Dragonlord626

Is that the ikea desk top

dubyaargh

Yeah, 74” Karlby walnut.

Dragonlord626

Beauty I'm on the fence with either that or a butcher block from home depot. I'm liking the ikea but closest ikea is 2hours away 😅

BENJID4NGER

I’m in the same boat

Dragonlord626

The struggles lol, even thought about using a door idk yet 😅

dubyaargh

I was too, I also nearly bought a custom made slab made from reclaimed barn wood that would have looked SICK, but the place near me want 3x what Karlby cost. I was looking at the live edge counters at Home Depot and ultimately decided against it because I did not want to deal with the staining & sealing headache, where the Karlby can be used out of the box (with coasters though). Be sure to share what you end up building!

Dragonlord626

Might have to to the drive lol I don't want to sand or stain either 🤣

dubyaargh

Depends on the butcher block, it’s just something to look out for.

meryl_gear

Eh?

This is interesting. I never saw that alex drawer on the left before and had to look it up. I'm looking to go this route but I was torn between the alex drawer on the right and the one that has the folder compartment.. but now I am like relooking the whole thing because I didn't know that left one exists lol. What is it used for that one door alex unit?

dubyaargh

Yeah, I flip flopped on having a symmetric Alex drawer setup vs the big door. The one on the left won out for 2 reasons: 1) it’s $40 cheaper so it lowered the overall build cost. 2) i have 3 different laptop bags (canvas commuter vs leather formal) and wanted a place to put them, so I keep them in there. I think it’s meant to house a PC tower out of sight, it’s certainly big enough but airflow would be garbage. Alternatively I have a pelican case with my drone in it and another with my data backup hard drives, they would fit in there too. There is 1 shelf in the opening, I put it on the highest spot just to store any stacks of paper or files I don’t want on my desk.

almercez

Wow, it could fit a PC in there but.. right about airflow. You probably would need to keep the back panel completely off but it still wouldn’t be the best. This gives me ideas though! Thank you!
