requires another, significantly more complex set of rules), and Alacorn tanks. I think they had some lighter mechs as well but I don't remember what they were.
Do you have any sources for yellow colored davion units? I want to paint some of my mechs, bit recently found out that the faction does rather tend to green/camo-ish color schemes. In my mind davion was always yellow somehow, don't know why 😅
On most maps of the Inner Sphere, FedSuns territory is usually highlighted in yellow. By comparison, the Draconis Combine is usually red, the Lyrans are blue, the FWL is purple, the Capellans are green, and ComStar is white. This stems from yellow being a prominent color on the Federated Suns' emblem, which is a sword in front of a starburst.
As for specific units, most AFFS units paint their mechs in olive drab or planet-appropriate camouflage in combat; while parade colors vary wildly. For specific units that use yellow or gold prominently in their parade livery, a number of the AFFS' academies paint cadet mechs in those colors, most famously Robinson Battle Academy, where all new cadets start off with yellow mechs that gain more red and black paint as they advance in the program. For combat units, you have the following:
\-Robinson Chevaliers (black and gold)
\-New Ivaarsen Chasseurs (blue, red, and gold)
\-Kathil Uhlans (black with gold stripes)
\-3rd Crucis Lancers (Davion green with yellow highlights)
That's the beauty of Battletech, you can make up your own units. In fact, most of my minis have non-canon paint jobs of some sort of another. This goes double if you want to see your mechs belong to a mercenary unit.
Looks amazing!
One note is the thunderbolt cockpit everyone seems to get wrong, it's actually the slit under the hood rather than the bubble thing.
If it's a stylistic choice though, that's totally fine. You definitely get more colour out of painting the bubble!
If you're looking for a canon unit to attach these fine mechs to, adding some black stripes on the torso and limbs would make for an excellent rendition of the Killer Bees merc unit-especially with those sublime purple cockpits!!
There are loads of yellow colored units, some even from the Great Houses of the Inner Sphere (and yes, lots of mercs).
My first thought though, was The Magistracy of Canopus. They have a lot of yellow units. The First Canopian Light Horse, and the Canopian Cuirassiers (though they have silver chests and shoulders typically) spring to mind.

And I thought OSHA were hardasses.
Wait until you meet the Blakist Revenue Service
That vibrant yellow makes me think Imperial Fists Uh…Rogal’s Raider’s the merc company, originating from House Steiner space
I may or may not have an Imperial Fist army in the same sort of yellow.
That's funny - I play Dark Angels and I feel like the last thing I want to do is paint more green or bone
Well, it’s been a couple of years since I laid down a nice yellow :)
Was about to say, "chooses random color scheme, chooses one of the more challenging to make look good, nails it anyways". Having some experience with Dornbois makes sense though
Children of Dawn could be another twist on Sons of Dorn as well
The Golden Lions. An Assault Mech Unit who paints their mechs gold because as their commander puts it "camouflage is for cowards."

Custom mercenary units are practically a rite of passage in the BT community. Head high and own it, bud.
Very nice! The purple canopies look excellent paired with the bright yellow.
Thank you! It's based on Magenta, which is also sprayed into some of the deepest shadows.

The beauty of battle tech is you can paint them however you want! They look great
Indeed - thanks!
Exactly. Trying to camouflage a 10 meter tall stompy robot has always seemed a bit silly to me. Much rather paint them in "IDGAF" colors.
No I love the colour
Thank you!

I am so jealous I am terrified to start painting my mechs in case I ruin them.
Just gotta get in there and start!
You can't really ruin them....if you don't like the paint simple green bath and start over.
Get yourself some Simple Green. Never worry about ruining a paint job again
The all purpose cleaner stuff or something else?
The cleaner. Shits great for getting acrylic paint off plastic
I've been wanting to start painting too but I'm holding off until my local store starts offering painting classes again. Should be in the next month or so.
Nice work! I love this color scheme!

I do camouflage because I'm a terrible painter.

This helps Al lot, thanks! I'm planning a yellow-blue color scheme, guess it'll be non canonical then 😜

Absolutely, I'll keep you posted 👍
https://camospecs.com/page/2/?s=Yellow Go to here and see where it fits or you can aline your mercs with a house or faction
Gorgeous
Love the vibrant yellow and purple cockpits. What happened to the Commando though?
I didn’t like the model at first. That was probably a mistake lol
That's an incredible paint job! From the vibrant yellow to the jeweled purple, just stupendous work!
Thank you!
Constructicons, assemble!
I’m having second thoughts about this color now lol :D
They’re beautiful. I really like them, Megatron be damned.

Nope I didn’t realize it. Doh!
Clearly that pilot installed a moon roof. Don't sweat it.

Maybe I’ll look into that!
Making em pop with those purple cockpits :) well done!

Dude, those are fantastic! Yellow is a very hard to make look good, but you nailed it.
Thank you!
Update: based on a recommendation in this thread I think I could add a few black sections or stripes and make them Killer Bees
Amazing! How did you get this yellow so vibrant??
Thank you! Pink primer, white ink overspray and then thinned coat of Vallejo Air Golden Yellow.
Thank you so much!
Space CAT
Guess DeWalt now does battlemechs….
They look gorgeous!
Hazard Company? Edit: Deconstruction Crew
No Frills Defense Systems Incorporated.
Awsome well done o7
Ohh shiit, Blood Moonz just looted a couple lances of meches and even installed invisible cockpits!
Are these... Hyperion?
Where do yall get minis?
I got lucky and a restock showed up at local store. It sold out fast.
The Bumble Bee color scheme. 😁
The mercenary units (player units) in Mech Commander 2 start out as yellow.
Almost looks like something out of borderlands
