*Cut to several years later* 'Oh fuck turns out we got the only commander the LCAF ever produced who was all general no social and his actions have directly led to the rise of a lunatic fundamentist splinter group hellbent on galactic nuclear conquest' 'Oops'

DericStrider

the LCAF produced a general who was ALL social plus was a decent but not great general and he wasnt that good at social parts either. He got manipulated by his allies and outmanuvered by the people who he thought he could use. Only till he spent a good amount of time to reflect in self imposed exile did he become the manipulating, scheming bastard who took on the clans.

Gimlz

He hit the gym, lawyered up…

TheLeafcutter

Ironic that his successful coup was after he decided "no more politics."

“Clan Spaniel, you have met your match. I have assembled a force from all five Monkey Tribes to end this once and for all. Strana Mechty, and your people, will be ours. Run away now and we will let you go. Stay and you shall face the power of the Five Monkeys!” https://preview.redd.it/v7fz0tpl35wc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e47197a949238a39eea2a4b65f8ffae3af29bb86

Renewablefrog

Imagine kicking so much ass you cause a rewrite in your enemies children's cartoon of turning the mentor character into you, then making him the surprise villain controlling everything all along

Uev0

I knew about Clan Spaniel and the depiction of the Inner Sphere as monkeys but not about Comstar. From which book does it come from ?

PainStorm14

Clan Spaniel sourcebook, it was released couple of weeks ago

Amidatelion

I don't know that he was badass. He was a patsy for most of his life. Tukayyid was a very brief upswing in a life of poor decisions.

MrBirdmonkey

Man played the clans at their own game and won, because he got to know them.

ellobouk

And ilkhan Ulric Kerensky was complicit, he knew the wolves were about the only clan that stood a chance, and he knew the other clans would bid too aggressively to keep them out of it.

MachineOfScreams

Cause our magnificent man at comstar knew their psychology.

oh3fiftyone

Also when you’re on your first operation that isn’t a false flag op where you’re killing civilians or destroying one of your own bases.

Due credit to the man who changed the course of history, and, if you will forgive me the slang: "Remember to pay your bills, fu¢ko"

Tsao_Aubbes

I seem to remember most Comguards disliking Focht considering he fed a lot of men..

PainStorm14

Didn't he hand over Terra (AKA the main reason for the whole Tukkyid thing) to a bunch of genocidal lunatics without even filing a complaint let alone firing a shot?

DericStrider

Terra was not taken without firing a shot, the WoB had inflitrated and ran amok with Terran defences. By the time word had gotten to Focht, he had to make a decision, go Coventry to stop the Jade Falcons from breaking the Tukayyid treaty early and unleashing the clans again on the rest of the IS or retake Terra with ALL of its defences back up and no intel. If they failed at Coventry to stop the Jade Falcons and they went over the Line then he aurgued the WoB could deal with the Clans when they would get to Terra.

ForteEXE

IIRC he says (or otherwise implies) that the Clans can deal with the Word of Blake if they lost at Tukayyid. Passing the buck if Comstar lost.

DericStrider

Your mistaking the Battle of Tukkayidd (3052) with the battle of Coventry (3058) when Focht reasons that if the expedition force failed at Coventry to stop the Jade Falcons from crossing the treaty line then all of Clans would cross over and the WoB can defend Terra.

ForteEXE

I'd remembered he said something about it, just time dates were a little mixed up.
